- SharonaThey keep calling my cell phone and refuse to stop. I followed the advice from above and filed a report with the FTC
"If the FTC gets enough complaints about this collection agency, they will have to act. Please file a complaint online at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ - I just did!"- Caller: Portfolio Recovery Associates
- Call type: Debt collector
- PatWe get frequent weekly (almost daily) calls from this number. Never a message. We don't pick up for numbers we don't recognize.
- GreggI was getting them for about 2 weeks, first off they were 47 hours apart, then nothing for four days then once a day. I sent off an email to them stating that I wished them to stop calling and that According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), under the FDCPA, a debt collector must honor a written request from you to stop further contact. I told them that if I continued to receive calls I would report them to the FTC, all very formal and polite. I just now got a reply back apologizing for any trouble and promising to remove my number from their list.
I am hoping that is the end of the issue for me.- Caller: Caller: Portfolio Recovery Associates

- John replies to Maryln| 8 repliesHere is a way to run up their phone bill (it is a toll free number so you pay nothing for the phone call) and keep there phones busy and unproductive. First dial *67 (so they can not see your phone number on caller ID), then call their phone number 877-803-0008. Their phone bill goes up and their employees have less time to collect on 17 year old debts!!
- ConsumerSomeone from 877-803-0008 calls about 3 time daily on my fax line so I really do not get to speak to anyone. But, looking at these posts, I see they are a collection agency. Funny thing is...I do not owe anyone anything so why would they be trying to call me. Possibly they are trying to scam people who are in debt who think their debts are being paid by sending money to the collection agency - it could happen.

- JoeThey call my house every Thursday but never leave a message had my phone # for 11 years and i don't owe anyone money..so????
- RufusThis company has been calling my number for more than 4 years now, looking for some cat named Rodney. No matter how many times I tell them I don't know a Rodney, never knew a Rodney and don't care if I ever know a Rodney, they still call. So now, I will call the number back from my fax line and when I finally get someone on the line, I push start so they get a loud fax beep in their ear. It's a little childish, but they obviously can't hear anyway.

When I know it is current and I called TXU and verified it is current. - Marie_W replies to Wendy| 6 repliesI also saw this trick on another website: save their number into your address book on your phone, and assign it the "ringer off" tone. Your phone doesn't ring to bother you, all they get is voicemail. This has made life @ my house much easier. Also, instead of using a whistle in the past I've used a 150 decimal body alarm into the receiver. That works well too. I'm so sick of telling them they have the wrong person/number!
- IN tHE kNOw replies to John| 5 repliesNote: The *67 anonymous caller will NOT work on TOLL FREE numbers. Since *67 is available to anyone, even without caller ID, those who pay for extra services, e.g. toll free numbers, receive extra services such as the number which called the toll free service , including those who dialed *67.
They WILL know who made the call. But just do it ANYWAY!!! - Chelsea| 1 replyThey've been calling my house for over a year. I get a call today asking for my father when I said that he was out of town but would gladly take a message-which is the truth- the man got very rude and yelled " No no thank you! I don't play that game!" then hung up. Pissed me off Im going to file a complaint if I can.

- cheryl from Ohio replies to Maryln| 4 repliesanything over 7 yrs old they can not collect on. they can keep trying but the law is the law. i got this call from gateway that did the same thing. my computer is over 7 yrs old and they were trying to collect that money and then i found out that gateway went out of business.
- tysuThis number calls my house everyday and I have picked up the phone and they say nothing. Time to grow up already...

- Tom replies to JohnThats not true *67 doesn't block a call to a 800 number they are paying so the phone company will not block your number.I repeat do not try that *67 will not work
- stanWhen I receive 877 calls, I first let at least 3 rings go by. This tends to put the call low in the queue for their predictive dialer, in other words there will be a pause when they answer. That's what you're looking for. If no one answers immediately when you answer, it's a bogus call and you can usually quickly hang up before the call is reassigned and answered.

- LandmarkJust got a call. No response on the other end.

- ga362Same story as everyone else. Never give your name instead ask who they are calling for. If it is you, tell them that the person they are looking for has moved. Give them this number: 612-376-5740. It will be busy. Always.

- PitBullWell this is interesting:
My assistant tells me the fax line has been ringing incessantly with nothing coming in. We suspect the fax is having a problem, when on a hunch, I check the call log. FOUR (Well, maybe... read on) Different collection agencies (We've done some research) all on the same day, and in short order. It's likely they got a hot lead on God-knows-who and pounced at the same time.
We did not record the times, but in order they are:
(800) 935-5152 - Allied Interstate
(877) 803-0008 - Portfolio Recovery Associates
(775) 322-0444 - First National Community Bancorp (See the next entry)
(775) 412-4499 - First National Collection Bureau, Inc. (See the same acronym?)
A bit peculiar, but I suppose it is designed that way. - annoyedI get multiple calls from this number daily. They never leave a message. I'm on the National no call list but it doesn't seem to make a difference. This is just getting ridiculous.
