- LNI also received a call with this number on the caller ID. No message was left, so I called them to find out who they were. The representative answered as "Ascension" and asked me for a reference #; I told her there was no #, just a record of their call. She asked who the deceased was; I explained that there was no deceased person, just the record of their call. I asked what their company did and why they might be calling. She again asked for a reference # and would not tell me what the company does. Finally said she'd have to e-mail to get our phone # removed (stating that they might have a wrong #). When I asked that she do so, she was quite huffy and hung up the phone.

- kjReceived calls from them several times a day beginning EARLY in AM into LATE PM. They want to talk to my deceased brother's executor. They refused to give info and I told them to stop calling, they wouldn't give me info and I won't give them any info except there is no estate or executor. Told them to stop calling my number since my brother did not live at my address and it was NOT his phone #. They continue to call.

- Ms W.My Mom and one of my sisters got a call from Ascension Point asking who handles the finical affairs for the deceased me. My Mother called me obviously upset because she thought something had happened to me. What a slimy low life thing to do. Don't owe any debts, and I'm not dead, so this clearly is a scam. Beware!

- just mereceived several calls from this number - which I didn't answer as I am on the DNC list and didn't recognize the number. Today - received a letter to ME telling me how sorry they are and are offering their deadest condolences for ME! Of course- - they are telling ME I owe them money! Watch out - this outfit is a real scam
- Blow it up their ass!!!They also called me about my mothers unpaid debts, which there are none. I asked the Lady if she could hear me and when she said yes I took my air-horn and blew it right in the phone!!! I guess she will have a few days off now that she can't hear lol!!! A air-horn works great for scammers who seem to not get the message when you asked them to stop calling you!! And not to mention the fun you get to using it on them lol!!!

- AnnoyedI received a call on yesterday from a lady calling herself Casey inquiring on my deceased Uncle. I informed her he was deceased and why are you calling. She stated calling on behalf of CitiBank for an outstanding debt. I told her he has passed in 2006 and so did his bills and do not call me anymore.

- MarJoThis company called my 85 year old legally deaf mother about the finances of my recently deceased mother-in-law. How do they get the information of somebody not related to the deceased. They have no legal rights to call non-relatives of the deceased.
The state of the deceased person would know if there is an estate and who the executor is. They should not be calling random people to try to find out this kind of information.- Caller: AscentionPoint

- Bill| 10 repliesAnyone claiming this is a "scam" is a moron. It's a legitimate agency that collects debts for Citbank and handles probate claims. If your deceased relative doesn't owe the money, then it's a mistake.

- Anonym replies to Bill| 2 repliesNo, Bill your a moron. Probate law is a very specific area of law (complicated when someone dies intestate for sure). There are a multitude of issues here, and your just confusing them with your name calling. If this is a probate claim and they called the bereaved by mistake, that is absolutely, positively tasteless.
For those posting here looking for information, I was suggest a quick call to the attorney you used for the estate. I'm sure she/he would provide a helpful answer as a courtesy since you were a client, and I would follow their guidance - TSTEXGIRL replies to BillThen Citbank should know this already if a person is deceased and if their bills are handled by an executor. These folks are getting calls after the fact and that is sad.
- Sir Bedevere replies to AnonymIf they call the bereaved instead of the executor it's definitely tasteless. But I have a feeling it's not a mistake... Scumbags work in not-so-mysterious ways.
- Resident47 replies to Raven| 2 replies} A legitimate company would first send a letter to the deceased's address.
Phone calls to determine who is the executor or representative of the deceased are not illegal and do not indicate fraud. Sounds like your collector was being compliant and respecting privacy while you decided to act like a jerk. Nothing in your story even hints at how "this company violated every rule in the book" in your specific case.
Stories abound of hostile and illegal practice in the field of decedent debt, which do warrant caution, and FDCPA suits as needed. While a dunning letter is mandated early in a collection process, it is not required as a first contact. Collector calls can be annoying but that perception alone does not make them violative. The context and frequency of calls is what matters.
} keep them on the phone as long as possible. Make their phone call cost them precious time.
Yes, that fifty cents in VOIP fees and employee time will really kill them .... If you want to do some damage, determine a real violation and file suit. Otherwise you've no room to complain. - apologies replies to Dant2590I DO apologize, but I say you win the prize! roflol
- Hates Annoying RoboCallsI got a call from 888-802-9074 asking to speak with the person in charge of a (name I didn't know) relative. They asked met to call the number back, ask for extension 4067 in reference to case # 1409991.

- SonnyMessage was left on my voice mail asking for the person authorized to speak on behalf of my mother's estate. The woman identified herself as Joan Swartz from Ascension Point, phone # 888-806-9074. Even left me a reference # to give when I called back. Mom's been dead for almost 10 years. Didn't owe anyone a dime. I didn't call back. Be interesting to see if they try and contact me again. I'll be checking with my 3 siblings to see if any of them have been contacted.

- Sero replies to DP| 1 replyReceived the exact same vague letter with the same information and Christina Mallen. My mother is concerned but knows there is no outstanding debt in my fathers name. She contacted me to look into it. I assume it is a scam....I won't be calling the number.
- TIGGERReceived a call from Ascension Point asking who was handling the estate of my deceased brother. I didn't know that my brother was deceased. Imagine my surprise. They wanted me to verify personal information which I did not. My brother is alive & kicking. What a scam.

- TIGGER replies to BillDo you think is't right for them to tell someone that a relative is dead that is not DEAD?
- Marilyn replies to SeroThese people are low-life scum. I don't know how they can get dressed to go to work in the morning after having to look at themselves in the mirror. They contacted me expressing their condolences on the death of my husband, then wanted to know about his estate. They called a whole lot and I finally told them I did not want to talk to them anymore. I had read all about them on the Internet. I think they got my husband's name from the creditcard company. I had asked the creditcard company many times to take his name off the account. I attempted to use the credit card twice and it was declined - when I called to find out what the problem was they said another division of our company is handling your account now. We will transfer you to them. They transferred me and the person who answered the phone answered as Ascension Point Recovery Services.
The credit card company was AT&T Universal Card. I have written to all three credit bureaus telling them what happened. My account with this creditcard company was uptodate, so I guess AT&T Universal/CitiBank owns this AscensionPoint Recovery Services. My husband was quite ill before he died and did not leave the house on his own for over a year, so I know he did not owe any money to anyone. These people are just scam artists. It is unbelievable they could call or write to people who are in grief trying to extract money. - Marilyn replies to BillBill it is a scam if you don't owe CitiBank any money and they are trying to collect money from you that is not owed. I have reported them to all three credit bureaus and asked the bureaus to put an alert on my account. Anyone who is lowlife enough to try to collect money that is not owed from bereaved relatives. I think they are not always legal.
