OK....postings like this really piss me off.  Everyone wants to go after everyone and their brother these days.  Let's take a step back and look at the entire picture here.  You get calls like this because YOU OWE MONEY!  And if you don't owe anything then why not pick up the damn phone and answer it and et the person know.  Not answering it is a sign of guilt.  Let's come out of the make believe world everyone lives in and step up to the plate and take responsilility for your actions.  If you owe something.....you owe it.  And if you don't, then why do you have to dodge phone calls all the time.

It id judt crazy to keep reading all these [***] postings.  PAY UP OR SHUT UP!

It says little for the FTC's public relations that so many attorneys are as lost the public regarding debt collection rules. The DNC registry is for telemarketers, meaning sales, meaning all debt collectors are exempt. The following URL links to the FTC FAQ page which the DNC site *twice* coaxed you to read before you registered your numbers. See items 28 through 32.
    http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt107.shtm

The FDCPA is where you should look for relief, which sets the rules and provides private right of action when collectors violate .... something they do pretty often as a vital part of their business model. See also your state laws for additional support.
    http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpajump.shtm

Note that FDCPA does not cover original creditors, but it's not clear from this thread we aren't dealing with a third party dressing in a lender's clothing, itself a violation.

Fascinating how every time someone in a collections thread wants us to "look at the big picture" or "think about it", it's always within the tunnel vision perspective of "Pay Youse Bills" and blaming the victims. Quite a few of the responses here regard misdirected calls and billing snafus, *none* of which were caused by the call recipients. Runaway skip tracing is arguably the number one problem created by the debt industry. People are pelted each day by agency autodialers for the flimsiest of reasons whether or not they may owe something.

} "Not answering  ... is a sign of guilt."

EVERYthing an alleged debtor does and says, and does not say and do, is a "sign of guilt" to you industry cheerleaders. The only "make believe" is your mantra that all call recipients are lazy and greedy liars like the collections reps. Seems to me the high volume collectors and small time extortionists have made lawbreaking into a business model. Where is the "responsibility" in that?

The telephone is a primary bullying weapon of the collectors. It is a consumer's right to disarm the collector and take the discussion to a paper trail where it is harder for abuses to be committed.

} "Everyone wants to go after everyone ..."

Perusal of any civil court calendar will show that the same scofflaw collectors and junk debt buyers are by very far the main aggressors, who extend their lawbreaking with false affidavits and shoddy tricks. It is not a crime or a moral problem to defend your state and federal rights, holding the debt chasers to statutory rules of conduct. This, for the last bloody time, is a separate issue from any dollar amount which might be claimed, and yes, these firms must be held to the strictest standard of proof when that claim is challenged.

The # is an  auto-call that quite annoyingly calls several times per day..I have nothing with citi-bank (if it is indeed legitimately from them) therefore no account # to give them..I feel it's a scam to get some unsuspecting people to hand over their account info...then the caller will use that # to purchase large & small ticket items  Be wise..don't give any caller your acct. info over the phone!!!

They call seven days a week and say the calls won't stop until you start
paying. They start in the morning while I am still sleeping up until it's
time for me to go back to bed at night.

I have been getting several calls a day. I have only talked to a person one time all the other calls that I answered there was no response. The one time I talked to a person they asked for someone I had never heard of, they are not looking for me but someone has used my Government issued cell phone #. After informing them that the number they have is not a good number to call I was told I would be taken off there list but sure as anything I continued to get call the following morning.

We had several calls from this number with dead silence and one where a young sounding female came on the sine after a pause of several seconds, obviously auto dialer, and asked for wife by badly mangling her last name.  I hung up at that point since it was obviously a scam or a cold call solicitation..

This number calls me at least 3 times a day, since I have received my Zales Card in the mail. Thing is they aren't calling asking for me, I am the only person on the phone account and I have told them numerous times that I am not the person they are looking for. Each associate says that they are going to take that name off my account which is a lie because I still receive their phone calls. These people are VERY hard to deal with. What makes things even more aggravating is that I don't even have a balance on my card not to mention I haven't even activated it! I am going to cancel the Zales card immediately!!

they called me today saying the were from citibank and that my home depot payment was deliquent. Interesting since I made two payments on that card since the last bill. On top of that I have the current bill at home not even due for another week. Then the woman asked me to make a payment ! Then for my home address and if the number she was calling was for a home or cell phone and for my email address.  I told her that no I wasn't making any phone payments (which they would have charged for)  what would it matter if it were home or cell since she reached me and if I have an account why would they need my home address. I obioviously got the bill because I paid it and why would I give them an email address. I no longer use Home depot credit card since they wanted to charge me more interest on the balance by increasing the credit rate for everyone. I opted out. But here's the interesting part I just changed my phone number about a month ago. guess who wasn't on the list to get it.

To B101 and Resident47, you are both IDIOTS. If the caller was from a real card company they would tell you what card was delinquent and why. They wouldn't beat around the bush and ask for your account details, and they would leave a proper message with the details. I work for Citi. Citi won't call for Home Depot, Shell, Radio Shack or any other the other companies the caller claims they represent. I've received calls from this number. I don't use the number they called for any of my cards. I have checked with the fraud department and they don't have the number in Citi accounts. So you two morons should stop spouting the "I must be guilty" talk. Sounds like you work for the fraudulent 877 number. Why would you be responding to these people if you didn't have something at stake. Why would you put this number in a web search to find the complaints if this didn't concern you. All other should contact the FCC if you think this is fraudulent. Do not go to the FCC web site provided on this site. Go directly from a web search off this site.
    Good Luck

    Who's the monkey now?
Only a moron would admit to working for CITI, under these circumstances.
Citi has a very nasty reputation for collection abuses.  Think about it,
Mr. Fred...If Citi was straight-up in the first place, why should they hide behind
a fake, contrived phone number? Problem is, that they really do engage in this fraudulent practice
like many other companies and collectors. So-tell me Freddy Boy...Who's hiding now?

    fred-
i know for a fact that this number is with citibank in regards to my radioshack card- of which i paid the balance off several months ago. i have no idea why they continue to call me, i have no balance left to pay- so i looked up the number to be sure and found this thread. if you are indeed with citi you are incredibly unprofessional and if that is the representation you want to make of your company than you are not a respectable or good employee. however- i am not in support of citi so i wish all the crappy employees of the world upon them. everone has the right to their oppinion, and some people on this thread have been very helpful and positive. thank you! and good luck with these phone calls. the best way to deal with them is to answer- directly ask to speak with a supervisor, and deal with the situation.

    Another Annoyed Consumer
I have been receiving calls from this number for a while. They stopped for a while, and have just begun to resume. Having read the previous postings, it's no wonder why so many people will not return any calls they receive that do not leave messages, or worse yet, leave messages which say almost nothing. Most of these posting seem to indicate that this is a number for Citibank. It is a well-known fact that Citibank sponsors such cards as Home Depot, Exxon/Mobil, Sunoco, Shell, and a whole host of others. I would tend to think that if Citibank calls you, regarding a problem with a particular account, they would leave a message which would say something like "this is Citibank calling (your name) in regards to your (type of account (exxon/mobil, sunoco, home depot, shell, etc)) account. please call us at XXX-XXX-XXXX. If a message would mention the account name, and if you don't trust the phone number that the message leaves, you can always call the customer service number listed on the back of the card. Isn't it a shame that the average consumer has to be so urgently careful and possibly operate with the attitude "who's looking to rip me off or screw me today?".
