- MaryDon't bother complaining to the Washington State AG - I just got a form letter back stating these calls are coming from Pacific Telecom Communications Group located in Los Angeles. I called the FTC; reported all 13 different phone numbers where Ihave received calls from since May. Their phone number is 1-877-382-4357. I gave them all the number along with dates and times.
- Caller: Pacific Telecom Communications

- NickCaller ID says "WINNER" in all CAPS. Unlike most, I actually received a message from them. (Since my voicemail message is so short, their system probably suspects a live sucker actually answered the call.)
The message states (approx) "If you're willing to place a small sign in your yard, you qualify for a FREE security system." I stopped listening after that.
If you're on the DNC list, any reputable company would respect your wishes, yet I'm sure they get plenty of takers nonetheless. What irritates me is having to PAY for the privilege of having a landline, yet I'm constantly disturbed with unwanted calls - and it's getting worse.- Caller: WINNER

- billy bobI've blocked this number in the past but my Panasonic phone only blocks 30 numbers and then I have to start deleting. I've deleted this number once and now I've added it back in. I think it's time to start looking into the Digitone Call Blocker 10. I wouldn't be surprised if they were behind all the calls.

- "OFFICIAL" RESPONSE REGARDING MY COMPLAIOK so here is the bottom line -- ain't no one gonna do nuthin about these people .... Do not call list doesnt do anything. I talked with the FTC who took the complaint but cant do anything except tell me to report the harassment to my local phone carrier (who can't do anything) and call the police (who say it is not within their jurisdiction.)
This is the official response from the State of Washington Attorney General .... <heavy sigh> Big deal, it is now public record ....

RE: Pacific Telecom Communications Group
File #: (REMOVED)
Dear (Name Removed):
Our office has received your complaint regarding the phone calls you have been receiving. We understand how annoying and frustrating it is to receive unwanted telephone calls.
Unfortunately, unscrupulous telemarketers use a variety of methods to conceal their true identity and location in order to avoid detection. Sometimes, telemarketers obtain telephone numbers that are assigned to certain area codes and assign those numbers to telephone equipment that is not located in that area code. Another method telemarketers use to avoid detection is “caller I.D. spoofing,” which means a telemarketer uses a false caller-identification number so that the phone number appearing on your caller I.D. is not the actual phone number of the telephone equipment placing the call.
We have determined that the telephone number you reported as the source of the calls is owned by Pacific Telecom Communications Group, which is located in Los Angeles, California. Pacific Telecom provides telephone numbers, many of which have 206 area codes, to subscribers. However, many of the subscribers who obtain the 206 telephone numbers from Pacific Telecom are not located in Washington state and could be located anywhere. Under these circumstances, there is very little this office can do to locate the physical presence of the party who is making the calls. However, you should report these calls to the Federal Trade Commission by filing a complaint online at: https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx.
If you would like to learn more about caller I.D. spoofing, you can find additional information on the Federal Communication Commission’s website: http://www.fcc.gov/guides/caller-id-and-spoofing.
Thank you for contacting our office. Your correspondence will become a part of the public record.

- Don R. replies to TennieSame here. I got around filling up the 80 blocked numbers by blocking all 800, 888, 877, 866 and 202 area codes. Out of area, private and unavailable are already blocked. That saved a lot of space for the local and occasional legitimate area code spam calls. Life has been a lot more pleasant since I installed the Digitone. I can actually go through the day without having to run to the phone every time it rings only to find out it is another #&%$ telemarketer or political ad.
- Unfortunately that doesnt work replies to AnonymI did that using words the same words ... they keep calling. In thinking about this, perhaps a nice letter to General Electric saying their good name is being raked over the coals could assist ... since they have the legal where with all to take them down ... only problem is they will start anyother scam. And I got a landline why?????

- Becky JewettThis phone number, or at least the people who are behind it, call me every few months claiming to be from Microsoft to tell me there's a problem/virus in my PC. Please make them leave me alone. My number is on the National Do Not Call registry plus I have asked them repeatedly to never call me again.
Still they call.
I'd appreciate any help making these pests go away.- Call type: Prank
- Scam Blocker replies to spoofSpoofer, please share with the rest of us -- how do you spoof your number when calling these telemarketers back?
- justmeCalled the number back twice....no answer...say it is temporairly unavailabe
- Spam StopperThese scammers called at 9 a.m. and didn't leave a message. Caller ID showed 2064960929 only. Interestingly, this call came exactly 2 minutes after another telemarketing call from 800-678-1208, which was zapped by a computer program called PhoneTray. (Perhaps the same scammers?)
I've been experimenting with PhoneTray Free 1.39 for about a week, and I like it! It can be set up to automatically block and ZAP! calls after 1 ring. If your modem supports voice functions (mine doesn't) it can also play messages like "Out of Service," "Disconnected," "No Dial Tone," etc. I'm using Comcast Voice with a Dell laptop modem that wasn't being used for anything else. I simply ran a phone line from a splitter I added to the back of the phone (makes 1 phone jack into 2 phone jacks) which only costs a dollar or two, into the phone jack on the laptop. Initially all calls showed as N/A, but using the "Fix CID" button from the PhoneTray settings screen took care of that, and now it works like a charm. One ring and ZAP! for any blocked number. An unlimited amount of phone numbers or Caller ID names can be added to the list. Support for PhoneTray Free is being discontinued on Sept 15th (see below) but it can be used "as is" forever. If I have any trouble with it, I can always buy the replacement paid Pro version.
Checking their website, http://www.phonetray.com/phonetrayfree.htm it says:
PhoneTray Free 1.39
PhoneTray Free will be discontinued on September 15th, 2012.
You will not be able to download PhoneTray Free after this date and new versions of PhoneTray Free will not be released.
Your installed version of PhoneTray Free will continue to work forever but technical support will be provided only to customers who paid for PhoneTray Free.
I also file a complaint on all these calls at www.donotcall.gov with the hope that eventually receiving hundreds of thousands of complaints will give them the ammunition they need to hunt down and slap huge fines on these telemarketing cowards.- Caller: Unknown

- Charlotte, NCThis number called in the span of 30 seconds. How, you may ask? I have caller ID on my television. The phone rang, caller ID said Seattle, WA. I didn't answer. When it rang for the second time, I believe call waiting kicked in as the ring delayed and my caller ID said OUT OF AREA with the same number. The same ring happened again, ID said Seattle, WA then one more time ID read OUT OF AREA. Answering machine kicked in and, of course, no message left. Never had this happen before. Very strange.
It's bad enough the DNC convention is going on in my city as I'm getting calls from them also. It's going to be a very long 2 months! I hope it keeps raining!- Caller: Seattle, WA/OUT OF AREA
- Martin_GOffered to sell me a wireless security system. I gave them the name of the governor and the address of the capitol building. Someone is supposed to call back to arrange installation. So far no call. I have turned on my fax software to "answer" the phone.
