- CWG40| 2 repliesAbout 100 calls on this thread and I count 52 percent , as shill posts. The shillers basically posting to tell everyone how "legit" this number is.
This number is most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real, is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.
This scam is well documented. Simply google it out. Based on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.
T hese type of calls follow a similar pattern. They all claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions. Or claim to be CC processors. All with the same type of postings. Alll claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made. Or something similar. They all ask for personal or personal financial information.
Just part of the shillers criminal MO.
I've noticed the shill posters often use the same turns of phrase. Same old, same old verbiage telling everyone how "legit" the calls are.
Personally I think the group or groups posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both. They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.
In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you. If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.
Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far. (That I’ve been able to find.)

904-954-7500- Caller: Informational post
- EVHCaller left voicemail saying the wanted to verify some activity. I called my bank using the # on back of my card. It was legit. They transferred me over to the call center that made original call. I had used the card to purchase flights, they were just confirming it wasn't fraud.
- Caller: Card Verification Co
- CindyI contacted my credit union (Golden 1), which they confirmed it is their number to verify my credit union transactions.
- Caller: Card Services
- SusieqI received a call from here and it was legit. I verified with my credit union immediately after the call. Someone had attempted to use my Visa card in Latvia. Card cancelled. New one issued. The company did ask for last 4 digits ssn, birthdate, and address to verify my identity prior to rejecting charge and cancelling card.
- Joe replies to CWG40Anyone who reads this guys post and takes it serious, please disregard it. The number in question (1-866-518-0213) is a third party company called The Members Group (based out of Iowa, look it up), who does fraud detection for hundreds of credit unions/banks in the US and Canada. They already have all of your information, so when you call them back of course they will ask to verify the last 4 of your SSN, CVV2 code on the back of your card, DOB, etc, to make sure you are the actual person on the account they are speaking to. The only reason you would ever receive a call from this number is so they can confirm that the transactions on your debit/credit card are legitimate and not fraud.
- RissThey left a message saying they noticed some unusual activity on my card with Premier America, which is correct. I called my credit union the following morning, told them about the call, and they connected me with their third party fraud protection services. Turns out my debit card was used (physically swiped) in Chicago and Vermont the night they called me, and just wanted to confirm if it was me who used the card. I'm in California and I have my debit card in my possession. Those transactions were declined and flagged. And they canceled my debit card, instructed me to call back my credit union and get a new card. I confirmed with them that their number is 866-518-0213, and their company is called (forgot the name) MTG? KTG.? I know the last initial was a G. So yes, they are legit.

- Riss replies to CWG40I used the word "legit" because they are legitimate. What other words should I use? Real, not fake, not scammers? And no, I don't work for them. I called my credit union and they connected me to this number. This company canceled my card due to fraudulent activities.
- AlanThis was a fraud check from my CC company. There were two charges out of state that were NOT me.
- Caller: Redstone Federal CU
- goldsheet"Card Services" fraud department for my credit union.
I did not provide any information. but called the number on the back of my credit card.
It was a legitimate request regarding attempted fraudulent charges.- Caller: Card Service
- TomThis company is who your bank sub-contracts with to monitor your credit card(s) usage and make notifications when their computers flag your account as to irregular / suspicious purchase activity. I personally would let your phone take the message and call them back, if you are worried about being "scammed", as many are able to spoof this (any) incoming number to your phone. But, your phone will always call the correct number you dial.
- Jennifer KegleyMission fed credit union uses this company to monitor suspicious activity. They have saved me from fraud multiple times. They are legit. If you don't trust them, simply call your bank and have them give you the number to their fraud department. Most are now using this company or one that is similar. Either way, your bank can direct you to the correct number.

- BossFishing scam trying to get personal information. Careful - very dangerous as they present fairly legitimately. But remember if your bank would be calling you they would not need to ask you a ton of questions about your identity as they would already know.
