Same as the other number from Oregon, (971-217-9538).  DO NOT ANSWER IT.  It seems to be a reverse telemarketing tactic.  Once you answer it, they assume it is OK to keep calling you and they WILL keep calling.

Just received a missed call from this number and no voice mail.  I make it a rule to not answer any number I don't recognize - especially long distance.

why am I getting these?  This is the third time in three days!  Even if I answer it doesn't mean I want them to keep calling.  But since this is a machine I cannot say "stop calling me and remove me from whatever list you have me on!"

Just like other posts - incoming call from unknown number. Didn't answer and no message was left. I'm like others above, generally do not answer calls from numbers not saved in cell phone directory. If it was anything important, they will leave a message then I can update my phone directory once I know who it is. For persistent calls with numbers I know don't belong to anyone that I know, I make an phone directory entry called "SPAM" and record the number. Then caller ID shows the entry name and I know I can ignore it.

This is an automated message from "john" of political opinions survey.. They claim that by participating in a 30 second survey, that you will be rewarded with a cruise.. Sounds like a scam if you ask me.. Anyway, the prompts at the end are "press 1 to take the survey" and "press 9 to decline and to have your number permanently removed from our call list" ..obviously I hit 9.. I'll let ou guys know if they call again

It was a 3 question generic political survey with the promise of a free cruise.  I took the survey and was then connected to a travel agent that gave me a long talk about how wonderful cruising is and that all I had to do to receive my free cruise voucher was to pay the port tax and fees totally roughly $50 per person over the phone.  I declined.

Received call from this number at 9:35 AM CST.  Didn't recognize the number so I didn't answer (as has become a habit now due to the high number of scammers).  Will be reporting this number to the the DNC registery.  I advise you do so as well, so they can launch an investigation.  I will be referencing this website.

Enough critical mass and maybe they'll be shut down!

Received a call from them and didn't answer. On the DNC registry, it states "The National Do Not Call Registry does not limit calls by political organizations, charities, or telephone surveyors." So if they operate under the guise of politics or survey, they aren't breaking the law. Unfortunate for us ...

Folks, if you don't recognize the number, simply don't answer it. These scammers are usually located outside the US using stolen credit cards to purchase VOIP technology and legitimate phone numbers within the US, then spoofing their number to appear from a legitimate political survey phone number (or any phone number they choose). The bait: they promise a 'free cruise' at the end of the survey by answering some questions meant to throw you off their MO. The catch: at the end of the call, they are going to ask you for your credit card information to pay for the (supposedly free?) 'port taxes'...
The outcome: answering your phone when they called provides them a win/win scenario. They will make money reselling your phone number as a 'legitimate working live number to hundreds of other data mining companies, so you can now expect those types of calls to only increase, and more importantly, they will steal whatever personal information that you happen to provide them over the phone including access to your bank or credit card information. They can also turn around and contact your bank or credit card company spoofing your own phone number!
If everyone wised up and stopped answering calls from unknown numbers, these scammers would have to move on because they wouldn't make any money. Keep in mind, for the little amount of startup funding and effort on their part, for every hundred thousand phone numbers they robo-dialed, if just 1% of victims provide them personal information, then it's worth it to the scammers.
