fraud\scam or good service??

    screwed over
I made payments  for two years to these fraudsters (S & L and later Cockburn and Associate, they pronounce it Coburn). After they took half my payments for fees (admin and maintenance) they managed to pay off 1 of 3 creditors (about 70% of total). They promised; calls to stop, setllements to be far less than what I would pay on my own etc. I had six months left on my contract when I finally realized that the remaining two creditors would never be paid on time. After numerous attempts with phone calls and emails that went  unanswered I had enough. I sent them a registered letter indicating that I was revoking my contract. I put stop payments from my bank account.
Within seven business days I spoke with my other two creditors (collection agencies by this time) and settled both accounts for less that 50%. I never thought I could deal with these people. Fortunately I was able to.
I will now have all accounts paid within four months. Watch who you deal with is all I can say. Imagine the money these thieves have made. If you are early in your contract get out. Face your collectors head on and get it done now. Prolonging the situation only adds to the dilemma and chaos.
You will feel better. We can't change our past but we can have a say in our future.

A trustee can and will only file a bankruptcy for you.  How is that a better idea?  Not for Profit companies represent your creditors and collectors and NOT you.  They also typically make 15% commissions.  How is that better?  Not good that you had a bad experience with this company but telling people to file bankruptcy or a consumer proposal is like telling someone to amputate their arm because of an elbow scrape.

Its is funny I am reading all these so called complaints and I have been enrolled with Cockburn and associate for a year now and 3 of my 7 debts have been settled. Everything they told me that was going to happen did. They explained everything to me. I knew they do not contact creditors right away and that my credit would take a hit but I needed to get help I was drowning quickly I enrolled in an 18 month program and am almost done. My credit has been updated on the settled accounts to read paid as agreed  as they said it would. They have been very attentive to all my needs and have been very forthright and upfront about the whole process. I have referred many people to them as well and they are seeing good results too. So I think that most of these people did not listen or understand the whole process of how it works . Yes the calls are annoying but I am almost debt free thanks to them. For the few complaints that they have they have many satisfied clients like myself. They deserve a fair sake as do we all.

I detect the stench of "employee discount" LOL.

This site sure must be working well, considering how often you crooks feel the need to post on here. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Oh yes. You're so happy with their "services" that you decided to Google their phone number. Everyone does that, right? Erm, wrong. Only victims and shills do that. You certainly aren't the former...

Yup, buyer beware. We have been paying for two years. Cant get answers, cant get a hold of anyone, they do NOT deal with your creditors, you will never be done with the collections, the calls, the emails. We just had someone call from the office asking if we wanted to sign up, as we owe $24000. Wtf?! We are already signed up and that was the balance back in the spring. Where have our payments been going? We have put a hold on our bank account and are investigating. We will work out how to pay this off ourselves, and if they threaten you with 'its a legal document' say, "Really? I will be phoning the Better Business Bureau about this, as well as my other lawer!" You will not hear anything more.

I met with Silverthorne and he was very defensive -- very volatile and insecure -- lacking in confidence like someone at the bottom of their field. I would say that he was rude but that's synonymous with "lawyer," right? I would have liked to ask him some legal questions, but frankly I would doubt the veracity of his replies as he was so zealously black and white, and not at all recognizing the myriad flexibilities afforded by the law, by different approaches to the law and of course, afforded by judges in their authority. Although black and white is an attitude synonymous with lawyers too, Silverthorne was over the top. Only lawyers at the top of their field mentally will afford to educate, humor and even theorize with their clients. The rest are impatient mercenaries, so shop around.

Folks… let me paint for you what I see as the big picture.
I have read each and every post thoroughly…

My name is Mike Reilly and I am the Director of Operations for the Negotiation and Settlement department that services the Law Office of Cockburn and Associate.

