- scared my mother to death replies to kelsey'smom| 3 repliesMy mother received a message on her home phone from a pastor? somebody, left this toll free number and said how sorry they were about the death of "my mother's name!" She went into a screaming fit, saying who would be so cruel. Obviously, what I'm saying is my mother is alive and received a message about her own death. I called back and they said they assisted clients with estate and probates. I said, my mother was alive and they ought to posess a death certificate with absolute verification before they call elderly people with this frightening, incorrect information. I asked who their client was and he said he could not divulge this information, but that he would pass this info back to them so they could research it further?*?!?* Ridiculous. What's so strange is they leave legitimate phone numbers and have a Better Business Rating.
- ldp54Have received multi calls saying my recently deceased husband left an unpaid debt. Told them nothing like that exists. They continued to call and I stopped answering when I saw this number. Finally one day I answered and asked for the caller's supervisor. I told her the same thing and that she worked for a scamming outfit. She insisted that was not true - they were a legitimate company. I gave her my attorney's name and phone # and then called him and told him about the calls. He mentioned the State Attorney General to her.
Before I hung up I told the operator that when she got home that night - I wanted her to Google this phone number and read the miles of complaints registered about her legitimate company. Or she could Google the company name and scroll down to this number and see what she finds. Hope she did so.
I also emailed all of our relatives whose names appeared in my husband's obituary and told them about the whole thing. I'm afraid this company collects names from death notices. The day after I notified my attorney - I received a letter signed by Christina Mallen asking me to please contact her. I saved the letter but did not follow through.
I noticed in these 4 pages of complaints - that a Citibank connection is mentioned quite a few times and I never had a problem until I officially notified them of his death and cancelled that card.
My attorney told me they plan on filing a claim against the estate. He told them to go ahead. We'll see what happens.- Caller: Ascension Point Recovery Services, LLC

- JanetMy stepmother recently died and this number called trying to find out 'who handled her affairs.' They were so clueless about POA survivership and executionerships that they quit talking to me the moment I began asking questions about what they meant. I got the distinct impression that it was some kind of collection scam.
- Lisa M.Total scam artists. My father died 15 years ago, and some creditor has suddenly discovered it and is hounding my 85-year-old mother as if it just happened! She lives with us and is on a fixed income but always pays her bills, and she is obviously distraught by someone acting as though she's in arrears and owes money due to my father's "recent death." It's disgusting -- clearly, these people prey on the elderly and should be stopped!

- CarolynPretty sure this is a scam. My father passed recently, did not have debts. These people will stand before Jesus one day...

- G JonesMy mother received a call from this number and the person identified herself as Christine. She said she needed to reach the person responsible for my father's estate about outstanding debts. I'm confident that the company and individual are attempting to take advantage of mother in her grief. Don't be fooled.

- Had Enough!Get calls continuously from this number. I have no idea who they are. I'm assuming it's a scam as they never leave a msg. If it was legit they would leave a msg or e-mail us (if it's an issue with one of our accounts). SO annoying!
- J| 1 replyTo the best of my knowledge - this is NOT a scam, but rather a debt collection agency for Citibank credit card. I'm helping someone who is receiving these calls/correspondence. Two years ago at my dad's passing I dealt with the same thing. Credit card companies constantly scrubbed lists to determine if there are open credit cards of deceased people. Even tho loved ones maybe don't have any 'creditors' they could have a balance due to credit cards companies that hadn't been billed yet and if the cards have been cancelled, then the cc companies no longer take care of it...they hire companies like Ascencion...it is odd how/who they contact sometimes...and quite eery on how they know.........but I'm pretty sure it's legit.......they probably have very specific training on how to handle people thinking it's a scam....it would be a touch job

- s replies to Billmoron says WHAT?
- Sir Bedevere replies to J"J", you should read the thread before posting that it's not a scam. They've been trying to collect "debt" from people who have been dead for 15 years and people who had no debts. They contact relatives of the deceased rather than the executor and do it often enough that it's unlikely to be by mistake. This is clearly not a legitimate operation.
- Cheryl replies to BillThis is a HUGE scam. They can't give you any info when they are trying to get your money. Bill you are seriously delusional if you think it is legit.
- Nita replies to maryI received a call today re: my "late" niece that has been deceased for 3 months from Ascencion Point stating it was regarding a financial matter and that they wanted to speak with someone in authority over her affairs. I know she was not in debt so she couldn't possibly owe anything. The number was 888 806-9074 Ext. 3722
- Jan McDonaldRecieved a message on my answering machine as follows:

- Pimmie replies to DPI too received a letter with the same phone numbers. I don't plan on calling these vultures back. I thank everyone for their comments and I also believe it is a SCAM. I will never understand how people like this sleep at night!!
- AnonymThis is the second one of these sleezebucket companies that's sent vague letters 'we would like to express our condolences [..] have the person responsible for estate contact us'. so I called them up. I was less kind to this one because he had an indian accent. I gave him my father's attorney's name and told him good luck getting money out of a jewish lawyer.

- Julie| 1 replyReceived a call from this number regarding an outstanding bill for my deceased step mother. Does anyone know how I can file a complaint against this company? Or if there is anyone I can file a claim with regarding this company? I know it's a scam...there is NOT way my step mother or father have an outstanding bill of $152. Really????

- Bob's relative| 1 replyAscension called from 888-806-9074 at 9 am saying they knew about Bob's death and that he owed them money. I asked them how much and they wouldn't tell me. They wanted all of my or the executor's info first. So I told them, 'Hey you woke me up. You can call back later." That me gave the chance to research them and find out they were scammers. So I called them back and when they told me the call was being recorded I told them I am recording it too. The rep instantly transferred me to a 'manager'. I told the manager that she and all the rest there need to be [***] in the ass with a 14" strap on for being snakes and vipers.
