They call saying from Canadian Media Pages and say just want to verify renewal and that we have subscribed before.
When we mention can find nothing in our accounting system where we have paid them they say must have been by cerdit card and want the card number.
If you allow them to continue no matter waht you say you get a call back from another person. We said if they can show us any evidence that we have subscribed in the past then of course we will continue.
They then ship you a CD and an invoice. When you return it by registered mail they refuse delivery and then start sending you more invoices. Calls and faxes to them are never returned.
If we get stage two of the treatening collection calls we will just report them to http://www.recol.ca  Canada Economic Crimes Centre.
THis deal sound like other the famous Montreal Manoug brothers have been running. Phone is answered "Corporate Accounts" and is the same number that tried to scam us for photcopier supplies at double the cost and then refused to accept the unsolicited box back.

Canadian Mediapages is a SCAM.  Do not pay them. My story is the same as the others on this page.   I filed a report with the RCMP's economic crime division about them.  They told me "not to pay them", "it won't affect your credit rating" and "the recorded phone call is not legally binding, because they can be edited", which they are.  The recorded phone call is just to scare you.  They also advised me to send a registered letter to Canadian Mediapages.

The scammers info is Jason 1-866-358-3003 Ext 279. I was also contacted by a ladie named Rose.

Do not pay Canadian Mediapages, it is a scam.

I really wonder how people like the folks at Canadian Mediapages look at themselves in the mirror in the morning.  In my opinion it must be tough knowing you're not a productive member of society, that you're simply a leech attempting to suck life from honest people, that you're simply a deadweight drag on society.  That's gotta' be tough on your psyche.  What do you even tell people that you do for a living when you meet at a party?  You either lie to to them, or tell them you are a scammer.  Ugh.  Whatever they make doing it, it wouldn't be enough.

Our company was contacted by this 'outfit' known as Canadian media pages.  They led us to believe they were renewing our yellowpages ad in the local phone book, but later we recieved a registered package with a cd and an invoice for $471.71!  When I called to inquire what it was that we had purchased for $471.71, I was offered a recording of the call recieved earlier!  Still no real explantion of what we had purchased, or why I needed advertising in Montreal, I was then passed on to an agressive collection person who told me that if I did not pay the bill, our account would be passed to a collection agency and our credit would be affected.  I told her good luck with it and discontinued our call!  My partner then phoned them back to ask them what we had purchased again and explained to them that it was a misunderstanding on our part, and we did not want the service, we were then offered a 'settlement offer' of half price and if paid with credit card we would get %10 off our invoice total!  WOW!  What a deal I thought!  That's when I googled them and found this site!  I contacted Phonebusters and filed a complaint about the 'scam' and then informed Canadian Media Pages of my actions, within the hour I recieved a fax from them saying our account had been closed and our amount due was $0.  "Please be advised, it has been our intention to force our products or services upon any customer no matter what the circumstaces"  They also asked that I withdrawl my complaint with the RCMP!  I guess not, don't let them get you, fight back!  Scum of the earth these people!

They called today and told me they had a recording of a telephone converstaion between them and one of our staff advising that we would renew- I have a copy of the invoice- should I contact the RCMP?  Is it legal for them to tape telephone conversations?  Are we now required to make this payment of $471.71?

These people are scam artists. They burned the company that I work for. They call and say they are renewing a subscription and never say that there is a cost until they have recorded your voice saying "yes" to something so that they can prove that you agreed to the charge. Do Not Trust These People!!!

Call from Jason at Canada Mediapages 18663583003 ext 279 - re: Collection of $471.71.
We received the same calls regarding renewing as others on this page. Despite us faxing and calling them saying we did not want this service and that there was a misunderstanding as they replayed the phone conversation to us.   We were just about to pay the bill as we did not want our credit rating affected when I google this site.  Thank you for identifying this a scam.  We will not be paying the bill.

Call from Jason again today, this guy is very good at BSing.  Invoice dated Aug 2008, they still won't give up and will not stop calling.  Our receptionist told him that we know they are scammers and will report them to the better business bureau; he replied "THAT'S FUNNY!! WE ARE A MEMBER OF THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU".  She then told him she doesn't know what to say and he replied "THAT'S BECAUSE YOU KNOW I AM RIGHT".  She just hung up on him.... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!  Anyone got any suggestions of how to make them stop calling?!?!  We are not paying them; I rather donate the money to a charity than give it to a scammer!!

