    Really Angry
I got a call from this company this morning for my husband who HAD a US Bank pre-paid bank card (his unemployment check was directly deposited to it).  He switched over to a full checking account and supposedly the bank card was closed.  Somewhere along the line, he incurred a charge that put him at a balance of -$3.  This sat for a couple of months, meanwhile he closed his checking account and went to a different bank because US Bank's service is so horrible.

According to their own policies that are CLEARLY PUBLISHED ON THE BANK STATEMENT, no overdraft fees are charged on negative balances of $9.99 or less.

He received a notice at the end of April that his account would be officially closed and that he would be assessed a $30 fee.  On top of that, they charged him a $4 monthly maintenance fee (of which there are no maintenance fees on this kind of account) for a total of $37.00.

That amount was charged off because my husband neglected to take care of it when I told him to take care of it.

Imagine my absolute surprise to receive a call this morning notifying me that he now owed over $350 to US Bank.

No where in the documentation that I have from US Bank does it say that they will charge more than $37.00.  In fact, it states to pay no more than $37.00 in a letter dated 5/9/12.  Today is 6/15/12.  The woman that contacted us this morning stated that his account continued to be charged $7 PER DAY AFTER HIS ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!

This has be illegal.  I am filing a complaint with the Attorney General.

Just so you know you do not pay for SSI or SSD out of your wages. That comes from what those of us who are collecting it the wages we ourselves worked for and put into SS.

I received a call from Apelles 1-877-825-4490. They are a collection company through US Bank. I had a checking account with US Bank that I closed because I made an automatic online payment with my credit card company and they withdrew the amount twice.  At first I thought someone had gotten my account info, but it turns out my credit card company withdrew a payment for another customer for the same amount.  I closed the checking account thinking that fraudulent activity had taken place.  The bank charged me bank fees and I had a balance due of $292.00 that I had to pay them.  Crazy! I was not going to pay that!  I called Apelles and I spoke with them and I told them that I was only going to be paying $160.  Apelles agreed and I will be paying $160.  Do not bank with US Bank they are the worst bank to bank with.  I switched to Wells Fargo Bank and am glad I did.

    Delicious replies to just saying
Good for you.  It is hard to stand up for yourself when people treat you poorly.  All he is saying is that he is trying to take his power back after being minimized and treated like he does not matter.  This is a person who tried to rectify a situation.  To make the situation worst, he is being judged by those who have little knowledge of his situation.  Mostly, those who are chiming in sound like rebuttals from the collection agency.

This man's refusal to be treated poorly has no bearing on the economy.  His integrity is intact, he was not trying to not pay his debt he was standing up for himself in the only way that he felt that he could.

    Kudos for you!!!

This outfit are debt collectors for US Bank~the worst bank ever to work with. My saga started when US Bank sent out an automatic bill pay twice, in spite of me calling to cancel the second payment, well before the deadline. By sending the payment out twice, it overdrew my account by $5.86, plus the ridiculous overdraft charges that they tacked on every other day. I tried to work with a rep at US Bank and was basically called a liar. By the time US Bank tacked on additional charges, US Bank was trying to collect $260 from me. I went to the branch to try to reason with them, but they wouldn't budge so I closed my account. I only used US Bank on a limited basis for certain bills. I wasn't worried about not having a banking relationship with them since I do most of my banking with a more cooperative bank. I refused to pay the $260.   That's when they turned it over to Apelles. An English speaking automated female leaves a message asking for me on a daily basis. I pay my bills but I'm not paying this one as it was US Bank's mistake.

I got a letter from Apelles that i owe 570.99 first off i never got a letter statement from usbank that i owe 570.99 therefore if i didnt get proof from usbank that i owe that much best believe im not paying it. idk where this amount is coming from. But my checking account has been close for months . I feel like usbank is a ripoff and would not recommed this bank to anyone. And saying the office will obtain verification of the debt or obtain a copy of a judgment and mail me a copy of such judgment or verification . Okay will either way they wont and cant collect money from me noways so doing judgment wouldnt work it would just be a waste of their time therefore im happy they dont have my new number and calling me.

My 'problem' is the same as yours with the exception that I owe no money...my account was charged twice, let the account go because every cent they say I owe is fees, collection agency, like most of the rest of them, is breaking the law by harassing. Looked everything up about how they are allowed to proport their business and they are illegally harassing the 'clients' by threats, hang ups, etc. Also coming online to degrade people who have legitimate complaints and come to a forum to do this is harassment. These people can be very easily tracked and cause their companies to be shutdown. They cannot take money out of your paychecks especially if the courts find out how they have performed their 'business'. I have several being tracked right now...it disgusts me. I will never answer my phone to unfamiliar numbers and never call back numbers that can't leave a voicemail. I am a widow who is disgusted with all these people and am fighting back to shutdown as many of these illegitimate' companies' as possible who will never learn how to act bussinesslike in their dealings with clients!

You are absolutely right. They won't listen to why or how it happened especially when it was not your fault...ignore them...give it a while...you will get a great offer eventually in the mail...don't pay some stupid amount that is mostly their fees...

Called twice from a different number... Called them back, asked to enter the # they attempted to call.  They verified me.  They were collecting on behalf of Huntington Bank on a Checking account of mine that charged off.  I owed $167.00 and they  set me up with 3 payments to pay it off.  I gave them my debit card number to payoff debt. They also offered a settlement for $100.00 but I rather pay the loan off in full.  Looks better on my credit.

From what i can tell, apelles offers collections and other contact center services. they do in fact collect for US BANK over drafted checking accounts. fraud claims do end up in their office, if he member did not meet conditions within set time frames, or the member was actually part of the cause of the fraud. cashing a bogus check from a scam for example. all collections agencies are going to have a few hard nosed employees, because they are typically paid a bonus for on the $'s collected. legislative changes, fines and other punishment does seem to be weeding some of the bad apples out though, generally speaking. if u r actually interested in settling, request a settlement letter from them through email. be sure to meet all conditions outlined in the settlement agreement to ensure the balance is adjusted to 0 after payment, inquire about when it will be reflected on credit reports (or who you would need to contact about that info) and confirm they will issue you a satisfaction notice once the balance is resolved. Also, ask if there will be any tax consequenc related to the adjusted amount and if the balance is time barred for legal pursuit through a court. That is informatrion they have to provide. Record this conversation if you have the ability to do so. the best time to negotiate can 1 pay settlements is if you can immediately pay it off. Biggest reductions can be done at the beginning if a month when 3rd party agencies have room in there aggregates, or at the end of a month as these companies push to meet certain goals. finally, know that some of the people that post in these sites can be angry or disgruntled debtors that have no intention of resolving any of their delinquencies...ever, and will always point the figure at the lender ho mistakenly took the chance on them or allowed them to open an account as a service to them. let me know if there are any questions. i can provide email info privately for further discussion.

Caller never says anything when I answer. Looks like another number to add to the block list. They are trying to collect on a debt that is actually the fault of US Bank or rather their Bill Pay service. The Bill Pay Service paid a bill four times in one day (mortgage), needless to say it cause some serious problems and a lot of checks bounced that day. Yet even after proving that the Bill Pay Service caused the issue, US Bank still wants me to pay for their mistake.
