These guys are as slippery as a snake . They screwed me .One year into the contract my account was transferred to Cocburn And Associates who required me to resubmit all correspondence previous submitted. After the contract was up in Oct.2012 the account was not settled ,and they kept the balance of my monies ! When I sent Kennith Legrand an email requesting the status of the contract he did not respond but Silverthorne and |Lupolover did .The shell game . They wanted to start billing me again to deal with the unresolved contract .I changed my banking info so they could not continue to dip into my account.A thing which can easially happen when submitting a void cheque . Thank god I did . I can smell both companies as far away as the east coast .

i worked for this place. you know where the office was? toms river, new jersey, USA. I am an honest catholic. After 2 weeks of working there i thought something was weird. I posted online not to sign up for the program. The next day I get fired for slandering the company and he said that he would contact me with his lawyers and for me to get an attorney. About a month later federal agents came to my home and questioned me about the company. Another month goes by and I'm reading a newspaper and see that they were running an illegal scam brutally robbing everyones money. I dont know if they are still operating but if you can get out now I would immediately
Everything you said was correct (except I worked in their Freehold, NJ office). Yeah this is a company that while I don't know exactly what shady dealings they do exactly, I know that nothing about working in that office felt 'right'. I used to have to do "online reputation management" which basically meant going on here and saying how I was a happy customer, debts were getting settled, etc. etc.
The call center employees would all state they are from Mississauga, but really they were working right in good old New Jersey. As I worked for a different facet of the company, I never spoke with 'clients' over the phone, have no idea of any of their debts were settled or what was done with the money taken in. I simply knew about the process of how debts got 'settled' and wrote about things related to debt settlement online.
I recently came across a debt settlement article and my current job thought "Hmm, I wonder if that 800 notes thread is still getting activity." So I checked back here and decided to post about my past dealings with this company.
While I do not know if they are legitimate or not, I do know that they are shady. They lie to clients over the phone about the location, they own several other businesses under a similar concept (credit repair, medical billing services, etc.)
I also know that if I ever had debts to settle, I would look elsewhere.
Thanks for that reply! Any other information about scripts, what are the names of the similar business, any extra info you want to add? Thanks in advance!
Yo SAss! Aren't you about due to come back showing all your wisdom?

Former Employee too
I'm not sure what you mean by scripts? Like what the call center would read off to the clients? I didn't have or write those scripts, just would overhear the same information spun differently depending on the personality of the call center agent. Some of the other websites that were operated out of that same entity were:
To my knowledge, while these businesses aren't illegal, they are all things that consumers can do on their own. Much like legal services, or accounting. You can do all these things on your own, but generally pay someone who has more knowledge on the subject. However, in this case, you're paying a fee for something that honestly doesn't require much skill at all to do effectively. You starve your collectors of payment, put money away monthly yourself, eventually try and offer a lump sum to the creditors to satisfy the debt. That's basically all this company does. Except you give them the money you save, they put it in a trust account, and the monthly amount you come in, roughly 70-80% of it actually goes towards satisfying your debt. The rest are the fees for a company handling your money and case. Seems like a pretty easy way to make 20% on a unfortunate people with debts in the 10's of thousands doesn't it?
Happy to answer any other questions about it. I'm not trying to bad mouth the company, like I said, I don't really know everything that went on. This is my behind the scenes input of my interpretation on what is done.

I recently enrolled and just as quickly sent a request to cancel my enrollment to cancellations@clegal.ca. This was all before any payment has been withdrawn from my account. However, I am concerned they will attempt to withdrawal funds for first payment set to Come out next month. So, my question is does anyone know the account name Cockburn and associate uses and or the exact name that appears on your bank statement when they make their pre auth withdrawal? Because I am trying to find accurate information so that I may place a stop payment in my bank account. Please advise.
After reading all these negative complaints it befuddles me that people put things up here and jump on the bandwagon slamming a Law Firm that is in good standing with The Upper Ontario Law Society and has helped thousands of clients get out of debt and get a fresh start with their life. Most people that request help are in a very difficult situation and are looking for help , and that is what the Law Firm does. Lets be real if they were doing all this shady stuff don't you think they would be shut down. again they are a Law Firm and answer to a higher power. Debt Settlement with a Law Firm is the best and safest option to get of of debt. Everyone,s situation is different so the program is tailored to best suit the individual person. The Law Firm is full disclosure and states that on its website . Yes the are In Toronto and the States which is very clear on the website. So all this negative stuff needs to be addressed and comments from people who spend all there time blogging and saying things that are not true.Proof is in the pudding and the Law firm does there job hands down. In any business you will have unsatisfied customers just look at Walmart for example, but we all still shop there. As for the slamming of the company by former employees there is a reason that you are no longer employed. Stop the slander and get a life. I am sure there will be negative things said so be it . Cockburn and Associate will continue to help all their clients get out of debt
Ummmm... "Concerned", it's called experience. As in negative experience with that company! Use your head, Man! If they didn't have any business relationship with them they wouldn't post any comments ... neither negative or positive. BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T KNOW THAT THIS COMPANY YOU SEEM TO WANT TO DEFEND/SHILL FOR EXISTS!!!
BTW, any relation to the shill who showed up here some months back (and failed then too)?
