I missed the first call and got a message to call them back. I checked here and saw mixed reviews so I was going to call BB&T's main line. Then they called back.

The automated message told me my name and asked if that was correct. It then told me about two charges (which were for purchases I just made online) and asked if they were legit. That's it. I didn't have to give any personal info or anything.

If someone calls from any number asking for your personal info, obviously don't give it to them. This was not that kind of call. If in doubt, call BB&T's main line and talk to someone about any flags on your account.

NO it is not.  This number is from the Fraud Department @ BB&T.  It's not a scam, and I am certainly not a "shill" or "stooge".  They are merely calling to verify unknown transactions made from your bank account.  The call comes quite quickly after making a purchase in a new place, like I did this afternoon online.  I'm glad I called instead of relying on your misinformation.

Instead of calling the number back, the most sensible thing to do is call the number listed on the card.

These threads are CONSTANT back and forth about is it a scam or isn't it - I've received legit AND scam calls from different numbers and I too have been called a shill for it. The ONLY advice I can give -everyone- is

ALWAYS CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD.

    Always.

It pays to be vigilant but not to always trust everyone you read online OR everything you're told over the phone.  Trust yourself and do your due diligence.

It's authentic. If you're a BBT member and you've enrolled in their fraud alert program and you incurr unusual charges they will call you to verify that you authorized the transcactions. Either press 1 for authorized or 2 for unauthorized. It's a valid number. I've had my idnetify stolen so I placed an alert on my SS# as well as enrolled in the BBT program.

I actually just received a letter from BB&T with this number on it to call the Debit Card Monitoring Services.  It was a little suspect to me, so rather than calling the number listed, I called the bank directly and was transferred over to monitoring services.  It was indeed a legit letter from BB&T to verify some odd charges on my card.  I understand why anyone would be cautious, but definitely check it out - as you see in my case, it turned out to be legit.

    Yes is your bank
1-877-557-0506 called and I wasn't sure so I called my BB&T bank directly and told them I got a call from this people. The customer service rep verified that that is their fraud prevention line.

You idiots saying it's a shill are a bunch of morons. It's BB&T fraud department. They ask for NO card numbers. I was actually waiting for the call after my card was declined due to christmas shopping. Now my card is working again. I swear everyone around here is so paranoid it's ridiculous. They don't even ask for your card number or personal identification information when you call back. You just answer 3 basic questions that in no way give out personal information. It's all automated and they just want you to confirm or decline transactions in case of fraud. LEGIT. Plain and simple.

It is a legit number....I got a message and called the number on the back of my debit card. Turns out someone tried to use my card number to buy 200.00 worth of merchandise at a Walmart in a different place.

    Legit
It's BB@T's fraud department. Someone had access to my card info and tried to make purchases online. They are shutting down my card and mailing me a new one. They did not ask for any specific personal information, so they were not a scam trying to steal my info.

This is indeed BB&T fraud department.  Do not ignore it.  They caught approximately 15 transactions that if they had gone through, it would've totaled over $1,440.  They did not ask for any personal information, other than a couple of simple questions to verify it is really you.  They do not ask for your social security number or address or even mother's maiden name.  If you do not feel comfortable speaking with them when they call you, then call the toll-free number on the back of your card; that's what I did after I let the call go to voicemail.  The person I spoke with confirmed they were trying to reach me about possible fraud on my card and then transferred me to the fraud department.  The fraud dept. representative was extremely nice and confirmed this toll-free number is indeed theirs.  I applaud BB&T for being on top of it and catching these attempts at using my debit card number.  They went over each transaction that tried to go through and gave me the dollar amounts and location/store it was attempted.

This is BB&T's real fraud protection number. I called it back and went through an automated system, though I had a time a few months ago where I had talked to a real person. When I'd gotten to the list of transactions, I had my bank site pulled up and things followed it perfectly. It was all due to some new purchases I'd made, where a couple items were previously declined. I'd gotten them to finally go through. BB&T is pretty strict, but I like that.

FYI- I got a voicemail from this same number, and do bank with BB&T.  I called the number on the back of my debit card, and was connected to the Fraud Department.  It was a legit call from the bank, and they were verifying a suspicious transaction made to my card.  Turns out, the transaction was one that I had made, it was just out of the ordinary for my purchases on the card.

If you ever doubt, call your bank directly, or stop by, and then they can direct you from there.

under federal law is very sirious offense to open an account to any indivudual o corporation that presents false documentation, this is beyond my comprehension that your bank would be involved in something like that; I am requesting full refund of my wire transfer ASAP or you would  leave me no choice but to proceede with a law suit just like my attorneys are advising me.
1100008457792 your bank confirmed that belongs to Factory Closeouts Inc; tha’s why I went ahead with the transaction therefore it is your full responsability and I expect You to Act properly in this matter.

You'd actually get a response if you talk to your BANK - this website is an online forum for people who receive unknown/spam/scam calls.  As such, this website has absolutely nothing to do with any transactions from or to your bank.  You'll have to contact your financial institution and talk or write to them.