How I got rid of them - I pretty much went on a huge rant about them being scammers, told the person that the recording was obviously falsified, and even if it WASN'T the person in question on the recording had no authorization or power to subscribe to them as he was a SALES manager and I am in charge of marketing and I would never pay for their piece of [***] program. I then told them I would be filing with the Federal Trade Commission if necessary because I wanted nothing to do with them. After that statement the person quickly apologized and said they'd put a note in our file that the transaction was not authorized. Then I filed a complaint with the FTC anyways. :)

Thanks for all your stories. Here's a letter I faxed to 1-877-385-5525 list on the "Invoice" (Fax is good if they reject the registered letter registered letter as long as you keep the fax report showing it was sent OK)

I used the sample letter link posted above, however, added that I have reported them on www.recol.ca and www.phonebusters.com

I received this email through my website about 2 hours later:

This letter is in reference to Invoice # 606362 and you’re being advised to file a report with the RCMP.

Further to “Misrepresentation” as a normal supplier, we have two sections “Renewal “and New Vendor” and assuming whether it was done is the past, has caused the confusion.

Inferior quality of delivery goods, it has been noted that you are not satisfied with the product, as it may be of no benefit, and therefore, you may keep as complementary, instead of spending the money returning it back.

Please be advised, it has been our intention to force our products or services upon any customer no matter what this circumstances, and therefore, the invoice was cancelled in full.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience this has caused, and it has been marked “FILE CLOSED”, and you will receive no further invoices, products or services from Canadian Media Pages.

I would ask you to acknowledge my letter, and request a letter from you stating this matter was resolved, and that no further action now or in future will be taken with the RCMP.

Thank you for understanding and cooperation in the matter.

    Sincerely,

    Customer Relations

Canadian Media Pages, call from "Marlene ext 281" today.   I also faxed them a letter stating to cease their misleading phone calls, no one in our company has authorized, know who they are or has ever dealt with them.  I get these calls from several companies on a weekly basis!  I keep a file folder full of my experiences with these calls.

Hope "Operation Mirage" does something about this!!!  NOTE-> Andrea Rosen, deputy commissioner of competition with the Competition Bureau, left, and Eileen Harrington, deputy director, bureau of consumer protection with the Federal Trade Commission, speak at a press conference in Montreal, Tuesday, June 2, 2009, to launch “Operation Mirage”, a campaign to combat fraudulent telemarketing operations in Montreal. I am dealing with the same thing - I spoke with Helen who played the recorded message of my husband agreeing to the corporate account with Steve, but when I asked to hear the original message where he agreed to the purchase with Theresa she informed me they don't record those calls!  My husband thought he was renewing our yellowpages - I told Helen her companies tactics were disgraceful and that I wasn't paying.  She told me if I gave her a credit card number now she would knock of 10% of the charge. I am glad I decided to google the company.  I have left a message with them stating that I will not pay and that I have contacted the RCMP as well as reported them yet again on RECOL.  In addition I faxed them the packing slip with the same information.  I don't think I will be hearing from them.

Exactly the same as all the others. Got a call from someone "renewing my yellowpages subscription" then the cd in the mail and invoice for 471.00 Then calls from Jason ext 279. saying that they were going to send me to collections if I didn't pay etc. I am glad for all the postings here. I have had calls from other people in the community who have seen my name on their website (my company is first alphabetically) who have called me upset about their experience with these people trying to see if I was a legitimate subscriber or if I was experiencing the same as them.   Do not pay these people. I get a threatening fax every week for several months now.

I also got a call from Canadian Media Pages, i sent them a letter with the statement "Operation Mirage" at the bottom and advising them that our company lawyer has received a copy of this letter.  Never heard from them again.  I'm sure i will in a few months time, but they i know their deceiving practises!

p.s. - Operation Mirage - read about it. An initiative started by Canadian Government on fraudulent solicitors!

Same old story here. They called our offices followed the Auto Attendant to someone they though would be able to authorize the purchase. The poor guy was here less than a year and they told him it was authrorized by the President himself and we allways took the "cd". I received the cd and knew what happened and have remided all staff to simply refere them to the purchaseing officer or hang up if the caller gets pushy.

I called them with no success, returned the package (it was refused) and now I have sent a letter refusing the goods. My last act has been to contact Phone Busters/RCMP.

My note on the invoice as faxed to them is clear "WE WILL NEVER PAY THIS INVOICE!!".

So much for the "do not call list" I hope they get busted soon and rot in jail (wishful thinking I know).

its amazing what you find if you READ info provided on these sites
this scam is covered right here on 800notes!!!!

16 Ways you can be phone scammed.
    https://800notes.com/articles/Article.aspx/LFRVNXyqwQBNrAjLF8wQyg

Since I took the time to read this article - when I received the same calls for Yellowpages, Toner, and the slamming listed in the article - I already knew they were all scams!

Funny thing about the slamming issue a woman called offering telecom services like vmail. The idiot had no idea she was calling a telecom company - I told her I knew all about the SCAM and was not falling for it. - She hung up before I could tell her she called a telecom company!   We manufacture and sell vmail systems - so have no need for a third party service.
