I got a call from AFB today stating that I owed a debt from US Bank in the amount of $200 and some change and saying they needed me to pay within 48 hours or this matter would be turned into my county court system and would be taken to court (just like all others have said on here). I didnt even get anything in the mail from US bank so I asked them about my US Bank account. They told me that my account was turned over to them from DMP (Dept Management Partners). I then called DMP and they gave me a # to some other guy at AFB. I called them and the ORIGINAL guy who first called me somehow showed up on the line again saying that I needed to resolve the matter immediately and then he began being rude. So I hung up the phone and just decided to call my US Bank branch which my acct was done with them and "charged off". They gave me the number to the ACTUAL company my account was turned over to which is TMT collections management. Long story short: The guy there who was really nice essentially told me that they turned my account over to DMP and then DMP turned my account over to AFB.. veryyy confusing but he did say that they CAN AND COULD IN FACT turn my account into the county district court and sue me for the debt i owe & THEN be charged for the extra court fees and all that. Called AFB back and just paid it off with a new lady who was nice. She said she is sending me a letter saying i paid in full and will not be turned over to the court. If not, then i have proof on my bank statement that they took the money and take it to my credit bureaus and it can be handled that way.

I, personally just paid it... I knew i owed it and so I just paid it. The first guy was VERY RUDE... If you get someone that is like that, just say that u want to speak to a manager & that you are willing to pay but want someone who knows how to actually talk to someone like a professional.

But ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR ORIGINAL DEBTOR FIRST before you hand the money over just to make sure! Idk if they are a scam but I called everyone who was involved and it seemed legit to me.

    Can Not's
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, FDCPA, dictates how debt collectors can act when collecting a debt from you. These are things a debt collector can't do. If you need to reference the law, citations have been provided.
    1. Ask you to pay more than you owe
The collector cannot misrepresent the amount you owe. [15 USC 1692e] § 807(2)(a)
    2. Ask you to pay interest, fees, or expenses that are not allowed by law
The collector can't add on any extra fees that your original credit or loan agreement doesn't allow. [15 USC 1692f] § 808(1)
    3. Call repeatedly or continuously
The FDCPA considers repeat calls as harassment. [15 USC 1692d] § 806(5)
    4. Use obscene, profane, or abusive language
Using this kind of language is considered harassment. [15 USC 1692d] § 806(2)
    5. Call before 8:00 am or after 9:00 pm
Calls during these times are considered harassment. [15 USC 1692c] § 805(a)(1)
    6. Call at times the collector knew or should know are inconvenient
Calls at these times are considered harassment. [15 USC 1692c] § 805(a)(1)
    7. Use or threaten to use violence if you don't pay the debt
    Collectors can't threaten violence against you. [15 USC 1692d] § 806(1)
    8. Threaten action they cannot or will not take
Collectors can't threaten to sue or file charges against you, garnish wages, take property, cause job loss, or ruin your credit when the collector cannot or does not intend to take the action. [15 USC 1692e] § 807(5)
    9. Illegally inform a third party about your alleged debt
Unless you have expressly given permision, collectors are not allowed to inform anyone about your debt except:
    your attorney
    the creditor
    the creditor's attorney
    a credit reporting agency
    your spouse
your parent (if you are a minor)
    [15 USC 1692c] § 805(b)
    10. Repeatedly call a third party to get your location information
The collector can only contact a third party once unless it has reason to believe the information previously provided is false. [15 USC 1692b] § 804(1)

    W.T.
This is a legitimate business with shady practices and a bunch of a**s using scare tactics to get people to pay their debt .  I received calls from Michael Owens with threats and giving me 24 hrs to call him back and yada yada yada. My Debt Consolidation company called them, spoke with Owens, got the total of my debt, the amount they were willing to settle and yet, the next day he still left me a vm saying they never called him and harassed me again. Total lie. To make a long story short, I spoke with the Office of the Commissioner of Financial Regulation in my State as well as an attorney and they cannot take me to court, garnish my wages, nothing. Besides, the interest rates they were applying to the debt was WAY out of my State's limit for this kind of loan, I owe them and I need to pay, no doubt about it, but not in these terms. I am currently seeking mediation for the settlement and asked the company to cease all communication with me. Don't ignore, but protect yourself. You need to know your rights.

They are liars and scam artist. Do not give them a dime. They are a third party debt collector, get everything in writing and record all phone converstions it will hurt them in the end.

THESE PEOPLE ARE LEGITIMATE!!!!!!  I have had to deal with them regarding a cash net loan and have not had any problems.  I worked a very good settlement out with them and almost have it paid for.  They do not take any extra money etc....  Received proof of my debt that they had.  If you owe it talk to them.  They will work with you.  I also have proof of all my payments to them etc...They may use scare tactics but remember you know what they can and can't do.  They I assume get paid if we pay.   I just wanted people to know on the blog that to the best of my knowledge they are legitimate and I WILL NEVER TAKE OUT ANOTHER PAY DAY LOAN AGAIN EVERRRRRRRRR!!!!  NOT WORTH THE HASSLE.
