i suspected the worst when i saw 2 charges from ACT on my credit card statement,  one for $15 and one for $50....turns out it was at my local golf course where i had paid for a years pass ($50) and also played 9 holes while i was there ($15).  so all is good here,  the charges were legit.

Here it is 2012 and Active.com is still doing the same thing (charging credit cards $55.95 without previously asking if the subscription is desired for another year).  I suspect it was a free subscription where I expected to be notified when the option for paying the next year came up, since I look pretty carefully for checkboxes that are already checked.  In any case, when I called the person was very polite and quickly refunded the charge (well, after 3-5 days).  Not a good business practice in my opinion, and as a race director I'll avoid using them for this reason.

Yes, 2012 and they are still up to the same thing. Just got this charge. Lady on the phone charged it right back, but when I brought up the topic of how negative the comments were on this issue, she said "are you aware of our Better Business Bureau A+ rating in San Diego for how we resolved the issue?" I replied that still, if half of people don't notice the company still makes money for doing nothing, while pissing off the other half. She then hung up on me: "ma'am, I'm not going to listen to you." Yes, A+.

March 27, 2012. Business as usual.
Just noticed a $60 charge from ACT on my march 19th statement. Almost didn't even ask my wife figuring it was just an online purchase. But she hadn't heard of them so I called the CC co.  The woman googled the phone number and found this site and suggested I call the company tomorrow to investigate. She also checked my. Urgent balance and found an additional $60 charge on March 24th. So I went online and reviewed my previous 13 statements (furthest back they have) and discovered two more charges of $60 and $75.05. Will call them tomorrow and if they don't refund I will just disput through the CC company. What a hassle if I have to dispute and get a new card.

It IS a SCAM.  Any reputable company is up front about what they are charging you.  This is clearly a fraudulent effort to steal money from people by a scummy disreputable disgraceful excuse for a company.

May you are used to dealing with pron sites that do this crap but a reputable business would not be engaged in this.

It's from Active.com. I registered for a charity 5K run. They give you a "free" 30 day trial to their website and if you don't opt out within 30 days they take the credit card number you used for the charity and charge you $59.95 for a membership. I called and got it reversed within 5 mins.

My wife signed up for a race almost a year ago, and one year later they hit us with a $59.95 charge on the card she used a year ago to sign up for the race. Watch Your Card and Bank Statements!

Yup, same thing happened here when I signed up for ORAMM 2012 mountain bike race. Call the number, select option 3, and talk to a very friendly Active.com rep who will be more than happy to refund your $$.

It literally pays to check your credit card statements!!!

I have to admit I'm another sucker for that "I think illigal" "registration" fee. These people should be in jail. I called and with no hassel they canceled it. I don't even recall signing up or checking on any event! What bothers me the most is how in the hell did they get my "M/C - bank acct"?

Listed on credit card billing.  Charge was for registering my child in a Chicago Park District Program.  It was legit.

Just got me for $61.37...I'm in Canada, so maybey that's after exchange. The only thing I can think of is registering my son for T-Ball. Goes to show...you have to watch your bill. I just had my CC company cancel the charge, there's no need to phone the ACT people. Now you know how to make a bunch of money...as long as you have no ethics or morals... Sounds like as long as they're quick to credit the people who complain, there's no reprocussions for the other people they give the helix to. Nice loophole.
