Called and hung up when I answered and I have never had a BB&T account, no reason for them to call me.

Received call from this number, didnt recognize the number so i let voice mail pick up. The message gave me a case number. Called back from another phone and gave the case number, verified birth date, middle digits of ssn. A very long list of charges were listed. Some approved some declined. Then spoke with a human who said that most were internet charges at an odd time of day 5:30am so they notified me. Said my card has been deactivated and a new one will be issued in 3-5 days. Was told if i had online banking to keep an eye out for when the approved charges were posted to my account. Once posted i was told to call the 800 # on the back of my card to file a fraud claim and i would be reimbursed. After hanging up, i checked my account online and the new card is already listed, i just have to activate it when i receive it in the mail. Also, all of the charges that were listed on the phone were also viewable online under pending charges. The charges that were declined were listed as pending as well as credited. The same 2 i was told on the phone to look out for that were approved were listed as pending but not credited. Everything the lady on the phone told me matched what i was looking at online.

Caller was mad I would not take a survey. Called my business cell phone several times. Demanded to rape my underage daughter if I did not do the Google Listings survey. Government, FTC, FCC, and FTT need to shutdown these dumb telemarketers. They need to die in a slow painful burning death raped with melted plastic phones in their orifices.. We can not even run a business anymore with over 10 of these calls from all different numbers of the day. They call from Florida, California.,.. Ignorant people with no life.

IT REALLY IS BB&T'S FRAUD DEPARTMENT. GODADDY.COM posted a charge for $393.85 as an online charge.  THANK GOD they called me.  You have to wait for the transaction to go from pending to posted before it is refunded but I was told that since it was fraud, I would get my money back.  RETURN THEIR CALL.

Someone who just got a call.
I am kind of beginning to think that the number may not be JUST BB&T with the mix of posts on here with people out of the US and such, this very well could be someone contracted by YOUR bank or other business as it sounds like a basic call center..

I bank with BB&T and was skeptical of this after some of the posts from some on here.  If you are in doubt, CALL YOUR BANK.

I called BB&T's phone number (1-800-BANKBBT from their website bbt.com) and went to their fraud department.  I asked them if it was their number and they said that indeed it was.

DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, just call your banks number that is on the back of your debit/credit card, and speak to a real person.  BB&T is taking over a lot of banks right now via mergers and FDIC Closures, so it very well may be YOUR bank calling, even though you "don't bank with BB&T".

YMMV, etc.  Have a good day!

This number is BB&T. They called me to verify the payment I made; The call was from their fraud dept. I called the bank directly to make sure it was legit.

SCAMMER.  I get emails from them as well with this phone #.  The responses here saying it's true are part of the scam.

This number is legitimate. I called BB&T's 1-800-BANK-BBT and the man verified that the bank was contacting me about a recent purchase. You can either call back or wait on hold forever with BBT's general line and find the same info out. Either way, don't let fraudulent activity get you down!

Obviously you are a shill for a phishing operation.  It makes sense that you would be here debunking a
    legit FRAUD PREVENTION LINE.

If you have a card from bb&t and get a call from this number and are skeptical, just call the number on the back of your card and work your way through the menu to speak to a CSR.  They will tell you that the deal is.

Twice a year I purchase a service from another country.  Every time the transaction is flagged.  Every time I call this number to verify my transaction and all is well.

To each his/her own, you decide.

Caller ID is obsolete. A criminal, in Asia, with a computer, high speed internet, voip & a few bucks in software can make your phone appear to say anything. Never give out personal information on a call you did not make.

Probably BB&T and some scammer using the number.  I wouldn't be surprising since scammers can disguise their numbers easily.  I have gotten calls that appeared as a local number just to get me to pick up.

I have been through a lot with unauthorized transactions with the bank I was with before so I called this number back.  And the message always says that if at any time you feel uncomfortable providing the information to just call customer service.  They call each month when one particular transaction I have set up that originates in California goes through.

Just call the number on the back of your card or your local number if you need to, but if you have an account with BB&T, I would not ignore the call.

And I've posted plenty on this site about different companies trying to scam me, so I'm not a shill.  Been through hell and back with scammers and people trying to collect money from me I didn't owe.  I wouldn't be posting in defense of a scammer.

We love how you can't spell "[***]" or "lying". It goes a long to toward explaining why you make your so-calling living by committing fraud.

Good advice "genius". I hope everyone does. They'll find that the number is being "spoofed". By frauds. They may be able to spoof their caller ID, but they can't intercept the number on the back of your card. Dirt-bag fraudsters can basically tell your caller ID to show that they're calling from anywhere from Nirvanha to Hades. Hang up. Call the number on the back of your card. Ask questions. That'll do it.
    Be Safe. Be Aware.

Why don't you just call BB&T and ask them if the number is theirs or not before you make a post like this?
