You're wrong.  It is a scam.  It is inherently deceptive and consumer fraud.

The same happened to us. It's a real scam, charge as many people as you can and see who complains. I wish I could make money like that. Oh yea, I would be put in jail, but nobody is watching them. Where the hell is the better buisness agency?

Called the bank after reading some of these posts. They helped me de-cifer (Jethro talkin here) the letters ACT is the company many sports, and parks goe through. The next letters represented the neighboring city's Parks and recreation. She asked if my family or myself went swimming or golfing or anything else associated with the City. Well I then remembered .....I was glad she was very nice about my mistake. Same phone number listed as everyone else.

Yes, that's the problem! The 877 number has been disconnected. They don't register anywhere. I'm disabled so I haven't signed up for any fees. That they are listing a disconnected number is proof positive this is a scam. I'm looking to get state and federal attorney generals involved, These people need to be charged with wire fraud. It isn't the amount involved personally. It's what they're stealing continuously. Please, everyone file with their state and federal attorney generals.

Just checked my bank statement and saw a charge for $586.00 from this company Active.com, WHAT IS GOING ON! I would remember spending that much money on an event or camping.  I have never ran a marathon, haven't signed up for anything that relates to the other posts. Way more than the $59.95 or $64.95 charges most people are getting. I cancelled my card and tried calling Active.com but it is after hours. I want to shut them down!! What a pain to deal with the bank and getting charges reversed. This burns me up.

No the fee to register for the race was paid for and came out of my account separately. This is them trying to scam me into getting a separate membership with Active.com.

I also got a $ 420 bill from them in my credit card.
I was surprised because I could remember what was it.
But I finally remembered. It was the inscription to the Brazilian Ironman competition.
    So, it was correct.

My good friend used to work in the Commerce department at Active.  The scam complaints are completely true and the company knows it.  The main statistic the company tracks is "trial rate".  That is the % of online registrants that opt to take the Active Advantage free trial after you register for an event using active.com services.  While a public company, Active would make over $30 million per year from this Active Advantage scam, and the trial rate was over 10%.  And hardly any members really use the service at all.  Shameful! In the last year, the company decided it was too risky to have this big of a scam, and was starting to eliminate the program.  The trial rate was brought down below 5% and was on its way to being zero.  The new owners of the company, Vista Equity Partners, have supposedly brought the trial rate back up OVER 10%.  Criminal! The state of Iowa sued Active Network and forced them to stop presenting Active Advantage trial offer to Iowa residents.  I can't imagine why other states do not do the same thing.http://www.state.ia.us/government/ag/latest_n ... e_merchant.html

Just received a 64.95 charge out of nowhere.  They got my info through a 5k I registered for in March and now I am being charged in March for Premium Membership.  Active.com is a complete scam.

A charge of $64.95 showed up on my credit card.  I called the number (887-228-4881) ACT Active Network and it was an automatic message saying thank you for signing up for the ACT Advantage Card for $64.92 which I didn't.  I didn't sign up for this card or make a donation or participate in some kind of race like others have stated.  This is nothing but fraud.  I purchased some free iphone apps and one for approximately $3 and one for approximately $2 from the itunes store; I'm sure this fraud company got my credit card number.  Regardless, dispute the charges and cancel your credit card.  Too bad some people can't get a job and actually earn their money instead of committing fraud.

Turns out this unwanted, mysterious charge was from signing up/purchasing a camp site through ReservationAmerica.  The company required me to register (email and password) with them before I could select and pay for my campground reservation.  I proceeded through the checkout and apparently they must have pre-selected somewhere on the webpage a small checkbox for a trial membership for some bogus discount deal on future events on the same webpage to confirm my order.  First of all I would not be interested in a membership in that I rarely camp and don't run races.  Secondly I would never pay $65 for a membership to get a discount.  The company knows people won't pay for something they don't want or can't use which is why they have the charge hidden somewhere on the webpage~ you don't know what you're paying for (basically a scam.)  I never saw any amount listed on my receipt, confirmation email, or the order form for $64.95 otherwise I would have questioned it and cancelled my order.  When a company doesn't clearly show all charges in plain sight before you purchase or order it then it's deceptive practice.  I hope all the parks across the US and races stop using ReserveAmerica (Active Network) for its reservation system because they use deceptive practices.  They can't make money in an honest and ethical manner and should be shut down.  It's businesses like this that make people skeptic about purchasing or making reservations online.

I registered my daughter for summer camp to be conducted through my town's recreation program. They utilize Active.com as their 'go-to' site for such sign ups. I saw the pending hold on my bank's phone app and called 877 228-4881 immediately to state that I did NOT authorized this 'membership' and was told that it would NOT be processed.  Lo and behold, I check my account this morning and sure enough they hit it for $64.95. #fraud #dishonestbusinesspractices #thieves
