I wish that these people would die of the most horrific and painful thing possible!

After harrassing my elderly mother over the phone and tricking her into divulging her credit card numbers, they proceeded to run up their charges ON THE VERY CARD THEY PROPOSED TO HELP CLEAR UP!!!!

All this happened, even though they never had ANY written permission to do anything!

THIEVES LIARS AND SCUM LIKE THIS KEEP GETTING IMPORTED FROM THE USA!!!! I guess they really are desperate to get somebody else to pay for their lavish and deadly banking practices.

NOBODY SHOULD EVER RESPOND TO UNSOLICITED CALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The elderly are a favorite target for scammers.  I understand why you feel so angry.  Elder abuse of this sort is a hot button issue with me.

However, crooks come from everywhere.  Even BC.  And none of this has anything to do with "lavish and deadly banking practices."

If the only thing they did was hit her credit cards, you should be able to get things cleared up.  I do understand though that this is stressful and difficult.  I hope your mother isn't too badly impacted by all of this.

Keep an eye on her mail if you can.  Her checkbook as well.  You may discover that this isn't the only problem. Families often don't know about these things until the money is all gone, and/or the family member has passed.

Your mom is lucky to have your help.

I've also been enrolled with Silverthorn and Lupolover for 8 months, and when I first was considering it, I was also skeptical. I couldn't find anything bad about them online, and now the bad information seems plentiful. If I had seen this stuff when I was looking the first time, I wouldn't have enrolled. As you said, it's been a bit bumpy, but seems to be going OK. And you are right about the customer service, it's very good, they always get back to you right away and answer your questions and try to solve your problems. I have decided that I'll have to stick with it, and I guess if it turns out to be a scam, I'll just have to declare bankruptcy, since I am a single woman on a low income.

Really, you would let these scammers bankrupt you before you would cease doing business with them? You must be a scammer's wet dream.

Confidence games often take time to run their course. This permits the scammers to steal even more money than they could in a single shot. In extreme cases, scams run for years or decades (Bernie Madoff), but a few months is actually pretty common. Think about WHY they call these confidence games, and the perpetrators confidence men (or "con men", not to say that women aren't perfectly capable of it as well) -- because they get the mark's CONFIDENCE, it's what enables them to maximize their take.

Sounds like they have yours. We can put this information in front of you, you can even find it and read it, whether you can take the next logical steps of truly comprehending it and acting on it are up to you.

Dear xxinsanityxx;  I am sensing they are a copy cat of the Silverthorn & Lupolover ,LLP .They have asked me a lot of questions and are valiant about remarking that I am good to have done my own research
on them. But a good thing is only as good as they accommodate your need without information.I have been given 3 mastercards without any information, and use them responsibly, they are an asset. I am thinking if you need advice then phone me,for free.or email >lightshaft34@yahoo.ca .I have battled many a truly complex problem with many a different bank and financial institution, with good manners. Please remember though I am a person with experience, but also I have got it from purposely seeking out credit card debt and paying them off. I know stuff and help people,be sensible. I find the information you are looking for, from the sources, are informal and really not personal understanding.
So My name is Carlyne if you email me,send me a "I would like to ask you a question,of debt." in the Subject line and I will find you in my spam box. Have a happy day as possible and do not send them money with these questions on your mind. :-)

Canuck.....What was the percentage of your debt settlement of the two you did get settled? At anytime did the creditors serve you with a Statement of claim? I have been served and not quite sure how to proceed. I am a little frightened that S&L won't intervene on my behalf. Any encouragement you could give me would be appreciated.

