Wow... I can't believe they released that kind of information. I am dealing with these people too and doing debt collection myself I know that about everything they are doing is against The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).... Believe me I will be doing everything I can to get these guys.

I received a call from this number today at my old employer which I have not been working for more than 2 years but my sister works there so she told me! the gave her the same bull shi** that I would be arrested and they woulg go look for me there on Monday with the police because they did not belive I did not work there any more! I am glad I found this site otherwise I would of end up paying the [***] too.

So my mother is visiting me in here from another state, she gets a call from a "Veronica Masters" stating she owes $541 now or she would be arrested in the next hour. My mother states she is out of town, and "Veronica" tells her don't lie to her, she is tracing the call from a cell phone tower...and that she will contact that state police and have her escorted back to California and turned over to the State Attorney for prosecution. My mother is scared, I grab the phone and ask who this is and where they are calling from, the say "Spellman and Roman" and that her name is "Veronica Masters from the law offices of Veronica Masters and she represents the State of CA....now, she literally says "C.A" the letters not the "State of California"...who says the State of C.A.???...anyhow, I immediately type in google Veronica Masters and this site comes up, I tell her I am reading this site she turns ugly and says that "you just jeoparidized your mothers federal felony case, by speaking to her about it" she then said "you should be shamed that your mother will be arrested because you interferred"...I laughed and gave the phone back to my mother, who puts her on speaker phone and she tells my mother that "your son just ruined this for you" She hears me reading out loud some of these posts to my mother then this "Veronica" says to my mother, "Tell your son he needs to be quiet that what he is reading is all false" then she says "I'm releasing this case for you to be arrested now..Good luck" then she hung up....my mother calmed down after reading all this...I called them back on my cell phone and when I asked for Veronica Masters, she was suddenly "In hearings" and that I was speaking to her assitant "Jessica"...who suddenly now when I call back there is no Jessica there....they tried to scare me by saying they traced my call and they rattled off my home address...which is an apartment, then she tried to say "The police are on the way to arrest you for harrassment"...I laughed..she said because I called them back they were having me arrested for harrassment, I said "interesting the police department is two blocks from me, what is taking them so long? She hung up on me. I called back, now she was even more rude, and said "You sound like a child with no life, get a life" and hung up, I called back again, She answered and said, "Are you a stalker?" and hung up....I called back again...LOL..."This time I said quickly..."GOOD LUCK"..and hung up on them, then she called my phone from 888-326-3139 and when I answered she said "The police are on the way...GOOD LUCK"..and hung up, I called that number back and it was a fax line...LOL....so each day now for three days I've called them and they are sick of me...Today I called and said "It's been three days now and I am still waiting to be arrested whats the hold up"....Now, I called today and a guy answered playing dumb, saying "why are you calling, how can I help you?, what is your name?...trying to play all nice"...LOL....TURN THE TABLES ON THEM..>THEY DON'T LIKE IT...PLUS,...DOES EVERYONE KNOW THAT THEY GET CHARGED FOR EVERY CALL THEY RECEIVE...ALL 800, 866 and 888 numbers the owner gets charged for the incoming calls....I work for a phone company, I know this for a fact...so each time I call, I know they don't like it because it's costing them!..LOL...losers of a company!!

They said I would have an hour to pay or the police would come. Of course they haven't came. As soon as I said I would like to record the call and pass it on to my state attorney general, they hung up! Before they hung up they said they couldn't give me any written info.

I called a call from my supervisor stating that she got an unusual call from the offices of Veronica Masters.  Of course, i knew it was a bill collector and i was embarassed.  She gave me the number and told me to call and that they said they would come escort out of the building if I didn't call within the hour.  I went outside to call, an operater (I assume) picked up and asked who I needed to speak to.  I said well, I got the message to speak to Veronica Masters.  She looked my name up and transferred me to someone.  A very rude lady, but somehow kept calling me "sweet heart".  She started asking me if I ever got served then tried to verify some information and read me my rights saying that my court hearing for this is this morning and that someone is on their way in 15 mins to escort me off the grounds (Big light bulb came in my head).  I played along saying asking them how can resolve this out of court.  She put me on hold and said she can call the "legal office" (funny because I thought I was talking to them) to see if they would settle this outside of court.  She came back on the phone not even 2 mins later and said "Great news, they want to settle for $610.00"  I was like, "Um, i don't have this money right now, should I go ahead and contact a lawyer?"  She said that a lawyer wouldn't be able to help me.  I told her i couldn't take care of the whole amount now, but would like to settle this debt.  She wasn't having that.  I asked her again how long did i have until they came to get me she said "oh, give them another 5 mins. " I said "okay, well have them come get me because I can't pay for it. " she said Rudely "okay, and hung up on me.  I got back to my desk my supervisor had googled them and found this web page and called me.  I'm so glad I did because I was expecting to put in handcuffs and be taken away.  Is this a legal scared tactic? What can we do? I understand we all have financial difficulties and can't pay back are there laws to protect us though? I'm so glad she found this website because I was really scared.

