I called citi mortgage today and was told via voice message that if you get any information from or contacted by Ranger Fairbanks please do not respond!!!!!!!!.  I believe that when your mortgage company says do not respond, I don't think you should.

I just spoke with citi, THESE R NOT SCAMS.  They r real. They use them when they can't find or get in touch with the lender. They are attempting to locate them because they are behind. Don't listen to these "oh its a scam" because it is not. they will tell you directly they are real.

It is MSPM Inc.509-484-3217. They work for different mortgage companies. They do field services, make photographs, check the height of the lawn,if there is personal property in the house or if the house looks vacant.

But it's real.They check on your house,if you still live there or if it's vacant, the height of the lawn, the value.

It can be a scam in my case, it is because Citi told me to call the police when they come back, GUESS WHAT???? They are frauds! Supposedly they are trying to help people but... she went into my mailbox and addressed herself to my 17 yr. old daughter as a representative from our insurance company and then proceeded to leave the envelope on the door, and told my daughter that we are in default and then left, she keeps coming back!!! we continue to call the police, the problem I have with this is she "knocks" on the door and runs back to her car, I answer, if she were "legit" wouldn't she address me and tell me why she is there??? BE CAREFUL!!!! I am!!!

I with you aunt b!!!!!!  my husband and i both tried at least 7 times to contact citi to work with us before we were even behind on our 1st payment.  The ceo of citi said on msnbc he would work with occupants of homes.  lol..that is a joke.  we called the last time citi and told one of their ppl. and they said they didn't know what we were talking about.  that is their fault.  i called that "Ranger Fairbanks" number and I was given one number after another number.  I just got another one today.  I am not calling this time.  screw them!  they can keep paying their ppl to come out here to make sure it is occupied.  I have better luck talking to their lawyers!

I live in San Diego, California.  I freaked out when I came home this afternoon with this same note hanging on my front door.  I called the phone # and very stupidly gave them my and my husband's social security #'s.  They could not find our records, so then they looked up our address and could not find that on file.  After I hung up, I started worrying it was a scam, so I got on the internet and saw this website.  I called my bank to put a fraud alert on my account, and they told me to call Citi Mortgage's official phone #.  When I called, the person on the line told me that this sounded shady, and he had never heard of this.  So he put me through to someone in customer service, who also had never heard of this happening. So the customer service person asked me for the phone # I called, and did some research.  Turns out it IS one of their phone numbers, and she said not to worry because it WAS a Citi Mortgage phone #.  She also told  me that whoever dropped off the note probably put it on the wrong address.  What a relief!!

CITIMORTGAGE should have on this brown envelope PLEASE CALL CITIMORTGAGE. With the way people run scams, why should anyone just call a random number???? Now granted my loan has fallen behind, but I applied for a modification. I have talked to someone just about every week from Citimortgage.  I was told that I was approved for a "Home Affordable Mortgage" modification 2 months ago and no that I get to my last trial payment, I'm told that the investor on the loan is not participating in the gov't program. This lack of information in the beginning, sure says alot about the Customer Service Reps for CitiMortgage and the companies  tactics.

I had someone deliver this to my sons today while I was at work. I will concede that I am behind on my Citimortgage account, but I have been in contact with them weekly and been approved a permanent loan modification under the Home Affordable Mortgage Plan (the "Obama" plan) for which I just sent my final paperwork in via UPS overnight air this past Monday and my modification is permanent as of 9/1, it's a DONE DEAL. I just spoke with them Monday morning and they knew I had sent the papers in, and I have a confirmation number that they were received. So why are these people coming to my door with some phone number to contact them that is completely different from all the other Citimortgage numbers I have ever dealt with in my many months of working so closely with them? I have not been ignoring their calls and they have not been unable to reach me, I've made sure of that. If this really is Citimortgage hiring these contractors to do this, then they are wasting valuable resources because the right hand isn't talking to the left hand. I'll call Citi tomorrow - but using the number I've used all along with my primary contact peron within the Executive Response Team at Citi, not this new one that goes god-knows-where.

