I just got a charge from ACT and after doing some research (reading the posts) it turned out that its a payment from my child's Chicago Park District summer camp.

I was FREAKING OUT when I saw a $140 Charge appear on my account, charged to my debit card.  It took a little bit before I figured out that I paid for Swimming Lessons for my girls through the City Parks and Rec.  So in my case, NO, not a scam.

So I called the number to get my refund for this ridiculous charge. He said I'd get it in a few days, but he was a JERK about it!!!! I said thank you and he was like 'yup' with a teenage like sarcastic tone. Sounds like they get bombarded with the same charge dispute every day, good riddance. SCAM.

Call the number on your CC bill and they will refund the charges.  They found a charge in 2011 and refunded that too.

Why would someone do something so disgraceful like that!!! Believe in Karma dude!!!  What goes around comes around! =(  Creating troubles for others and take advantage from other people.

The checkbox should be unchecked from the beginning.. That is the right way to create the application. Trying to SCAM millions of people to be a millionaire????? SHAME on ACTIVE.COM!

Call the number, cancel the membership account (to stop the recurring charges) & ask for full refund.  Alert your credit card company or bank for fraudulence.

My partner a charge on a credit card for "ACT Registration" with this number on it for $9. I received emails about ACT Registration under my email recently but flagged them as spam because I graduated from college years ago and did not register for any tests in the past decade!

Some sort of strange scam is going on here, as I don't have my partner's banking information.

Call the number on the back of your card immediately and report the fraud to the bank and get a new card. That's what we did.

So thankful for google and 800notes.com!

Had this charge on my card - my husband has been doing marathons for the past few years, so don't know which time may have triggered this, but I am happy to know that I am not alone - thank you all for your explanations!!  We will be calling ASAP to get this straightened out....

And, it IS a sneaky way of doing business.  And who on earth would charge $59.95 (!!) for some sort of subscription?!

Never registered for a race or event. Not sure where they got my information but charged me 59.95. I was vacationing at the time. This is a scam or an unscrupulous way of doing business.

Its been quite some time since Ive registered for a race thru the Active.com website. 2 days before my card expired I was hit with a $59.95 charge that I had no idea was coming. I have never seen anything on their site about membership fees! I never received an email or a call, I found the number on my bank statement for ACT* Registration....

I got the same charge of 59.95. It was when I reserved a camp site through reserveamerica.com.
It was a special discount program that I didn't sign up for. It is done automatically and you have 30 days to cancel it. I called up act and they are refunding my money for the annual fee. Not a bad idea for the discounts, but they should give you the option that you can choose to or not to take it.

Like everyone else, charge of 59.95 for an Active premium membership my wife had not idea she somehow signed up for when she signed up for a local race.   So how is this getting through?  Is there some checkbox that needs to be checked or unchecked?   Called the 877 number and cancelling the membership and getting a refund.

I noticed a $59.95 charge on my account after signing up for a 5k. I'm so glad I found this forum, I had no idea where the charge came from. I sent an extremely un-pleased email to the company and plan to call them tomorrow ASAP to get refunded.

Just saw a pending 59.95$ charge on our credit card statement regarding a 9K mother's day running race in 2012.   What a treat to give to a mom!  It looks like active.com is involved with various types of races and it is shocking to me  how every race organization still utilizes them for their registration process. We're disputing the charge with our credit card but what a waiste of time! Be very careful with these scammers.  Any legitimate company would be upfront about their charges and doesn't seem like they are after all these years of complaints.

I called, and got the rep after about 20mins on hold.  I just got billed, and looked back to when I last used Active, which was a year ago, and they charged me then too.  The lady was nice and back paid me for this year and last years as well...

They are counting on that small minority who don't check there bills... had this not been a Recession most folks probably wouldn't have gave it a second look.