I had the same thing happen to me today!  A Tuesday Williams called and harrassed my parents and then called me and told me the 'payday' co. wanted blood and would not settle for less than 541. and I had till 2 pm to come up with the money or she would file a deposition and have me arrested.  I was so upset...and when I went online,  I found this website.  I also did some investigating.  The toll free number they give out 888 441 4001 terminates to Aberdeen,  Md.  So when I called back I asked where she was,  I was hastily told some address in SC,  but when asked to repeat she said no,  I should have it all on file.  I told her my lawyer wanted her Bank of America account name and number,  and she told me this offer was off the table and my only choice was debit or credit card. I then spoke with my Mother who advised that they had called my mother in May  asking for my birthdate, address and phone number.  I find this disturbing and very upsetting.  I also filed with my state attorneys office and will followup with the Better Business Bureau in the am.   Wondering what came of your inquiries?

I called again because they tried calling my work 3 times yesterday even after I talked to them the first time.  I spoke to a "Jessica"  she was very, very rude.  She said Mrs. Masters was in a hearing and that should help me.  I asked for documentations she said "no, you should have all that" I told her that I need something stating I owe and what I owe.  She said they no longer have my file it was closed and that the police are going to escort me off the premsis.  I told her I waited yesterday, but no one came. She got really defensive and started saying that No one called me, and that I was crazy.  She hung up on me.  I called again, politely asking for an address or something I can send a check to.  She didn't want to reveal that because obviously by this time she didn't want me to pay this so-called bill.  She hung up again.  We went back and forth three times, and finally she said "Are you bored? Do you need a job?" And told me that she probably made more than me for just sitting here. I told her I knew what her company was all about.  She hung up.  I called back two more times and she kept hanging up.  I just need them to stop calling my work.  Is there anything I can do?

A woman lawyer told me she was extremly rude and hung up on my twice. Said she was pressing charges against me for fraud. I asked her to explain to me what was going on and she told me I was rude and hung up. I called my mom freaking out and she told me to google the number and I found this. When I called back and asked for the name of the lawyer, I got transferred to the same Attorney who again hung up on me.

Make sure you file a complaint with the FTC.  Maybe if enough people complain about these damn people we can get together and sue them and have them pay us!  Don't worry, it's their scared tactic but don't pay them anything until you get something in writing from them.  Which I can gurantee you that they will not supply you with.  So if they don't want to show proof then they really don't want to get paid, and their purpose is not collect the debt, but to harrass us.

Also, the Spellman & Roman domain was registered on March 31, 2008 -- just one week before the Florida Attorney General shut down Ted Ellis Crosby and the Ellis Crosby & Associates scam. My guess is, a consumer demanding a mailing address screws up their scam, so they provide a fake address.  Most often, they will attempt to bully their victims into a payment method that doesn't involve the U.S. Mail, such as a credit card or wire payments via Western Union, MoneyGram, etc.

Okay, so if you paid them off, what is your purpose on this website?  I mean, you must've had a reason to google their number or something to find this site. That's what seems to be how we all ended up here. If you thought they were legit you would've just paid them off (like you said you did) and that would've been it.  So are you working for them? Did you even ask for something in writing that you owe this debt? Maybe you should investigate a little bit further, because you might've been scammed. It's not about owing  someone.  Apparently you were in the same boat most of us was in having to take a payday loan out and having it go to collections.  But there are laws to protect our rights, and these people are violating  them.  All i want is something in writing, an address I can send a MO to, or something.  I am entitled to that, at least.  Considering the fact that this "debt" for me was over 2 years old.