I signed up with S&L about 4 months ago.  I, too, have been feeling very uneasy lately.  All of a sudden they are asking for more information such as a copy of my bills, my pay stubs, my monthly expenses, etc.  Should this information not have been asked for at the start of the program.  I explained to them that I do not write cheques - though I do have a chequing acct.  I explained that all of my banking is done online to save on bank fees so I do not receive a statement & if I asked the bank for a printed statement, they'd give me the same one that I can print off-line myself.  I told them they have a copy of a void cheque with my current address, they have a copy of my statement that I printed from the website (with my name on it), they've been taking payments from my account successfully.  Clearly no more verification is needed.  I explained that I do not live alone & only one utility bill shows my name so sending that information in would be futile.  I don't mind providing necessary information but again, none of this was disclosed at the beginning of the program and it seems like the rules are changing as each month passes.
They call for a monthly follow-up ONLY to ask me if I can contribute more funds to the program.  I tell them that my situation has not changed; I haven't won the lottery nor have I had any success in securing a better paying job.  It is what it is for now.
Don't get me wrong; the people that I speak with are always polite and I hate to take my frustrations out on them.  I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't have tried consolidating instead.  At what point in this program do they even start negotiations with creditors?  They have about $800 of my money.  Also, I was told that the first 3 payments - the majority would go to their fees and then their fees are done.  Then I was told "no no no, that's not right".  I'm very confused and am wondering if I can pull from this program & get maybe some of my money back.  I can attempt to settle with these companies myself.  My father was always good at doing that and I have excellent negotiation skills so....  That's something I should look into.

And just how much is this going to cost her?   From the sound of it you wouldn't know the difference between a debenture and a set of false teeth.

Quote:  "They call for a monthly follow-up ONLY to ask me if I can contribute more funds to the program."

That says it all.   You've been with them for months and they have done nothing but run up advance fees.   The fact that they are polite and friendly while robbing you blind is no proof of ethical conduct.    Also, that they have in their possession a "void Check"  (I'd be interested in how they got their hands on that) means they have your checking account number and I'm assuming they have your credit card numbers as well.    If you try to "fire" them now I'm sure they'll hit you with all sorts of charges and fees.   Consult a lawyer versed in Canadian debt law (I'm assuming from context you are in Canada) because you may need him to get away from these guys and start working on the debt problem for real.    Hopefully there are legal services there with low cost or even free initial interviews to at least give you an idea about your situation.   I'm not familiar with the Canadian debt counseling scene, but a straight fee or non-profit (Canadian equivalent)  service may also be an option.    Do some research and ask friends, your church, at work, whatever for recommendations.  Good luck.

Please forgive me if I read your post and conclude that you seem to be a liar and a shill.  Three Mastercards?  You really are an idiot.  Anyone who thinks multiple credit cards is a good thing is probably someone without money or sense.

I do want to thank you for posting however.  Sometimes it is not entirely clear if a business being discussed here is legitimate or not.  Once the shill posts start, it becomes much clearer what we are dealing with.  So we appreciate the clarity you have provided.

My wife got involved with this firm but did not reveal information other than a phone number and set up a time for them to call back as she had to be prepared for a two hour conversation. With caller display she never answered the phone from the number they first called (thanks for call display) these calls come five and six every day at various times and as late as 1100 p.m. This has been going on for over one month, they just don't seem to give up. Unusual for a legal firm? I convinced her not to peruse this further, as we are both sr.
Good luck, I believe is sounds to good to be true it most likely not true.

They are  there to take advantage of you while you are in a time of need.  Their fees are directed at generating a profit for themselves without  any form of conclusion or reaching the goal of debt settlement.
Contacting these people is very difficult once  they have access to your banking information..  You are much better off working directly with the people you owe money to.  Talk to the collections person and only talk with one person with the card company you owe money to, if you work with them, they will offer a more productive and realistic solution than silver/lupolo will ever, ever, ever, ever, (did I say EVER?) will....... THEY ARE THERE FOR PROFIT ONLY, IF YOU GIVE THEM ANY MONEY YOU ARE A FOOL............

FOOLSWMONEY IS CORRECT, S&L law is taking advantage of in debt people while they are vulnerable.  THERE ONLY GOAL IS TO PROFIT BY DECEPTION.  Money given to the "program" or "trust account" is not refundable.  They are manipulative scammers.  DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM.   Working with one and only one person with the company you owe money is the best solution.  Do not fall victim to" the person you are dealing with now is not available scam........"
