- Sherri replies to Maryln| 25 repliesMe too. My statue of limitations has ran out and my Trans Union report is clear of any debt and they continue to harass me. Is there anything we can do?
- tobacco_ponyI got a call from 1-877-803-0008 today. So I called them back after I found this page on Google. All I did was give her the # that they called & asked WHAT & for WHOM was the debt for. It was for a person I had no idea who they were. So she is removing my # from the calling list. Will wait & see.....lord help them if they bug me again!

- Blake RiceGot an automated message saying they are trying to collect on a debt. Returned the call and got another recording that led to a full mailbox. We have no outstanding debt, are on the do not call list and have a call blocker for unknown name unknown number. We have a small child and do not appreciate getting calls late at night.

- PeteHave been receiving call from this number and others, belonging to Portfolio Recovery Associates, sometimes as many as two or three per day for several weeks now. It's a collection agency based in VA. I don't owe anyone anything. As others have stated, they will call asking you to call them back. I have never called them back. I talked to my phone company about them, and they referred me to the FCC. Called the FCC and they referred me to the FTC, (Federal Trade Commission) The FTC took my call, and started a case file on them. They need several complaints to take any action, as they will not act on individual complaints. The number to the FTC is: 1-877-3824357. Complaining about these knuckleheads on a web site won't do anything, but getting a government agency involved just may shut them down.

They and their employees should be ashamed of themselves but for sure, the owner of this scamming criminal enterprise has no shame...and he needs to do some serious prison time - someday he will...just a question of when.- Caller: 877-803-0008

- tickedINohioThese people dig old records - even debts that have been paid. They are trying to collect on a credit card bill they say my wife owes, she told me it's long since paid and done since before we were married 10 years ago. It's not on her credit report either. I told them the phone line's in my name and they do not have my permission to keep calling for her; the thug lady with her trashy tone of voice said that they'll keep calling and calling until we pay the alleged debt. She's better off collecting garbage, not on the phone collecting phony debts. Even if the debt were real I wouldn't give her the time of day because she was so nauseating and rude. JP Recovery - I associate them with vomit, canker sores, hangovers, infected toenails and kidney stones. Rude nasty fartwads! Whatever company ever hires them to do their dirty work deserves to go down like Al Capone, or more sauerkraut-and-chicken-fat-indigestion down a toilet.

- tickedINohiothese people keep calling - I received nine calls from them in the last week. They are in violation of 806.5 of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act of 2006. During one call I informed the lady that her company is not permitted to ring my line again and she stated "We're 'gonna keep 'callin and keep 'callin you until you pay 'this debt'." I wish I had recorded her saying that.

in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously
with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass any person at the

- MrMacI have received numerous calls from this number as well as 8007721413. Assume both are from the same company, Portfolio Recovery Associates, as others have identified in their complaints.
As I have learned, if you have a debt that is over four years old, it cannot be collected as the statue of limitations has expired. If someone pays the debt in whole or a agreed lesser amount, your credit report will reflect that action, and it will remain on your report for another seven years. Some of these companies buy the debt from the original creditor even after the debt has exceeded the four year limitation - Vickie McCorkleI get several calls a day from this number, when I answer they do not reply. Once they left a message that they were trying to collect a debt from a person that I have never heard of....I have told them several times that the person they are looking for does not live here. It is getting close to harassment.

- klassensThey keep calling leaving a number that they repeat so fast you can write it down. I've called and was holding for over 11 minutes. I've blocked this number from my phone. Hope they find someone else to bother.....

- MinDtn| 1 replyI wonder if one has done a bankruptcy, that the credit card companies and banks, etc., engage these guys, or sell the debt to them to allow them to harass those who successfully filed the bankruptcy into paying. That would be illegal, of course. Once your lawyer files the initial papers, that's the last time the creditors can contact you.
This is either silly revenge by the banks, etc., or a scam whose perpetrators prey on the unfortunate and the poor among us.
I've been getting calls for over a year, every day, several times a day, and by a rotating series of different phone numbers, most of whom I think are these scammy predatory companies. I ignore all calls I get from unknown numbers. I don't even have my ringer on.
If you have done a bankruptcy, and feel that these calls are stemming from those discharged debts, these companies are to be ignored. Phone contact is not the appropriate, legal, way to try to collect a legitimate debt, anyhow. And there is a statute of limitations on debts that have not been discharged.
So, as many have found out from answering these calls, or worse, being unfortunate enough to actually call them back, you notice they won't give you their name, address, or anything. They will yell at you and be rude as hell, without any sense of propriety or decency ( all ex-cons? crack addicts? or, at best, very sad paralegals? ), but these are not legitimate means of doing any kind of business. If they don't send you a certified mailing via USPS of their desire to collect a debt that you actually owe, with instructions on how to respond and who to contact, in detail, then there is nothing whatsoever behind their [***] attitudes and behaviors on the phone. It must be totally BOGUS!- Caller: PORTFOLIO RECOVERY?

- kjf3961I too have been getting calls from 877-803-0008 for some time now. I have caller ID and everytime I call back I get this male who says he's only a kid and to stop calling his number. I then ask to speak to the parent and he says I'm not the only one calling. I finally couldn't stand it anymore and called Verizon. I'm waiting for their response. My theory is this: Start calling this number at any time of the day or night, just like they do. You are only returning the calls they made. Have caller ID and make sure you write down everytime they call, and then start harrassing them! What's good for the goose is good for the gander!
- Charlie16005This annoying company will never get any money from us, it is an annoying scam.
- Arcane:/At 7:04pm On sun.
I got a call from the number 877-803-0008
The automated voice on the other end said that they were calling about a debt that I had and that I should call back as soon as possible. This clearly wasnt right because I am sixteen years old. How in the world i would have a debt when I dont even have a drivers license is beyond me. So I called up the company and handed the phone to my mother. She, in the nicest way possible, told the recorder that i am underage, and that if they do not put me on the do not call list, she will not only sue the company but the lady on the other end in small claims court.
Thats just kinda rediculous. I do hope they call back though cause we could sure use some money :)- Caller: portfolio recovery associates

- DVI received a call from "Portfolio Associates" about 7 PM Sunday evening; I immediately googled the number and found this site. After a long period of quiet static there was a recorded female voice. She mentions they are located in Norfolk, Virginia. They didn't say who they were calling for. I know I have gotten a couple calls in the past for another person but it was from a different number. This is a cell phone number that I have only had for about fourteen months, and is on a no call list.

- Arkansas Target replies to MinDtnYeah, that's what it has to be with us--we filed bankruptcy that was discharged in 2006, so although we are behind in some bills, NONE have gone into collections. They can't do squat to us, so I'm ignoring them.
- fussy replies to TonyThese same people have been calling now for a year, from various cell phones and 000-000-000 or 111-111-111 #s-it's relentless-they call after 9pm, on Sundays and at 8am in the morning. We don't have any outstanding debt. Sometimes they leave a message--it has been a female voice lately but they used to have a man's voice and it was from a cell phone. We are on the do not call list. We never answer the phone if we don't recognize the caller. If they are so interested in collecting a debt, why don't they use the postal service. It's got to be a scam and I'm afraid they will trip up some vulnerable older person. What can we do to stop them?
