- R| 1 replyWhether or not its fake or not (we just got it, cant get through to official BMO 800 number yet, 30 minutes wait?), it would be nice of BMO to put an advisory on their website whether or not this phone number is actually them.
And always good advise NEVER to give out information on phone calls made TO YOU. Always call them back on their official phone numbers (via back of your card, or website, or whatever)- Caller: BMO?
- DouglasThis is a legitimate number for the BMO Mastercard fraud department
- Caller: BMO Mastercard
- ShillBuster replies to RThis is a SCAM. Claim its BMO Mastercard calling. They said my Mastercard ending in 9474 may have been compromised and they would be sending me a new one. Uh... I DON'T HAVE A CARD ENDING IN THAT. I went TO BMO, talked to someone there, no blocks or anything on any of my accounts, THEY called MasterCard, who said they did not have anything either, and I am the only customer with that [my] phone number. They did not have 866-418-8151 as a known phone number, and they escalated it. Bank told me to ignore it, and call them back (via number on card) or go see them in person if I am contacted in any way again.
SCAM FRAUD SCAM SCAM SCAM IGNORE! - elisabeth| 1 replyI received a call on the morning of March 29th from a fraud investigations rep for BMO mosaik.
The rep asked me about a number of bizarre/out of place charges on my card that occurred between March 19-29.
I only use this credit card online for booking travel, and educational costs (textbooks/tuition). The card has a chip and I just never got around to remembering the pin, so it's never left my dresser drawer. I don't live with anyone or have visitors so it was not taken from me. I have since cut it up (they are sending me a new one).
I have identity protection software on my computer and never use my card on websites I'm not familiar with.
The rep said my card had over $200 worth of charges on it and listed a few of them for me:
$2.67 for some random charity donation (no... i would not donate to a charity I didn't know, and whenever I do donate to one, I'd donate more than $2.67!)
$60-something on a lavalife subscription
$50+ (in GBP) on a personal website in the U.K.
They sent the file for further investigation (with the Rep saying that perhaps one of the familiar websites I used had their accounts compromised with a security breach).
Like I said, they are sending me a new one, along with the affidavit for me to sign as an official statement in saying these charges are not mine.- Caller: BMO fraud department
- elisabeth replies to elisabethI forgot to add:
The rep did not ask me to confirm my credit card number or address or anything like that. The rep was rattling off charges I had for the past month where he would tell me the exact $$ and I would name the place of purchase to confirm that the charge was mine.
The people on here who are saying this is all fake need to get their facts straight!! - mcIt is a legit number used by BMO. I received a message today informing my card had been compromised, they were sending a new one and limiting my transactions on the current one until the new one was activated. They also provided both BMO's corporate mailing address and main customer service number for me to contact for further information.
Just remember though that scammers can easily fake the caller ID number. Be suspicious of anyone calling on behalf of the bank and asking for personal information. If it is the fraud or security department calling and you're not comfortable with the information they're discussing or requesting, tell them you'll call back on the main customer service number on the card - those reps can connect you with the fraud department directly. They will not have any problems with this if they are legitimately calling.- Caller: BMO
- philno scam, just wanted to check some transactions I did but it's legit.
- RoseTHIS IS FRAUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just spoke to BMO and they do not leave messages like this. There has been no compromising on my cards, and we should NOT call back and definitely NOT enter card info.
BMO is looking into this.- Caller: 1-866-418-8151
- CeeI work for BMO, and this phone number IS LEGITIMATE.
- canDarianNot a scam but with any call use common sense and use the number on the back of the card when inputting your card numbers.
My new cards in the mail due to it being compromised some how. - 866-418-8151A legitimate call from Bank of Montreal Mastercard Fraud Department to adivse that my card has been used by fraudsters for two weeks and would be replaced.
Under call type there should be a category "Legitimate."
GV Dundas, ON April 19/12- Caller: BMO Master Card

- AshleyJust received a call from these guys today. They are completely legitimate. I called them back and they were very professional and told me that they had seen a series of suspicious charges on my account and needed verification. After confirming that someone had been using my card online to make purchases amounting to nearly $700, the informed me that I would not be responsible for these charges, that they would be reissuing my card and filing an affidavit on my behalf. If you receive a message from this number, be sure to call them back quickly!

- pk| 1 replyWell, I received a call with a pre-recorded message this evening and after reviewing most of the comments here I tend to believe that this is a scam of some sort.
If my BMO card were indeed compromised in some fashion I would expect a live call from their fraud department, and I would expect that they would ensure they are talking to the owner of the credit card in question. It could have my cleaning lady or babysitter who answered the call. Surely BMO's fraud department isn't that stupid and just initiate an automated call like this.
They need to also provide the correct last 4 digits of the card in question (which they got wrong in my case tonight).
All those comments about this being a legitimate call could easily be posted by the scammers.
Just to be safe, though, I'll be contacting BMO to get to the bottom of this.- Caller: Suspected Scam
- pk replies to pkOk, here is the scoop, talking to a service rep at 1-800-263-2263, she confirmed:
1) the number is indeed BMO's fraud department
2) the call was placed by BMO
However, the service rep was unable to shed any light onto why the call would have been placed - she found no suspicious transactions or unusaul activity against my card.
I am still troubled by the fact that BMO would opt for an automated call approach. It is ,in my opinion, unprofessional and certainly doesn't make me feel comfortable about the security of my credit card. Time to switch to a VISA card. - h r bushThis was a legit call. They asked if a transaction from earlier in the day was in fact something I had done. It was and I confirmed so.
- Steve D.This is a good BMO number.
Just to be sure, i called the number behind my personal credit card and the guy told me "no problem with this card". I gave him my company master card number and he said YES BMO called you sooner today about a problem with this credit card. They mention 2 activities made yesterday and one was not mine so they cancelled my master card card.
- Mastercard holderI got a call this morning -- it really was BMO Mastercard Anti-Fraud unit, questioning a "suspicious" charge on my credit-card. In this case, it really was me, purchasing an airline ticket from a regional airline in Scandinavia. Good for them, for checking it, and calling me, and protecting my credit-card.
- Caller: BMO Mastercard

- lucas replies to dummyIt's the fraud department of the bank of Mtl which calls you when you make a transaction which is not recognised. Often when it's Western Union internet transactions.
They are checking to prevent fraud, they are not fraud! - fnReceived a call from the number, the message said card # ending with xxxx was activated.
The number they left to call 416.645.2774 and P.O.Box Address, Toronto.
This is fradulent call, confirmed with Mastercard.- Caller: BMO Mastercard
- AllysonI had a call from this number today. Called it back. The guy who answered asked for my mc # and I explained I was uncomfortable giving it to him. So he said to call the phone # on the back of my mc and they could put me in touch with the fraud department.
I did just that and in fact my mastercard did have a hold on it for a suspicious purchase I had made earlier today. So we cleared that up and my card was cleared for use again. If you are ever suspicious always call the # on the back of your card.- Caller: BMO