I've experienced the same. 2 days ago. I found a brown door tag with handwritten note: Please call citimortgage @ 866-940-5787. Then 2 days later, I received a Loan Mod Trial Plan from UPS which I've been expecting it. So guess what, as Scott stated, they are SENT by CitiM. Probably not directly by them but it was originated by CitiM. Which makes sense since Citi is a global company with so many clients around the world. They cannot afford to check individually by themselves. So by hiring an outside contractor to take pics of "their" property is a normal practice to me. I didn't reply to the note but i'm sure they are just letting you know that they've been looking at "their" property.

I got a notecard today from a guy driving a truck. He was nice and said he's hired by another company for Citi.  I called the number, gave too much info out, then got cold feet.  I just called Citi off my mtg. bill (a diff. number).  She had record that I had talked to an associate this morning.  That's how I know it's legit, but like another poster said ... TACKY!

I have found three of these "envelopes" hanging on my front door over the past few months.  The most recent I was within 5 feet of the door and never knew when they placed it there.  Citimortgage told me they do indeed hire companies to place these notices, but they couldn't identify exactly who it was that was hired to deliver them to me or why.  But just in case these "messengers" are reading this note BE WARNED.  Anyone I catch photographing my home without permission will be introduced to my 12 guage tire deflator.  BTW - I was a Marine sniper. Semper Fi!

Hello I'm glad I found this site and yes it happened to me today. Some beat-up jeep stopped right by the mailbox while I was taking my mail. A young woman came out wearing rags (I'm sorry but this is exactly how she appeared) and told me she needed to take picture of the property and to make sure the house is occupied. Threw a number at me and went back to car and took off. I called citiortgage and they admitted they hire people to do this. I'm glad they acknowledged. I also told them next time they might have to come and collect body off of my property.

I find this thread very amusing.  Everyone needs to realize that until their home is paid off, it is owned by the bank.  When pmts fall past due, it is the responsibility of the bank to make sure that the home is occupied and well maintained in the event it is foreclosed on.  As far as the "door hangers," it is my suggestion that you call the number back and speak to the bank about your delinquency.  They are trying to help you keep the home!  I can't believe the sense of entitlement that people have.  Does everyone really expect to stop making pmts on their mortgage and live in the house for free?

This was hanging on the doorknob at the front door. No name, no information on it other than it was IMPORTANT/IMPORTANTE and "Please be ready to give your account number."  How important can it be if you don't provide any info to ME?  Yes. I am trying to save my home from foreclosur, but I have responded to every contact from CitiMortgage.  Also, someone did take a picture of me taking the trash out! I thought my ex was stalking me.  How creepy can you get?  I'm not going to call the number.

LOL...about your comment...We are not behind and have never even been late...and we received one 2day...because the info was "handwritten"...we assumed this was not legit...so we did a little research and have found that this number that was listed is a "scam"...also, why are the people at this number asking for our social security numbers...so we contacted our lawyer, the police department and our local newspapers & news channels so that no one falls prey to this...nice try!

Also...my lawyer said that you would be surprised how many people fall for this one....

How do they get your name, address, phone # and mortgage company information? When you buy a house..it is "public" information...a company I used to work for used to "buy" lists that contained the names, addresses and phone #'s of people who just bought a house and it listed the name of their mortgage company....

Also, this particular 866 number is not a number that is linked to the "Field Chase" company...we called to verify...

I got one of these envelopes on my front rental house. I live in the appartment in back of the main house. A representative sent by "Citimortgage" keeps discussing my financial situation with the people who live in front but will not give his name or number. What happened to the privacy policy that every company in the USA has been preaching for the last 3 years and the millions of dollars spent on paper and postage to tell us how safe our information is.
The number is for Citimortgage but like any other large corporation, the left hand does not have a clue what the right hand is doing.
Just keep very detailed records on when you called, what number you called and who you talked to.
There is nothing to freak out about. If the customer service rep is rude in any way, just hang up and call back untill you get someone who is at least polite.

This is some sort of SCAM! Don't fall for it. I settled with CitiMortgage and just happened to open my door when the woman was putting the envelope on the doorknob. She said it was from CitiMortgage. I told her I had been in contact with CitiMortgage and we had worked out a deal and had settled the issue, and that she WAS NOT from CitiMortgage because they would never send people around like that but would deal with me by mail or telephone. IT IS A SCAM! I plan to report these people to the proper authorities.

Called here today in Snellville, GA.  Mortgage up to date.  Processing a refi to take advantage of the lower rates.
