- BigA replies to justjanice| 2 repliesYou went to public school and they took money? For what? In any case, they must follow FDCPA regulations which state this:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
At which time you must do this:
You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I was going to be a medical assistant. It's basically taking bp and temps in a doctor's office. I had a doctor's appointment and my doctor said the school sucked so I stopped going. The school closed down a year later. I wasn't supposed to have to pay anything but the "student loan" came before the grant money they said. They got paid from my income tax. They said they didn't keep the records that far back. Thankyou very much for everything.
- BigA replies to justjaniceThat sounds like a scam at the school as well. I would look into getting that money returned. You might have a good shot at it. You are welcome to the other information, hopefully it will help.
- BrannenCall me about a old grilfriend
- ReneeUsually 800 or 877 numbers are ok but nowadays I trust no one. First it called my cell, I didn't answer, then immediately it called my landline. I still didn't answer. I always research a number I don't know. According to the comments here dating back as far as 2009, this was added to my block list. No worries, no problems.
- Cathy replies to outahea| 2 repliesA student loan is never written off ever. You have to pay it regardless of how long ago you took the loan out.
- Cathy replies to CathyHere is no statute of limitations on a student loan.
- BigA replies to CathyWhy are you replying to a post written in 2010, 6 years ago? Are you expecting that person to see your post after all this time/
- scam proofgot called by scammers. not a valid collection agency since I have never been in debt or cosigned anything ever. find it incredibly funny that people in this thread are listening to the scammers here pretending to be with a company and/or government agency. What legitimate business pays people to argue about their legitimacy on scam report blogs?

- Federal Agent replies to FMS EMPYour story isn't consistent. I doubt you work for FMS now or ever. You're just here to pat your ego.
- MotokidThey call from a number that appears as a local cell phone and never leave a message. They continue to take the agreed amount directly from my account every month. Yet for some reason with leaving me no messages and therefore no opportunity to know what is going on they called my best friend and say they need to speak to me immediately. They also did not count my first four payments because the initial person I spoke to did not do the paperwork correctly. I have sent them paperwork 4 times now and they continue to say they have never received it and then my payments will not count, yet they have no problem to continue taking my money. I will be following the advice of others on this forum and contacting different departments and agencies in regards to this matter. FYI, if you do call back be prepared for a lengthy conversation. Each of the three times I've spoken to this company it has been 45 minutes to an hour. What I have called back to inform them that I have faxed, email, and mailed my paperwork I either get hung up on or have to leave voicemails for people that never returned my call. Then, weeks after the fact they start the calling from the random cell phone number and hanging up.

They said they work for Dept of Education and that my mom was on the loan amount but I know for a fact my mother didn't co sign because she never co signs for anything. She is very stern on that rule. I'm tired of them calling and harrassing me 5* a day.

- George Alex replies to bjc| 1 replyOne way to make them stop calling you is to use Google Voice for your voicemail as you can block the call before it even reaches you with a message saying this phone number has been disconnected. I am disabled and had all of my student loans nullified yet I still get calls from these idiots.
- William replies to George AlexSome of the scammers themselves are using Google Voice; that's why when people try to call back they get the disconnected message. Dirty tricks.
- Jason D.This number continues to call about a "personal business matter". They do not state what they do or who they are. Fraud.
