I had dealings with Mr. Hazel and Mr. Blow my Sargent today.  Stating the same thing for National and Zippy Cash I do owe money to I called both these companies and they have actually pulled this company for dealing with customers since many had been complaining about the abuse.  He tried to threaten me with the police and said that he would take my child away from me.  I laughed in his face, I said if my ex wife can't get cutsody what makes him so sure.  He got sour and hung up, I call back and it got forward to Mr.  I am cool Sargent which sounded exactly like Mr. I am not cool Hazel.  I was messing with them and they got annoyed.  I have faxed them to leave me alone and not to contact me or anyone I am associated with and if they do I would file harrassment charges with them

Lets see if this works/

I'm from Ontario as well and a friend of mine has yet another similar story to the thousands on here and luckily was smart enough to look it up on the net to find out it was a total SCAM!! Except for the fact that the jerks name isnt Mr Sargent or Hazel..he uses Mr.Classen, and if you ever do ask for any other name given they put you through to that person who sounds exactly like the one you just finished talking to.  

They have made threatening calls to her workplace, home and other family members and  I really don't understand after trying to phone local authorities, newspapers and other places to report these people HOW they are still getting away with it?? I'm suprised nothing is being done at all and people are still endlessly still writing about this and how to ACTUALLY get something done!!

Simple answer to all of this:

  "nothing is free in this world, Pay your Bills!"

I got a call this morning from a man saying he was with Paul Kupferstein (sounds like Cooperstein) & Assc. He did not give his own name. The phone # that came up was 1 905 474 3535 & call display simply read "Law Office". He asked for me by name & then he said that he wanted to speak to my son as there was a lawsuit pending against him. I asked him what it was in regards to & he said he "couldn't say as he didn't have permission" from my son. I asked him to please hold & then I went upstairs to speak to my husband about this call. When my husband (who is NOT the person this man was looking for) took the call the guy had hung-up. In the meantime I Googled Paul Cooperstein & Assc. & learned all kinds of interesting things about them including the correct spelling; the number one thing being that this is a scam! I'll be sure to pass on this info to everyone I know. Todays date is March 24 2008 & these scam artists are active in my community & Southern Ontario so.....beware. I'm sure they operate all over North America.

Sure, no prob.  Just send over those papers you promised back in October, you know, when the "sheriffs were coming to my address at..."  Still waiting....still waiting....

So many consistancies to everyone's stories........incredible that this still happens. After reading some cases above, I do understand that fear is powerful. Educate yourself..........we have laws and privacy compliances. Never hand over money to anyone without proof. If you do owe money ask for a debt verification letter, name of the debtor, account number and amount. Chances are you won't receive one because they are unlicensed.

It's so glib for people above to advise us to just pay our bills! Why assume these debts are ours? I am being harrassed because a colleague from 10 years used me as a reference for a payday loan? Which one are you Kiki? Mr. David or Mr. Sargent. Misrepresentation..............big word eh!

So I called them back and was advised that Mr. David was out until Friday.
After googling this number and contacting a real lawyer I became infuriated and decided to let the Law Associates know. I called every five minutes for three hours until the rude secretary finally put me through to Linda.
She was the one that finally disclosed why they were calling me. Imagine how furious I was to learn that this has nothing to do with me. I then advised Linda to cease in contacting me. Linda was still cackling like a [***] chicken when I hung up.

The other real issue here is that my personal information was sold and I had no say in the transaction.

Call, email and tell everyone you know about these crooks.

And laff having the piece of mind knowing that there actually is a job lower than removing genital warts off the [***] of a donkey!

Mr. David, Mr. Classen, Mr. Hazel and Mr. Sargent are a figment of two peoples imaginations. Then they have a secretary with one foul mouth and finally Linda. Not sure if Linda has alias' yet! These are four little peon losers that work out of a shack in Markham. I had a nice long chat with a Lawyer from Upper Canada law firm and they advised me of their investigation. It is pretty hard to get tangible proof because Mr.David knows as soon as they send out a letter, the RCMP will press charges because they are unlicensed and perform illegal activities.

They probably won't pursue you legally because they can't. What they do is buy debt from less than reputable vendors. Their niche appears to be Payday loan companies and false 900 numbers on phone bills. They purchase this debt, which is often not accurate as most debt has either been written off or paid back. Then they start with the phone calls. Know that it is illegal for a company to harass you at work and jepordize your income. We have privacy compliances and while they can call and ask friends or family for a contact number, they cannot disclose the nature of the call.

In my case, I am a third party that was a reference for someone I haven't spoken to in years. They started calling me at work. I had a brief but candid conversation with Linda and hope this has been resolved. Otherwise I will need to pursue this further.

They will move on down the list until the scare someone else enough that they will pay. They cannot inflate your debt either. If you owe $300, you don not need to send a MO for $500. What court cost or lawyer fees have occurred? They paid $20 bucks for that $300 debt from somewhere just to get your number and start harrassing you.

The media has done several stories on similar situations. Consumer should always be aware and should always educate themselves whenever possible.

Indimidation and Bullies are not always found in the school yard!

