That person posted here 10 years ago and will never return to see your post or reply to it.  Obviously it was a post made by one of the scammers.  Commonsense would have told you that.

Probably a scam.  In any case I would not return the call.  Instead call the number(s) on the back of your card(s).

Got a call from this number about 10:30 this morning.  The ID said "Toll Free Call", duh!  No message left.

Years ago I got a robocall from one of my card companies saying they detected unusual activity.  I didn't call the number on my screen; I called the number on my card.  I asked did they call me and they said yes.  They wanted to verify activity that was unusual for me.  It was me, but I'm still glad they are vigilant.

I never answer calls with unfamiliar names or numbers, even if it did have my card company's name.  And I wouldn't call any number on the Caller ID.  It is most likely spoofed.  Never answer emails or texts that are fishy, never click on links in them.  If in doubt, I always contact the sender on the number or email I have, and I say I got this message, was it you.

Too many scams out there and they are getting too smart now.  Being skeptical by nature is a plus with all this going on now.

It was a credit union fraud alert.  I called it back because 1) 866# and 2) the call coincided with my use of a credit union's ATM that refused to let me withdraw funds from my credit union's account.  However, I walked across the street to 7-11 and had no problem withdrawing funds.  On my way back from 7-11, I noticed a guy try both ATMs with apparently the same level of success that I had.  I provided the information (e.g. last 6 of card #, last 4 of ssn, CVC #) and it asked me to confirm my last 10 transactions which included the two attempts to withdraw cash that were labeled as declined and precipitated the call.

Do you often look up known phone numbers when there's no logical reason to do so?

This number called me shortly after I had used a self checkout at Walmart.  My card didn’t work the 1st two times with a card read error.  A Walmart employee helped me and stated that machine had been doing that issue today.  As I was in the parking lot of Walmart I received a call from this number.  I didn’t answer it as didn’t know who it was from.  They left a message stating “from the fraud dept of xxx which is not the name of my financial institution, they referenced the last 4 digits of the card I used.  I called my financial institution to verify if there was an issue.  They said it was a scam and they are not associated with this number.  I called Walmart and they are looking into this fraud call as “that machine” had been having an issue today.  So don’t know if the checkout machine was hacked or Walmart has a bigger issue with the hack.  Look this number on Google and it seems to be a number for a lot of institutions.  They are NOT related to mine so there was no reason for this call except a scam.  I believe they are hackers getting into systems.  I unlock and lock my card for every use.  Was unnerved they did have the last 4 digits of my card, but the Walmart security I spoke to said the last 4 digits are all anyone can see.  Just don’t call them and give them the rest of the numbers.  Be careful and have your financial institution’s number on your phone so you can immediately call them and not get scammed to call this scammer.  Never trust searching internet for phone numbers.