    Here’s what I see;

Total number of unique screen names 106
    Total posts to date 207
40.5% or 84 posts came from 12 screen names (I find that interesting)
34.7% or 73 posts were single posts made by 73 screen names other than those above (one comment and gone)
The remaining 50 posts came from 21 additional screen names who posted 2 but no more than 3 comments.
How many of the 106 screen names were or are actual clients?

There’s no way anyone could make me believe that all 106 unique screen names were at some point clients of Silverthorn and Lupolover Lawyers or Cockburn and Associate. Would someone venture to guess how many of these screen names are or were actual clients of either firm?

Point being, this group while important to me (and I hope at some point to speak to each and every one of you, some I know I have already ) is relatively small when compared to the thousands we service. In fact, it represents less than 0.050% (half of one percent) of all clients at Cockburn and Associate.

I would like to ask everyone reading to reserve comment for a few days and allow me to tell it the way I know it… after all, I live it… so who better to hear it from? After a few nights of my postings I would be more than willing to take questions…fair enough?

FYI – BBB Rating now updated

I smell a nasty little shill in your post!

And there's that tired old line (again) of "were at some point clients of Silverthorn and Lupolover Lawyers or Cockburn and Associate" ... guess again bozo!

Your pathetic attempt failed! I'm more than certain not one of us here posting hs ever been a client of Cockburn and Associates! That includes myself! NOT ONCE!!! Now go take a hike, get lost and stay lost! No one here is buying any of your load of bull!!!

I couldn't resist... I had to look after my long drive home and sure enough...I struck a nerve!

Not what I intended to do. I am who I say I am, go to the clegal.ca site and call any of the contact numbers tomorrow morning and ask for the Director of Operations... When I answer you'll know I speak the truth.

Shill you say, I simply stated facts all of which I can back up, how about you. Why hide behind a screen name tell us all who you are?  If in fact you were an actual client (either firm) maybe I can help you.

    Best regards,
    Mike

"tell us all who you are?  If in fact you were an actual client (either firm) maybe I can help you."

Who the hell are you kidding? Disclose something like that on an open/public message board? Gawd! Are you nuts? Ever hear of too much information (TMI)? And, unless you missed it, NO! I was never a client of yours … and NO I wouldn't want your so called help either! No debt! No one owed! No past due anything! No need!

And yes, you are a shill! Spamming this thread in an effort to make yourself and your 'agency' seem like such a good 'company' after others have posted contrary to that!

Shill: (definition 2) to act as a spokesperson or promoter

    Also:
A "plant" and "stooge" more commonly refer to any person who is secretly in league with another person or organization while pretending to be neutral or actually a part of the organization he is planted in

… also be used pejoratively to describe a critic who appears either all-too-eager to heap glowing praise upon mediocre offerings, or who acts as an apologist for glaring flaws. In this sense, the critic would be an implicit shill for the industry at large, possibly because his income is tied to its prosperity."

You're speaking favorably about something you have a vested interest in! Smells like shill to me!!!

And Cockburn & Associates  DOES have some interesting complaints against them (but only a few below):

Ok, so you've made it very clear you were never a client...perfect!

Then you must be one of the following

    1. A consumer advocate
    2. A recovery agent (collection company)
    3. A forma (disgruntled) employee
    4. A competitor

I don't believe you're a consumer advocate because if you were you would have allowed me the few days I've requested to lay out the big picture by spilling my guts in this open forum before making these baseless comments so, I think we can all rule that one out.

That leaves exactly what I suspected. Unless you can give us/me something more than the definition of "shill" your agenda on this board is clear and you will have.....

    Dismissed yourself!

Geez! You are soooo way off!!! And are a total fool to think that I or anyone else here could be either a client, consumer advocate, recovery agent, a formaL employee or a competitor!

What sandbox did you flunk out of?

Nice try but three strikes and you're out, shill!!!

All anyone here can see you doing is making a bigger fool of yourself each time!!!

Dismiss myself? But it is YOU who should dismiss YOURSELF from spamming this thread with your shill posts!!! Like I originally said ... take a hike, get lost and stay that way, moron!!!
