Got the same call - first a few months ago, then a follow up phone call today.  Said that someone took a payday loan out in my name and that it was as if I had robbed a bank.  Told me that I'd better 'settle the matter' within the next hour or I'd better have someone in place to watch my children because they were going to take action.

They had me going until they said I to give them a credit or debit card over the phone...um...I don't think so.  Give me something in writing.

someone named veronica masters called my office today and was extremely rude to our receptionist stating that she would need to physically identify me and wanted the physical address due to the nature of the call the receptionist would not give out any information about me and when she refused "veronica" stated that i was in big trouble and i needed to be identified immediately. so the receptionist forwarded it to my voice mail and on the message she stated; that i was a key primary element for questioning, and that i needed to call her or have my attorney call her by the end of the day!

Stated that her name was deloris miller and that i had been identified in an investigation. That it was important that me or my attorney call her back today. She left a number of 1-888-441-4001. When i called back i got someone on the phone. They stated they were the Grease Monkeys. ? No Kidding. They had called earlier this year but when i gave them my correct address and info for them to send proof and all that i never got it.

Update : Called back and was transfered to Sidney Roman of Spellman & Roman.
State that there were actions against me and that she wanted to get my side of it. Well she sated that me and my ex husband would be facing charges if i didn't take care of the money i owed. First when i took out the loan my ex husband was nowhere on my bank account  and i told her that. She proceeded to tell me yeah ok we still can go after him for the money. I had told her that in feb. we had the same discussion and i had told them then that i wanted paper work stating that i owed them so much money. She stated that my bank and sent me notification that i owed money to Arrowhead. Final end out come was that she stated she was going to go ahead with proceeding and that i needed to let my job know that there was going to be a disturbance in the next 30 min.

  Look I got a phone like your at work. At first my co-worker picked up th ephone. They try to get my license plate number from her. Then she just transfered the call to my line. I picked up. She was very forceful, which is ok. Then she got out rude. I owed an online check cash $300.00 that I can not find any more. I told her that I know that I stilled owed $300.00 to one, and ok. I informed her that I wanted to take care of the situation. She then throw out $778.20. I told her I was not able to pay the full amount up front, and if I can call her back after work. She then got reaaly rude and hung up. I called back the number, and she hung up again. By this time I was hopping mad. My co-worker told me I better take care of the situation, so I got back on the phone. I talked to an operator, and inform the woman that I wanted to speak to someone other then the woman that I original spoke with. Then she followed up and of course I was transfer back to the same woman. I try to control my tamper. I then followed to ask what are the extra charges. The woman inform me that my bank, which is a federal runned bank, provided them with a statement that cost $250.00. Then that just got me heated. I told I had to problem paying back what I owed, but I would need 24 hours to come up with the $300.00. I followed this phone call to my husband. He thought that it was odd that the bank would provide a statement like that would out informing me. So I decide to call the bank. They inform that they do not fill out any form that cost $250.00. So then I asked them to provide to me in writing. So then I decide to call back the number, and got the answering machine. The answer machine was not total clear on the name of the company. So then I googled the telephone and find out what everybody else was saying. I felt a little better. So I decided to do a little more research. I live in CA, and I remembered the woman indicting that they were on the East coast. So I got up early in the morning, and called the telephone number. I call the Better Busniess Benuea. They told not to pay a company without a physical address. She then told me that they are not registered in CA. I got a woman that was not exacting me to call. I asked her the spell the name of the company. SPELLMAN & ROMAN. I asked what the address of the company was. 405 Corner Stone, Canck, SC. (I am doing this out of memory. I have it written down at home). I followed by asking how long have they been in business. The woman than start acting differently. She asked why are you asking these questions, I am just a sectary. I procdured to ask how long have you been there. She informed me 18 years, and that the business had been there for 25 years. She said can I ask who you are. I told her that I was a person who they were collecting money from. She immediately transfer me to another person that did not pick up the phone. I called the Better Business in SC. They said that they never heard of them. I immediately called the town of where they are located to see if they have a business license, and found out that address pulls a beatuy store that was closed down. I then called the Better Business, adn told me to file a compliant with them, and make sure that I inform them what I would like to do to reslove the complaint. Then told me to place a complaint with the Cusomer affairs. I plan on perform all the acts today. I hope everyone will plan placing the complaint with me. I will later on when I gwt bacvk to thwe house provide you with all the right information I got for them, and what I have found out about the company.

I got a call today at work from Veronica Mars office and we talked and she plainly stated that a few witnesses were on their way to retrieve my computer at work, take me in, lock me up, who would care of my children, caught me off guard basically that it really scared the heooo out of me.  Humiliating part of this was it showed on my face after I slammed the phone on it's receiver because i asked to fax or mail me something because $1,500.00 is alot of money and I'm not going to pay anything unless I receive something in paper, especially if all i borrowed was 2 $300.00 payday loans.  She basically laughed and said their firm doesn't have time for this because I ought to know that I owe them and should pay.  Well, that's all fine and dandy because I'm trying to take care of all my business, but just couldn't take the threats of "what's your children going to do without you, who is going to take care of your children? and on and on and on..."  I ended up going home within a minute after the call (boss's permission of course) and my boss is the one that called me on my way home and said not to worry because she came in here and did some research for me and found this complaint of which i'm very thankful.  Being a Christian woman who has made many mistakes and trying to deal with them is hard, but with God's help will get them done (paying debts)but this threatening phone call caught me in a very vulnerable state to the point where all kinds of emotions were surfacing (scared, angry, embarrassed, humiliated and finally humbled) because I know God blessed me with a boss who basically looked after me at that time and for that I'm grateful!  I know now that if I ever do a payday loan again, PAY THE DARN THING WHEN I GET THE MEANS!!!.  Just venting due to this phone call because it was one heooo of an experience.

