Same as most of the comments. I do have Verizon for my home and long distance as a bundle package. After reading these posts I called Verizon to see if they showed a past due amount, we are current. The CCA call was a computer generated message with my name added and a reference number. They said it was an urgent and important business matter. It was difficult to understand but I called the number and it rang once then fast busy. Maybe they are closed, but any company that is capable of calling using a computer should be able to at least give us a voicemail system after hours. Must not be that urgent after all, don't really care. If they catch me at home I will enjoy the conversation. Thanks for the posts.

    MCI
This is a legitimate credit agency.  They are very rude and very hard to get a hold of.  They do not give much information regarding anything, but stated I had an outstanding balance with MCI, which has not been my carrier for quite a long time.  They could not give me any information.  I googled the number for MCI and called customer service.  It was MCI's mistake....  I had paid the bill within a week of receiving it and MCI apologized for any inconvenience.  It is a little too late after they fu@k@d up my credit report....

Nonetheless, it is a legitimate credit agency and they are just doing their job, as horrible as it is...

    Irritated
I have just received a call from this number and they left an account number that I had to refer to when calling back.  Nothing more was said in the message to identify who they were.  I called back three times and could never understand the operators when the company name was stated.  They put me on hold immediately after they blurted the name out.  I have no idea who these people are or how they got my number, but I have no current debts and do not give this number out to anyone to call.

These people are calling me at work, I have told them to send me a letter to my home address as they must have my address on file if I owe anything. They are rude and frustrated everytime I tell them I will not give them any info over the phone. They threaten the calls will continue, I told them to knock themselves out, it's their dime.

Got a call from 877-611-1815 and a computer left a message using an incorrect version of my name.  Said it was CCA collection agency and for me to call the number back with a 7 digit reference number.  I called and held for 20 minutes when a minority answered and asked for the reference number.  Asked if it was me using the incorrect name and I said no and she said they can't give me any further information.  THIS IS DEFINITELY A TOTAL SCAM.  I will report it to the FCC.

A recorded voice continues to call at various times of the day and leaves a message for a "Kenneth Bennett."  It says if I continue to listen to the message after a three-second pause, then it is an acknowledgement that I am "Kenneth Bennett," which I am not.  I have have this phone number for almost 12 years and do not owe any debts anywhere.  This is an attempt to scare people, especially an elderly person.  No one answers when I call the number.

Same as others. The caller ID says it is an unknown caller, they leave a message that it is urgent and that I need to call back today. I finally tried awhile back and was on hold for 15 minutes before hanging up. They have been calling for close to a year leaving that message now.

I've gotten all the calls you all describe.  It is very interesting when you read the scores of posts here, all at once, it kind of tells you something.  I don't know what kind of a scam this is but just replying is part of it I'm betting.  I know that sounds weird but read all the posts it is so weird.  BTW I have never called them back.  For one thing at the very least they are confirming who you are.  Perhaps you are being screened for who is "dumb" enough (sorry, I'm not being personal, just putting it into their terminology) to call back, then maybe another call another scheme will collect more info.  The reason I didn't call is that there is no way, No Way, NO WAY you owe money and you haven't received a dunning letter.  Besides, a collection agency would realize that convicting you with the guilt of the name of the company you owe money to will be enough to make a large percentage pay.  Also, think about it, no one gets anybody of significance.  They just want your call back for some strange reason.

Verizon VIOS messed up my bill and then sent me to collections (through CCA) and I initially received a letter.

I finally got Verizon to acknowledge the mistake, but they never followed through to inform CCA.

I just received the following message at my work phone number:

"This is a message for Adam Smith [fake name].  [pause] If you are not Adam Smith, please hang up or disconnect.  [pause] If you are Adam Smith, please continue to listent to this message.  [pause] By continuing to listen to this message, you acknowledge you are Adam Smith.  This is Brook from the office of CCA collection agency.  This is an attempt to collect a debt.  Any information obtained will be used for that purpose.  Please contact me about an important business matter at 1-877-611-1815 x43387.  Thank you."

I received a call this morning 7/9/09 on my cell phone with same message. When I called the number back the call went to someone by the name of Felica!  It sounded like a private number; she said the caller ID said "Sister" and she thought I was her sister!  I'm reporting this to Federal Trade Commission and the Attorney General's office in Maryland.  If this is Verizon calling me, they are out of luck because I'm filing charges against them.  I moved a year ago in May 2008. I moved two blocks from where I was living, yet they said they could not transfer my phone number, but I could keep that number for $21.00 extra per month! Thieves!!! Instead of transferring my DSL, they cancelled it and suspended my Email account.  I went a month without any internet although I was still paying for it. they ran me around in circles; calls went to India (outsourced by Verizon).  When I did get Internet reconnected I was never able to recover 7 years of information in my email account because Verizon suspended my account and would not do one thing about retrieving it which they could have.  I went back into my old records and they had been stealling from me for over five years with charges. I learned all of this because of the problems after i moved because Verizon started charging me for international service which I never had and never ordered; they were charging me an extra $21.00 per month which I never could figure out nor they and they never straightened out my records.  I filed a complaint with Federal Communications Commission and Verizon sent FCC a letter that everything had been resolved, but it hadn't (they lied again). On the letter that Verizon sent to FCC they cc'd me yet they never sent me a copy of that letter.  I got a copy of the letter from FCC.  I then filed a complaint with Maryland Public Service Commission (Utilities).  They had quite a few cases against Verizon for different violations; several filed by the state.  I wanted voice over internet and verizon gave T-Mobile and my a had time and run around about transferring my home number over.  I finally got tired of Verizon and got high speed internet through Comcast and had T-mobile port my home number over.  Once everything was in place I called Verizon and discontinued ALL service with them.  They have been harrassing me with bills of final payment, but I refuse to pay the THEIVES another dime and because I have been a victim of Identify Theft recently, Verizon can't put anything on my Credit Reports.  I have contacted a lawyer and filling legal claims against Verizon for non-service; false charges and lying about problems that they refused to resolved and taking away 7 years of information that I had stored in my email account with them and also blocking me from accessing my account on-line.  But, they didn't know I had copies of all of my past bills for the past 5-7 years!  YES!!!  I am now sending a complaint to the Better Business Bureau! As consumers, we must learn to fight back!
