- smart guyThis is a really shady collection agency that will go to any means to collect a debt, or just to speak to you. The debts they are trying to collect are very old debts.

- Wendy replies to Antonio| 2 repliesThe only way to effectively deal with this company is to NOT engage them in conversation. They have already been well established as liars and thieves and will make your life miserable if they can making false claims about your financial business.
The best method of handling their calls is to go to Walmart to the sporting goods department and buy a referee's whistle. They sell them for $2.95. It comes with a handy lanyard that you can conveniently hang on your phone.
When they call (when you are sure by the phone # displayed on their caller ID) simply BLOW THE WHISTLE into the phone as loud as you possibly can.
Continue to use this method until the calls stop. If they don't stop, continue ad nauseam. You owe it to them to be as persistent as they are! - Wendy replies to Sherri| 15 repliesThe only way to effectively deal with this company is to NOT engage them in conversation. I was told that the debt was turned over to them in 2003 and that they had unsucessfully been trying to contact us by mail and phone.
We both denied any correspondance and were confronted by Jerome to write a check for $600.00 without proof of the legitimacy other than his voice on the phone. He used the phrase "step outside and write a check" which was abusive and I took as a threat from him. We were also told "to take a time out" as if were little children needing punishment because of his failure to give me all the facts concerning the situation by explaining to me that he have given them to my wife. So the situation is now at an inpasse, which is why we am writing this complaint.
The statute of limitations comes into play because of 10 years if the debit is legitimate, it is is not a fraud and the fact that neither of us have had any communication on this until today. Also, the name they are referring to is my wife's name before we married. meaning they are using an outdated listing.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery Associates

for what ever reason. - Judge DreddWe get calls twice a week from 1-877-803-0008 on Fri afternoon and Sunday evening from Portfolio Recovery Associates trying to collect a debt which if not ours from 1996. I checked their website they are located at:
120 Hartfield Drive, Norfolk VA
Their website www.portfoliorecovery.com boasts that since 1996 they have bought $29 billion of "conventional" debt for $715m (about 2.5 cents on the dollar) and have a team of call centers and third party collectors try to recover this ancient debt (aggressively and with blatant lies in my experience.)
From their website, Vice President of Conventional Debt Portfolio Acquisitions is Chris Graves call him at 757 961-3515 and let him know what you think of his methods. Alternatively try calling Claire Ardant, Assistant Vice President at 757 961-3537 (I got an answerphone). You can also file a complaint at the FCC.
