I have 2 numbers in my phone with "Don't Answer" for almost 2 years now... mind you this was while I was still a minor so I'm fairly certain you're not allowed to do that. Now I have to add this one to the list! I've talked to "managers" before who have promised me they wouldn't call...obvious lies.

I think it's been over 200 times. Ridiculous.

You can file a complaint with the national do not call list, since you are already registered at 888-382-1222.  Hopefully enough people will file complaints so the government will prosecute them and put them out of business!

    I GotEm to Stop!
Like many of you I was getting daily calls from this company for over 7 months. After a month of calls I was able to get to the phone and told the person calling that I was not interested and to take me off their list, all this did was to increase the # of calls I was getting each day! I called the company directly and that did not stop the calls either. Finally by November I had all I could take and contacted the Attorney General for the State of Florida, they in turn after explaining the situation to them referred me to the Office of Financial Regulation. I spoke to a gentleman there who advised me to send Mortgage Investors Corp. a "cease and desist" letter certified mail, return receipt requested, if after 2 weeks the calls continued to file a complaint with their office. MIC signed for the certified mail, but the calls still kept coming everyday even after a month of them receiving the letter. I filed a complaint online with the State of FL Office of Financial Regulation which was very easy to do, you will have to register with them first. After filing the complaint you will be able to upload any supporting documentation such as letters sent and signed cert. mail and you will be given a Complaint Activity #. Within 3 days of filing the complaint I received a letter from the State of FL OFR advising that their office would be looking into the complaint along with the name, phone # and email of the person handling the complaint. Even after filing the complaint with the State of FL I still continued to get calls from MIC, then about 3 weeks ago the calls stopped. Yesterday I received a letter from OFR for the State of Fl advising that the situation has been resolved. Attached to this letter was the response from the legal dept. of MIC, I wish there was a way to upload a copy of this letter as it would truly give you a good laugh, such as they abide by the "Do Not Call" list and that they remove #'s when requested to do so, yeah right! Here is the link to the State of Fl OFR to file a complaint           http://www.flofr.com/Consumer/Complaints.aspx

Got a call from 866-812-6662 tonight (3-5-2012), answered and got no response which is typical of these phone scammers. But from what I have read here this sounds like the company that was constantly sending me documents in the mail to the effect that I, as a inactive veteran, could get an unbelievable rate on buying a home or refinancing one. This stuff was coming several times per month. I finally filed a complaint with the FTC and the BBB in Tampa, Florida. The BBB replied in just a few weeks that the company was sorry and would not send any more information through the mail and would I accept their apology for bothering me. I accepted the offer and have not heard any more from them. Also, a lawyer from the FTC called me a few weeks ago following up on the complaint I filed with them. She said they had received so many complaints about this company that they were looking into possible legal action. At least the government listens sometimes.

The DoNotCall Registry is completely ineffective!! No one persues any offenses/complaints filed there.

Most people don't realize there is a federal Act that protects the people and is called the Telecommunications Consumer Protection Act.

'Telecommunications Consumer Protection Act of 1991 - TCPA'
A U.S. federal law created in response to increased consumer concern and complaints directed at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding the use of telephones for solicitation of business.

You should document that you have requested to be removed from a Company's calling list. Under this Act, each instance that you are contacted by that Company afterwards, can result in a penalty  (up to $500 per call) to be paid to you.

Document that you have requested to be removed.
Document (usually phone records will show), or even record your conversation. -see applicable state laws regarding recording consent.
Obtain an attorney to draw the documents required to notify the Company of your intent to obtain/sue, under the Act.

Typically, I've found most of the company's will settle out of court to save fees, but the ones that decided to fight in court, have lost. I've won every time, mostly out of court, but in court as well. My attorney's fees are paid out of my winnings. Usually all that is needed are:
    1) my documents proving the calls (usually transcripts of the recordings I make of the calls)
    2) a letter from my attorney showing my intent to sue under the Telecommunications Consumer Protection Act.

Step up and fight back! You may find it very rewarding.

I called them back and told them I just had a call from this number, they said they were a service that was helping our "armed services veterans refinance their VA loans."  I told them I wasn't a veteran nor did I have a VA loan, and he asked me my number and took it off his list.  I will see if the calls stop or not.

Got a call from this company and since it was the 2nd time in just a few hours, I decided to answer.
After a brief pause, Daniel comes on the line and asks for me by name. After I confirmed that I was who he asked for, Daniel started into his sell; "Our company, Mortgage Investors Corporation, want to help you lower the cost of your VA loan you got a few years ago."

    I replied that, "I don't have a VA loan."

Daniel was suprisingly polite and apologized for the call and said he would update their records.

    I was shocked!

We'll see if I get any more calls, but from talking to Daniel, it seems that not everyone that works there is a total ass. (perhaps)

Had fun telling them "this call is being recorded for legal purposes." Then they hang up.
One lady didn't and said she doesn't consent, I told her to just hang up then cause my number is all recorded. She hung up. Haven't gotten many calls since.

I have been receiving these phone calls for some time now and am on the do not call list. Verizon is now allowing member to block calls online thru their website. I have placed the 866 number and 727 on the list. Let's see if that gets this nonsense to stop.

Why do you people answer these calls and let them harass you? That is what caller ID is for! Two ways to handle it.

    1) If they are calling your landline get a caller ID box that lets you block numbers. I bought one off eBay years ago that can have 200 numbers blocked. If I don't recognize a number the 1st time they call I DON"T ANSWER! NOT EVER! I look online and if I see people whining about them I block the number. End of problem, they call and my phone never even rings. They get a nice little recorded message telling them I am not accepting their calls.

    2) If they are calling your cell phone...If your cell phone was made anytime this century it has the ability to set profiles so you get a different ringtone for different people or numbers. If someone is calling me and I don't know the number, once again, I DON"T ANSWER, NOT EVER. I then go online to see if everyone is whining about them. If they are I set their number to a special ringtone that I recorded for this type of call. I recorded silence for my ringtone. Yep! Silence. When they call my phone does absolutey nothing. I sits in my pocket and makes no noise whatsoever. Kind of a no brainer.

It is like the bully in school. He bullies you BECAUSE YOU LET HIM!
