- HBI got a call yesterday, stating that some suspicious online purchases had been attempted on my card, and that they wanted to verify them. I told them that they were not valid, so they cancelled my card right away. They never asked me for any information. When I went to check my card online, the acct had indeed been closed. I called the number on the back of my card after hanging up to confirm, and it was legit. Great work BMO.
- Caller: BMO
- CamI got a call from the same number this morning but I don't have a BMO card so not sure why they (if legit) would call me.
- Brian in North VancouverLike everyone else - This was Master Card security calling. My card had been compromised and they were calling to verify which transactions were mine and which were fraudulent.
- Caller: BMO Mastercard
- Tim in GVRDThis number was confirmed to be legit by the BMO CSR when I called the number on the *back of my credit card*.
But I never had to call them back since I handled everything through that CSR - so really, don't bother worrying if this number is real or not, just call the number on the back of your card and handle everything through there!- Caller: BMO Fraud Investigation and Detection Unit
- DanI have received call from this number and they left a message that my card was cancelled and new issued to exchange because of suspicious transaction. I called to verify with BMO and they confirmed that my card was cancelled because of transaction in "watched" place and as preventive action swipe option of my card was cancelled and I will receive new card. Number 1-866-418-8151 is legit.

- RainThe call did come from BMO. I did not answer but called the number of the back of my card right away. BMO confirmed they had just called me. My credit card had recently been fraudulently used to make two very large purchases totaling over $1100. There is a huge scam operation going on where charges from "Macy's East" appear on people's BMO cards cards. Check your transactions on-line right away and call BMO at the number on the back of your card.

- Jeff100% Legit. Were calling about some suspicious activity on my card, I had tried twice to make a money transfer on Western Union. If they call, ANSWER!!!!
- Caller: BMO Mastercard
- GeorgiaI just received a message to call this number. They identify themselves as BMO Fraud detection. But got suspicious buy the number and types of questions. Much too many for identity.
So I ended the conversation and called the number on the back of the card. No notes, comments or flags on my card account. Long and short of it is they have cancelled mycard and are issuing a new one. Right then.
So beware!- Caller: Supposedly BMO
- By the lake GuyI called the number on the back of card, They confirmed that BMO fraud had called me regarding an internet purchase using 866-418-8151. Best advice call the number on the back of your card to verify..
- Caller: BMO
- Not BMODon't be fooled. This is a clever scam!!!
I called them back. First a recorded voice asked for my credit card number. I didn't enter it and RIGHT AWAY I got an operator (what bank gets you to an operator in less than 3 seconds???...)
When I told them that I don't have any BMO card, they asked if anybody else that I know has a BMO card, _anybody_ (if they can't have my data, anybody else's data is just as good...). I told them no.
Then she went on to say that it's probably an error, but she needs to ask me a few question to find out what is the problem. She asked my name, I say no way, but I can give you the number I was called to.
I gave her the number, but at this point it was clear that I was on the look out for a scam. So she said "OK, this is probably an error and this number probably needs to be removed from our records. Thank you. Bye". Like a legit bank is going to give up so easily... She probably figured that she'd rather waste her time trying to scam somebody less wary than me.- Caller: BMO Mastercard (supposedly)
- Scott in MississaugaJust got a call from this number. Nobody here has a BMO MasterCard.
--> Smell a Scam.
- Number Blocked!- Caller: Unknown
- EmmaI received a call from this number on my cell. I hung up and immediately called the number on the back of my BMO MC. There were no blocks or holds on my credit card and no notes from security. I checked my statement online and none of the recent transactions were unfamiliar. I'm not sure if I would call this a scam since I didn't wait to talk to someone. But, I wouldn't give out any information to people calling you. Always call the company back to check yourself.

- Pal Singh replies to GOOD CALLIts a genuine call from BMO master Card, though it came from unknown caller.
- TI got a call from this number, went through with everything. Then went online to the BMO site and called emergency card # (1-800-361-3361). He verified it was BMO mastercard fraud detection calling and that they will call you if they detect anything suspicious.
THIS IS NOT FAKE! - GMacGot a message from this number a few minutes ago. Was hesitant about entering my card number. So called the number on the back of the card. They verified that the number was legitimate and it turned out my card had been used for 3 purchases today while I was at work before they blocked it. Further purchases were attempted, but the card was declined. They are sending me a new one. I live on Salt Spring Island and assume that the card was compromised at the private liquor store, as my sister's Visa card was compromised when she was visiting and that was the only place she used it. I also had the previous Master Card compromised about a month ago (and had used it at the same place, among others). But there have been a lot of cards compromised over here, and of the people I know with compromised cards, that liquor store appears to be the common denominator.
If you don't trust the 1-866 number, just call the number on the back of your card and they will look after the problem and notify the Fraud Detection Unity. - Bob100% SCAM! Stay away! BMO confirmed this number DOES NOT BELONG TO BMO!
Call 1888-495-8501 and report this call.- Caller: Scam on behalf BMO
- ChrisThis number called and left a voicemail stating that my card had been used fradulently and has been locked. The strange thing is, I haven't had a BMO mastercard in almost 6 years. I called the number provided and spoke with 3 agents, and they were unable to find any record of a card in my name.
Seems legit, but it's possible that this company just has an out of date call record? Either way, I've escalated a message to a BMO manager for further investigation.- Caller: BMO fraud
- Card Fraud Detection Was RealI also got a voicemail from 1-866-418-8151 indicating that some type of fraud was detected and to call them back.
I used the number on the back of my credit card card to call the bank and ask if there was something suspicious and it turned out that YES they thought so and put a block on the card. I cleared it up right away as it was something I was aware of and the card was unblocked in a few minutes.
So the voicemail was legitimate for me but to always be sure and on the safe side call the bank back using the number on the card. If it's real they will redirect you to the right department, if not then no scammer has your information.- Caller: BMO

- Stu M replies to Fraud Department| 2 repliesI called 1-866-418-8151 this afternoon after they had called me about a possible fraudulent use of my Mastercard. I was somewhat suspicious but soon realized that the number is indeed the BoM Mastercard fraud office. Someone had tried to use my Mastercard this morning but the criminal did not have the correct expiration date nor the correct security number on the 'phony' copy of my Mastercard. I am delighted that the BoM Mastercard office called me so promptly.
If you are still concerned about this phone number after receiving a request to call it, simply call the BoM Customer Service phone number that is printed on the back of your Mastercard and you will eventually be connected to the same fraud office. Stu - AnthonyThis number is Legit. they Called and wanted to review some tranactions. I'm Glad they called. Someone tried to scim my Master Card for $1000.00. They are crediting me the money back as well as sending me a new card.