ps...i still intend on paying this loan if i ever get anything in paper on exactly how much i owe without their charges...honestly, they ought to deduct the charges for harrassment :)

"Offices of Veronica Masters" called my place of employment and told the person that answered the phone that it was concerning "an investigation."  When I began speaking with this person, she stated that within twnety minutes there would a "disturbance" at my place of business, she had someone on the line from the State Attorney's office, and I was going to be "identified" as a party involved in misappropriating funds and fraud.  I told her I wasn't able to pay the balance and asked if there was a way to set up payment arrangements.  "I don't know if that's acceptable.  I'll have to transfer you to Winston Law and you can discuss that with him."  I was transferred and Winston Law said that if I could pay half of the balance it would "hold" the case.  I told him I'd be calling Veronica Masters back shortly.  I told her, upon calling back, that Winston Law had suggested a payment of half of the balance and she said she very much doubted he had said any such thing, give her a moment and she would check the recording.

DON"T DO IT!!!!! They are a scam...nothing but a scam! They got my money and the bank is after them now for fraud! I got the same call, left work upset tyring to get the money......then I found this web site. They told me they had been in business for 3 months, but if you read back on some of the other comments..they say they have been around for 18 years! These people are cruel and they will get what's coming to them!!!

Yeah they LOVE the word "disturbance"!!! Got the same call giving me one hour to come up with money or I would be arrested at my job. SHe said "how can you be so irresposable...this is like walking into Walmart and steeling a tv". She kept calling all day telling me I had minutes to resolve the matter...that her "client" was not going to put up with my stalling them. SHe gave me an address of some empty warehouse in Moncks Sc. They are crooks preying off people! The thing is they know ALL your information, your bank, you references that you put down, everything....

i had the same calls they threatened my empolyer that there would be problems .my employer tolsd them i wasnt working and really got masd.i did call back the number 1-888-441-4001-ext 4022  i couldnt  get through when i did they didnt like it when i told them i had my lawyer.i had my lawyer call them. they did not want to tell my lawyer any thing things didnt add up to me then i see this and it makes me sick of what they think they can get away with i wish i knew some one that can help stop them

I received a call like this today as well with a message left on my cell phone as well as at my work. I am a key element in an investigation and it is imperative that I call back as soon as possible. 800-441-4001 ext 4020, Doris Miller. I said I would pay back any debt that I owe, as long as they would send me something for my records. So far, nothing has come thru and I seriously doubt anything will. I will not give them any of my information until they can send me something. I can bet they won't send it thru the mail as they would not want to be charged with mail fraud!!!!

after intensive research i have found out that this company has been around for a long time and they change name. it use to be jackson phillips, state predisposition, and the list goes on. they are actually being sued for 1.3 million by the state of florida. the company is really out of jacksonville fl.  they are crook dont pay them anything ever.

spellman and roman called my work twice. they wanted to verify my social security number! there is no way i'm disclosing that information!

Tuesday Williams & a Jane Spellman they are now located in South Carolina the answering service is at 405 Corner Square Moncas, S.C. they are wanted in Florida, Georgia and now tracked to South Carolina. If everyone would call and stand up to them they could be out of business. ext. are 4031 * 4024 * and 4023 etc. Also they can be put on the Do Not Call list online. It is free to register all your phone numbres including your cellular. Everytime they call it is registered on the list and they go after them legally. Have a great day.

I got a call from Winston Law of Spellman and Roman stating about a loan I had with Ashland Funding that I still owed on, he told me to call a lawyer and that they were going to arrest me the next day......
This is the second time I got this call but it has been awhile...
He told me to call 888-441-4001 but when I looked on my phone the id number is 888-326-3139 neither come up on reverse phone number look up.

I thought something was fishy about the call and so I checked it out and came up with this site.

Voice message left on my answering machine from Jane Spellman...Company name Spellman and Roman...right....my name came up in some investigation...yada, yada, yada...I called her number 888-441-4001 ext 4024...I listened to her voice mail and decided to leave her a message from my "attorney"....advising her that making false statements with the intent to coerce someone into payment for a debt is against the law.
I'm changing my voice mail at home to reflect the following message.
If you are calling from the office of Spellman and Roman, Ruth Russell or any other bogus law firm, we are on to you and your foolishness and you will be reported to the FCC and the Consumer Affairs Divison and any other public office I can find to make these people back off

I received a call from the same number. Has anyone been persued any further by them, like been taken to court like they say will happen. I also looked up their info and couldn't find anything. When I asked if I can get their address, he said hold on a second, then came back on and said "ok now where were we?". So I asked him again. This is what he gave me 405 Corner Square Moncas, S.C. He said it was from 2 companies. He gave me the ammount of 1 but did not know how much the other one was for. That is when I became really suspicious of them.

I got a phone call from Sydney roman- said they were going to throw me and my husband in jail for a loan that wasn't paid. I asked her for a letter or e-mail stating who we owed the money to and she refused and told me I had until 2 pm to come up with the money. I called my  states banking commisioner and they said to get the name and address of the company-I called back and was put on hold a few times but they never would give me any more info-I told her I had talked to the banking commision and she tried to tell me it wasn't a payday loan blah,blah, blah, she then hung up on me for the second time. I will not pay this debt until I get something in writing. I find it not only scary but amusing they think they can scare people into paying a debt they cannot provide proof of!! Ashlet armstrong was another name I got from someone there.

Jane Spellman left threatening messages on my 13 year old daughter's cellphone.  How low can you get.
