    Computer scam
The caller said he was calling to fix a virus on my computer.  I asked him what makes him think I have a computer.  He then said I mean, your laptop, and that he was given my IP address so he knows I have one.  I asked him "who" gave him my IP address.  He ignored the question.  I then told him I do not own a laptop.  He then asked to speak to the owner of the laptop.  I told him no, and that he was discussing private information about someones computer, and he doesnt even know who owns it, or if the person he is speaking to owns it. I told him to ask me security questions.  He then hung up.  He had a heavy accent and i called the number back and got a recording that it is a non-working number. The area code is for the Houston TX area. I wish someone would nab these scammers!

    smarter than them
He said he was calling about my computer.  When I asked "Oh, really.  What about my computer?" He immediately hung up. When I called the number back, it was not a valid phone number.  Definitely spoofing the number and up to no good! **SCAM!!**

I get this call every once in a while. He has an India accent and asks me to go to my computer. I screw with him and spend 30-40 minutes acting dumb and telling him I did what he asked and my computer shut off. I then tell him I need to reboot and leave the phone on speaker where I frustrate him for 10 more minutes and when he tries to talk I crumple paper and stutter like there is a problem making him call back only to go over the same scenario again until he swears at me. I then tell him he's an [***]. The stupid [***] ends up calling me again and we go thru the wasted 30-40 minutes. I'm retired so I have the time to screw with these idiots. The ask you to perform tasks on your computer which gives them remote access where they steal all your info and accounts. Play with them but don't touch your computer.

The call came into my elderly mother's home. Nice Indian gentleman calling to help her with an unwanted program that was downloaded on her computer. I am an IT person so I said "That's awfully nice of you, why are you calling to help?" then he hung up.

The number is spoofed - faked - to keep you and the police from finding them.   According to the other posts in this thread they are calling from India or Pakistan, trying to get you to help them hack into your computer.

The Do Not Call List law cannot be enforced outside the US.  Reporting them won't do any good.

Same middle eastern guy telling me that I have "unstable programs on my computer."  I said, "you don't know that." He insisted he does, and I very loudly told him to NEVER call my number again.  He must be successful with someone to keep at it.
