- pamela sue kingI received a letter from Ascension Point Recovery Services in [***] Rapids, Minnesota regarding a bill that my deceased daughter owed at the time of her death 5/5/2012. I got paperwork within 10 days of her death when a friend of my daughter went to her residence and sent them to me.
I called every company, including GE Capital Retail Bank (Walomart) I explained to them that she was murdered and I didn't believe she had any estate, except an old car (that she was murdered in) and furniture in storage.
They told me that the acct. would be closed and that I need not worry about paying this bill. I did have to file probate in Florida (I live in Maine) and there was a little money in a checking/savings acct. and the only way I could get this was to file probate.
Now 7 1/2 months later they are just sending me a bill. There is no money left except a little life ins. which, I was told, was not an estate and would not be taken from me. They wanted to know if I could pay it, she was 35 and my name was not on the account. When I told them I was disabled and living on SS, they wanted to know if there was anyone else that could pay this. To me this sounds like a scam and I called GE Capital and was told the acct. was closed and not to worry about paying an acct. if I had no estate left.- Caller: AscensionPoint

- Pamelamy daughter passed away due to a murder 5/5/2012. A friend went to her apt. and retrieved all paperwork and sent it to me. I found 7 creditors that she owed and called ALL 5/24/2012, all but one required a copy of her death certificate. I explained that, as far as I knew at that time, she had no estate.
One credit card co. GE Bank/Walmart said she owed $67.42 and THIS CARD would be closed immediately and charged off within 60 days. I got a letter from AscensionPoint in Minnesota stating that she owed $276.78. Just now I called GE Bank to find out why her account, that was closed 5/24/2012 had gone to $276.78. The man said that this was for a new card she had opened up 11/2010 when she had reported the 1st card stolen or lost. He told me to take care of this bill with AscensionPoint. This letter came 7 1/2 months after my daughter's death. I should have been told that she had another card that was open 11/2010 (16 MONTHS BEFORE I CALLED THEM REGARDING MY DAUGHTER'S DEATH) If this 1st card was stolen WHY are there current charges up till her death, WHY was she up to date of payments and most of all WHY wasn't I told about a new card given to her 16 months earlier. I have no money left to pay any bills, after paying for urns, cremation, etc. pertaining to my daughter. I couldn't even get to Florida to get her personal things in storage they were auctioned off 8/2012. I asked why was 1 account closed but the 2nd one, that they should have BEEN AWARE OF, not. Do I have to get a lawyer? What do I do if they threaten legal action? Do I have to take MY personal money out of the bank so they don't freeze my account? Do I ignore this company's threats? I am really worried. My husband says to ignore it, they can't get blood out of a turnip. I am disabled, my husband is retired and we are living on SS. If I had known that they would come after me for this payment, after stating not to worry, I would have paid this somehow back when I got what little money she had in checking. I had to file probate to get this money, otherwise I would not have been able to get her cremated, etc.- Caller: AscensionPoint Recovery Services

- Sparky replies to Texas AttorneyUnbelievable. . . how low can these telephone scammers get? My son got a call from these people today in regards to my mother who recently passed. I decided to check them out on the web before I called back. After reading these posts, I WILL NOT be calling them back. Thanks for the heads up!

- ButchHave received a letter and two phone calls from Ascension Point re: Mother In Laws estate. They refuse to identify name of supposed client seeking to secure debt. Both conversations nebulous without divulging any real info on their part. they name drop probate and specify federal law etc, but when pressed to come up with specifics they refuse to do so. I said this call smells bogus. They say check the Better Business Bureau and I say no, I'll check the attorney generals office. Obviously, this company preys on people or attempts to. they should be shut down and fined.

- Mike replies to Texas AttorneyThe continue to call my daughter about my mother's estate. I suspected this was a scam because mom owed very little and the people that she does owe have gone about legal means of getting repaid. Thank you for your comments and I hope you can put an end to this very sad scam. If i dwell upon it very long I am sure that I would get angry.
- Mike replies to binkyWhat you say might be true but there are legal ways to collect debts for a dead person's estate. When a company goes outside the law to collect, then scam is popular word to use.
- Joke replies to ascension pointSo how much do you make for working for them? Learn a little law and don't preach to people here about paying the debt of a dead person that they are not LEGALLY liable to pay!
- Ruth LeoneThis company has called my home ph# a few times. They leave a message on my answering machine saying that they need to speak to someone regarding the estate of the late Stewart Snyder. Stewart Snyder is not related to me. He was my daughter's father in law several years ago before she divorced the son.

YOU'RE A [removed:lang]. - Ken Faria replies to Texas Attorney| 1 replyI notice that Your email regarding Ascension Point is almost 3 years old but I thought that I would attempt to reply to it anyway since I received a phone call from these folks this morning (888-806-9074) asking if I was authorized to discuss My deceased Son's financial matters (He died March 4th, 2013). I told the lady "no I am not, I am His Father but I am not authorized to discuss any of His matters". She then asked Me if I could tell Her Who could. I replied that I assume His Wife. She asked Me for His Wife's name and I provided it (I didn't suspect that these folks were in on a scam until just now). I believe that these folks obtained My phone number and name from the Court House in Brunswick, OH where I recently ordered a death certificate for My Son. Our phone number is listed in My Wife's name (which also has a different LAST name than mine). I provided that phone number to the Court House in Brunswick when I ordered the death certificate. That is the only source that I can think of where this company would have been able to obtain My name and phone number. Hope this helps somebody.
- U need help replies to YOUR'RE [removed:lang] UPYou must work for these people and are one of the ones who call. What part of the Law do you not understand we are not resonsible for these debts when there is no estate. I just got 3 letters today. I have filed the paperwork required in this state when there are not enough assets to have probate. I won't be responding and will take action if I start getting calls. I have family member in states attorney's office who is guiding the family through the process.
- Jean Bell| 1 replyMy husband died 8/5/12 and since then have received constant calls.,from this company, so much so I asked a friend to call for me and she told them to stop, but they increased. Many times I do not answer my calls, if they are a similar number because they can use others too. For a long time I thought these calls were genuine but then I looked the number up on the internet and discovered it was a scam. I am horrified and disgusted that any company would upset people who are probably grieving so much and have so many problems, difficulties and telephone calls to sort out, it made me feel really ill on top of everything else. There must be some way of stopping this outrage!

So, are you one of the high school graduates, or was that optional? - Cathy replies to BobI got scammed by Assesntion Point today. They called from number 888-896-9074 ext. 4095. Aside from being disgusting taking advantage of grieving families it should be illegal
- MonicaMy sister died a couple of months ago after a decade of illness. She left no estate and had no surviving spouse. If there was an estate to file in probate court I would have done it but there wasn't any. She owed some medical bills to a hospital and a few thousand dollars to Citibank. When I called the hospital about the bills, they asked for a copy of her death certificate to verify that she was deceased and that no will was filed in probate court in our state. Once they did that, THEY WROTE THE LOSS OFF because they have no legal right to collect when no estate exists. However, after I contacted Citibank to report my sister's death, I started getting calls right away from Ascension Point. Like everyone else, they kept asking me to confirm info (I wouldn't) and they themselves wouldn't identify who they were collecting for or what they amount they were seeking. CITIBANK is SCUMBANK. They know darn well, like the hospital, that there is no estate and no spouse and they have no legal right to try to collect from relatives but they sicked Ascension Point on us any way just to make our lives hell at our time of grief. I'm considering taking legal action against both Citi and Ascension Point for the harassment. People die. The banks are insured for such losses on debt due to death but they are just soulless and greedy.