My Husband received a call from Miss Mercedez at Paul Kuperstein & Associates Law Office.  She left many threatening messages that his sister used him as a reference and that it's in HIS best interest to call them back and get the matter cleared up.  She also mentioned that there was a legal investigation in progress.  The message seemed strange to me because she gave out a lot of information that regualr collection agencies know they cannot disclose to strangers.  It also set off a red flag that she was trying to collect a debt from a reference person.  I know he didn't c0-sign on anything so this is definitely a scam!!!  Thanks to finding this site I know we did the right thing by warning my sister-in-law about this scam before she was silly enough to pay these scammers $$$

My call came from a gentleman named Mr. Hazel.He had been repeatedly calling my 80 year old grandmother, about a "legal matter" pertaining to my brother. I told her to give him my information as my brother is serving in the war and I am looking after his financial matters. This gentleman, and I use that term loosely, did not want to disclose any information to me even after I advised him that I was the only one who could help him resolve any outstanding debts incurred by my brother. I politely asked him to direct any future correspondence to me as my grandmother could not help him in resolving this matter. He was very rude and told me that the law permitted him to keep calling and harrassing my grandmother and as a matter of fact he would call her right now. My grandmother does not need this aggravation and I am worried that this could cause her a heart attack as she already is worried sick about his well being. I told Mr. Hazel that he could call me 3 times a day if he'd please but not to bother her again. He did not seem very interested in solving this dispute but in fact seemed more interested in pissing me off. I was more than willing to pay any outtanding debts but feel now that he is trying to take me for a sucker. Can anyone direct me on what further action within the law to take, not only to protect my grandmother but my brothers credit as well.

I received a call from this number / Mr. Hazel.  He used only my first name, and informed me that he was trying to get in touch with my father about an 'important legal matter'.  He told me my father had left my number with him, in case they needed to get hold of him in an emergency.  He simply asked if I was still speaking with my father, and could I pass the message along to him.

Now, when I spoke to my father, he said he had never received any messages from this caller - I thought this very strange, because Mr. Hazel indicated that they had been trying for quite some time to get in touch with him....

Thanks to this website, for having all these postings and putting our minds at ease... I'd love to know how Mr. Hazel got my phone number... I thought we had laws against this (my surname is different from my father's).

My daughter was contacted by Mr. Sargent The Law Office with the address of 7270 Woodbine Ave. Ste. 203 Markham On Phone (905)474-3535 about an outstanding bill with Bell Canada.  Mr. Sargent informed her that her bank accounts would be frozen and she would be served with court papers by noon on Apr.10...well its 2:30 p.m and no papers and no freeze on my accounts. She called the police and they were also no help.

I then looked them up in the BBB finding out there have been 31 complaints against this company in the last 36 months.  These people have no regard for the laws that govern debt recovery.  To understand your rights as a debtor google Fair Debt Collection Law. You can also complain to The Law Society of Upper Canada at isuc.on.ca.

Mrs. Mercedes called and said I was given as a reference for my sister and that gave a case number.  She said to call back ASAP, as it was in my best interests and if I wanted to avoid a law suit I should call 905-474-3535.  I wasn't home, so when I heard the call I called the number and a man answered with simply "Law Office".  I gave him the particulars and he said she had left for the day and took down my name and phone number.  I was so shook up.  I should have smelled a scam.  My husband was suspicious immediately.  I went on the internet this morning and found out that I am not alone.

If you are in Canada you can simply call the police. The RCMP have a file and can log complaints.

Reputable collections agenicies comply with the law and the CRTC.

You can also advise them to stop harassing you and let them know you have been in contact with a lawyer.

This usually works and they should cease.

Do you know how difficult it is for the government to legally freeze you accounts? There is a legal process for this and scammings collection companies do not have the capacity to freeze accounts. In Canada, we get served to appear in court by an Officer of the court!

My boyfriends phone rang yesterday around 5pm and he got me to answer it just because it was a 905 number and i live in that area he does not. i answered and a man asked for my boyfriends sister i told them she wasnt home she really wasnt she was at work....i was told to have her call Mr. Klassen/Classen at The Lawyers Office and the phone number was 905 474 3535 and he also gave me a case number. I asked if she new what this matter was about and he said no she will not know what its about but she needs to call me ASAP its a very important matter that needs to be resolved. I told my boyfriend and we looked up the phone number and the name The lawyers office up on the internet and we saw all the stories bout that phone number being a scam. We got the call again today so i answered and i pretended to be the sister and i asked mr klassen if he had a last name of the person he was lookin for he said no i do not but u were put on here as a reference by a mr J R  Donna or somethin like that from 22 Willowridge in Toronto. I told him no and i asked what reference and he wouldnt tell me. I told him he had the wrong person and he apologized and got off the phone . I saw some other stories on here and they actually gave ppl their address to send money to and its at 7270 Woodbine ave in markham. The only thing i know in that area is a Shoeless Joes. They say thet cant send any documentation and they want money right away but what i want to know is how do they get ppl's phone numbers and know who they are lookin for??? like how did they know my bfs sisters name when he JUST got that phone number and phone 2 weeks ago and her name isnt on any of it? its just really screwed up and these ppl need to get a life...i also see that from reports on here i have seen one case be a 2008 case..maybe some ppl just dont relize and they are probably gettin tons of money cuz some ppl arent smart to check up [***]. So if you do get a phone call from a mr klassen or how ever he spells it from the lawyers office they are tryin to scarm you. when you call the number back they even just answer it as hello not like a normal legal place....its some punks just tryin to get money and i bet they are ...just laugh at them and tell them to [***] and u already know who they are
