- Past Ascension Point Employee replies to Jim Jesseph| 1 replyAfter reading all of these comments it really makes me upset many of these people are being given the incorrect information. I worked with Ascension Point for a few years and managed the employees there. Ascension Point is accreditated by the BBB. They handled deceased accounts, as well as student loans. We try to find the personal representative for the deceased person. Many times people leave behind lots of debt, if there is no estate left behind, YOU ARE NO OBLIGATED TO PAY. I've done many call audits on employees and I know for a fact Ascension Point adheres to the FDCPA. They follow the State & Federal rules. The only time you may get a mass amount of phone calls is if you don't answer the phone..because they simply do not know they are dialing the wrong number. Typically once they get the account from the original Creditor, they immediately send out a letter as well as call the phone number on file. So, sometimes you may receive a call, say there is no estate, and then get a letter a few days later. This is not because they are harrassing you. This is because they are obligated to send a letter in writing too. So, if the deceased does not have an estate, simply answer the phone and let the Collector know. If they are not following the guidelines, ask to speak to a manager. If they are still not adhereing to the FDCPA, call the original Creditor. Believe me, I know they are a legit business, they are fair and try to work with everyone and work hard to make the process as painless as possible.
- Spinal replies to JannieSame deal here. Account was closed with a zero balance, yet they claim the estate owes on the account.
- JenniferReceived a call last evening from the same company asking for money for my deceased mother's Capital One card. No assett's so no money. They tried to guilt me into paying it out of respect for my mother.
Nice try idiots...LOL.
P.S.
All this after she's been gone 2 years now. Geez, give it up people.- Caller: Ascension Point

- MNBThere was a voice message, polite caller--Tony Von Hall--at 1-888-806-9074, ext. 4265. He requested a call back from anyone in the household with the authority to discuss the affairs of the recently deceased, late L__W__S___. This gentleman LWS did marry into the family. My ex-husband was the oldest son. I am wondering how they got the number and connection in the first place. I am marking this Call Type as "unknown" because I did not call them back and do not know their purpose.

- Sarsly? replies to BS DetectorI'd rather live in a cardboard box than make money this way. HIGHLY unethical. Anyone who stoops this low for a job should probably rethink their unfortunate life choices.
- Sarsly? replies to Past Ascension Point EmployeeYou're kidding with this crap, right? It's amazing what people will tell themselves in order to line their pockets. While it may not technically be "illegal", the practice is beyond disgusting. The fact that there have been several articles written with something to the effect of "of course the relatives aren't obligated to pay, but if they want to....well, wink wink nudge nudge" makes me want to throw up. VULTURES.... don't kid yourself that this is some upstanding legit business.
- Pam replies to deleted postTechnically a spouse does not owe their deceased spouse's debts. BUT, the debts must come from the estate, if there is enough in the estate to cover them. Are you living in a house or driving a car that was in the deceased person's name? Guess what? That's part of their estate. You may be able to file for a year's spousal support though. Wouldn't work in my case though, because my husband owned some rental property in his name only. Probate requires me to sell some of my husband's property in order to pay off his credit card, medical, legal debts as well as mortgage payments on 2 of the rentals. Credit card cos. know this will take a long time, so they use bill collectors to try to get relatives to pay out of pocket. I am using this to my advantage. I tell them if they will take a settlement of close to 50%, I will pay out of my personal funds.
So far, I've dealt with 3 credit cards, and saved over $2,400. Ascension Point was the collector for Lowe's. By making settlements early on, you may save money. After probate, which can take years, I hear they are likely to only accept the full amount. But I still will have to pay taxes on the full amount owed, so my lawyer says, so I'm not sure how much I will save. - GlenReceived a call from Ascension Point concerning a bill owed by my deceased wife. The bill was from Conoco covering the current amount of her gasoline purchases. I contacted Conoco and was told that the policy of their probate department was to send the current bill directly to a collection agency rather than billing the estate of the deceased. I was expecting a bill for the current amount to arrive in about 2 weeks since I had just paid the last bill in full.
I informed Conoco of my displeasure with their handling of this matter and that this is a really [***] way to treat people.- Caller: Ascension Point

- Widower in TenI just started getting calls from these bottom feeders. They want to collect debts from my estate, only problem is I am not dead. (I have excellent credit) Apparently they saw the obituary for a relative of mine. There is nothing noble of worthwhile this type of preditor, they are just trying to get their hands on your dollars.

- puzzled_no replies to Texas Attorney| 5 repliesOur home phone has had a call each day with the same message and phone number for someone we don't know for sure. We are not liable for anyone but our own responsibilities. I have not and will not return the calls. How do we get them to stop? Do they stop if no reply is made?
- Angelique AlbrittonI am receiving calls about an estate that is of no relation to me. They keep leaving messages on my home phone and will not cease calling me. They keep asking me to call 888-420-2510. When I called the number it just has an automated system that says that the call is very important to hold and then after a few seconds it says goodbye and hangs up.

- janei was getting almost daily calls from "ascension point" i would never answer because i had no idea who it was. the message was always the same, calling regarding a debt for estate of XYZ. problem is i do not know the person they were calling about. i ignored, hoping they would stop calling. they didn't stop. i finally answered to tell them i did not know this person they were calling about. the calls stopped for a short time, but then they started calling me about a different person! another stranger to me. i called them again telling them they already called me about another person and i had already called them to tell them that, now they were calling for a different person. argh! i don't think i have received any more calls from them, however i get daily calls from all different places, some sort of breast cancer place, leukemia lymphoma place, st. jude's, a construction company, sce 'supposedly'...sooo frustrating to get all these nuisance calls daily. and i am on the do not call list!
