Same thing happened to me.  I registered for a race about a month ago and here is the charge of 59.95 on my credit card statement.  Spent all Sunday trying to dig up what this was, could come up with nothing. I'm made and I say this not right doing this to people. As long as I get it credited back to my account I will stop complaining.  This is dirty!!

I just notice the same 59.95 charge a half year later. I will call them and if they don't refund they will be in trouble. This is not right and I will organize an effort to stop this fraud. I checked my e-mail whether I ever got a receipt or a notice of the charge and never did. This is pure fraud and they better reverse it immediately. Will likely file a complaint anyway, because we collectively need to get this stopped. I will write all the organizations that use active.com to organize their events. They should stop doing that. We the consumer should uprise here against this injustice.

I was cancelling a magazine that I kept getting charged for but never received and looked to see if there were other charges- that's when I saw this one for active- I called and she IMMEDIATELY took it off and refunded- the button is automatically checked when you sign up for any race- it's pure bs but at least they reimburse you and don't ask any questions.

I too just got charged $59.95 on my January credit card statement for an Active Advantage membership.

Mind you, I signed up on a bicycle tour in September using active.com.

I don't remember clicking on anything to get a membership and certainly wouldn't seek out such a costly thing.

I got the charge refunded, but this is a scam, pure and simple.

I got the same charge... I can't believe they would be so tricky and cause customers to have to go through this hassle.  I am going to do it the old fashion way from now on - by check!!!

Just got hit with the $59.95 on Visa bill also. Googled the number and got these posts. Thanks everyone for the info. Trying to call now and get a refund. BTW, signed my daughter up for a field hockey camp in November using Active and just got this charge.

I got the $59.95 charge because I signed my 5 yr old grandson for soccer in our town in CT.  I called the 877 number and spoke with a very pleasant woman who said she would remove the charge and send an email confirming same.  Also, that my credit card would be credited in 3-5 business days, same as others here have been told.

We just found the charge on our credit card and noticed that we were charged last year too. . . CHECK back a year or two!

Please file with the FTC using the link below.

I also notified a couple race directors who said they have had similar problems and they said they will seek a new company.  Do the same!

I just called active.com for the same 59.95 charge.  I used the website because my local Y sends you to their site to sign up for events with the local Y itself.  The rep from active.com said I had signed up for a free 30-day trial with active.com to keep me informed of lifestyle items that will help me in maintaining an active lifestyle.  I did not sign up for an account on active.com when using the site for registering for my local Y event.  They did not give me any sales pitches or hard sales or a difficult time in asking to have the charge reversed, however.  They tell me it will be reversed in 3-5 business days.  If it is not, I will post to inform.

My girlfriend and I signed up for a 1/2 marathon and I got screwed with this charge too.  And i've been on hold for 30 minutes.  What a joke.  [***] Active.com.  DO NOT USE IT.  SCAM SCAM SCAM.  $59.95 month charge for nothing.

    Hi Tammy,

I just got the same 59.95 charge for the LA marathon I ran in 2008. I was billed in 2009 and 2010. I called active.com and they said that they will pay back this year as well as the previous year so am expecting to  get credited back 119.90$ . Please ask to talk to their supervisor (his name is Mike) and they agreed to return for both years. Hope you get your money back

Signed up for a triathlon noticed a charge for 59.95 on my bank account statement (A lot of people could easily miss if, I only noticed because I take meticulous care of my money).  Same thing, called them and had to wait on hold for 20+ minutes to even just get a person on the line.  Said they would reverse my charge.  Horrible customer service if you register for one thing that all of a sudden they just start billing you for things.

Saw the charge. Made a call. Going to be refunded with 3-5 business days. I'll check to see if this is complete after that time, but so far so good. Very nice about reversing the charge.

It was suggested by my baseball league to register my son online using active.com. I went to the site on  Jan 13th 2010 and signed up and paid the baseball fee as outlined by the online instructions.
The charged cleared on my Jan credit card statement. Come February, my statement has a $59.95 charge from Active.com unauthorized by me. I was not able to get through by phone at 877-228-4881 to active.com getting the run around recorded messages.
I am working with my credit card company to reverse the charges.
Please be aware of this issue, ESSPECIALLY  TEAM ORGANIZERS!.

Being from Canada, my charge was $63.17.  I called the number (select extension #3), was on hold for 15 minutes, but then, same as many above, they explained I had "inadvertently" selected a free 30-day trial of a membership in "Active".  They asked for my email address & found my account then promised to cancel the charge within four or five days, no hassle.

I signed up for the Aflac Iron Girl on Feb 22nd, $118. On March 25th I noticed a charge on my credit card for $59.95. This was the Active.com trial membership charge. Apparently it was spelled out in the fine print (that I was not able to find).

I called Active.com at 877-228-4881 and very nicely said that I did not expect this charge and they offered a FULL REFUND. Apparently they get this dispute a lot. From now on I will be registering via snail mail to avoid this from happening again.
