I actually had that happen to me!  in the process of clearing up an issue with my account, a (real) bank rep called me, and tried to "verify" my identity with the usual stupid questions.

i just chuckled, and reminded them that *they* had called me, so i should be the one asking them for *their* date-of-birth and postal code.  they agreed, and stopped being silly.

It was legitmate, just a robotic call to ask for the minimum payment on my Visa. What bugs me is I skipped a payment because I've got virtually nothing but Netflix paid by Visa. A $21 balance, but seems those are the rules... Anyway, it's legit.

i just got this call wanted proof of identity, um account # NOT and wanted my birthdate and it wouldn't accept it> I work for the post offitce, why would I mail to RBC to find out what's going on that seems so URGENT? Nice try.

nope, it asked that i can press any key, then asked for my birthdate (which it didn't take) or my account number, like that was going to happen. BUT, they used my full first name, which I don't use. So it's interesting, that they have that info.

This is definitely a scam. I called my bank and they told me there is nothing wrong with any of my accounts and that these scams happen all the time. Don't trust any of the posts that say it's not a scam/

this is not Royal Bank calling !!!...... i checked this for clients..it's a promo scam out of the usa and elsewhere... do NOT release your personal info to any of these callers.. if you have a concern, go to your local branch...if it is a legitimate call from rbc we will have a record of it and why they were calling.. We will never call you to ask you for your personal info over the phone.

This IS RBC. I thought that it was a scam but it turns out I was late on my credit card payment!

It's a legitimate call from RBC collections. My son's credit card payment was late, and we received 6 calls a day from this number until he settled his account. See RBC's web site below for confirmation it's a legit number they use.

This number has been calling me every day several times a day. A recording clicks in and says it's an "important call from RBC" and they need to verify my identity. Scam!!

Oops, apparently it's legit? I cancelled with them years and years ago though.

I got a call from them recently with an automated voice that knew my name. I dialed the main RBC number to verify. I had an unused card that had a yearly fee on it. So yes, it's a legit number after all.
Personally, I don't trust a call when I pick up the phone and hear an automated voice. I mentioned this to the staff at RBC and they said that if a recent payment is due they just use the automated system. If you're unsure always better to be safe than sorry, just call the official RBC number and deal with it there.

All is I can tell from these posts some people are full of crap and some people are telling the truth or RBC repersenitives don't know what they are talking about its one or the other.This number has been calling several times a day for past week.When I contacted RBC they said there was nothing flagged on our accounts and that they would never call with an automated service if there was an issue or an unknown number that pops up it would always say RBC

It is not unusual for scammers or extortion scam operations to use & abuse real company names!  More then likely this is a scam operation abusing their name and trying to get your information.

You'll love to learn that 877-214-5948 is RBC's legit #, that the robo call that references it is legit, and that, in my case, it was because RBC wanted to take the position that my two last payments, sent postdated 2 -3 wks prior to the due date, must have been delayed by the mail, instead of someone at RBC sitting on and processing postdated cheques and holding the client responsible for the delay in processing...

It is to tell you ,you have missed credit card payment.
