This number is not - I repeat, NOT - legitimate.

Caller ID: Omaha, Nebraska, the above number.

A message was left on my husband's cell phone saying someone signed into my PayPal account from an unauthorized device.

1. PayPal is located in California. The caller ID will say PayPal, and they DO NOT call from Omaha.

2. PayPal contacts you via the phone number and email address attached to your account. "Omaha" used neither of those contacts.

3. PayPal's customer service number is 888-221-1161. If someone purporting to be PayPal ever tells you to use any other number, THEY ARE SCAMMING YOU.

For all the people here who claim 402-935-7733 is legitimate, and report that all they had to do was call it back and confirm, say, an unusually large purchase ... here's how that goes down in Scam Town:

"Hi sir/ma'am, this is so-and-so calling from PayPal, blah blah, just wanted to confirm a purchase from blah blah date, in the amount of blah blah. Sir/ma'am, in that accurate?"

Sir/Ma'am: "Yes."

BOOM. You just "bought' something. Best check your credit card statements for a while.

I have a PayPal account but haven't used it in years...if it really is PayPal why not leave a message saying such....not to mention that i got a new number and never updated my PayPal account..im going to add it to my blocked list...

THREE BACK TO BACK VOICEMESSAGES EST 5AM: 'This is Paypal automated services.  Please enter your Paypal PIN number.'   TOTAL ROTTEN THIEVES.

Not listed on my PayPal account activity
Reported it to my bank. Yet another CC # stolen

I just two calls from that number. I haven’t made a Paypal purchase in many months. About 8 months. I didn’t answer. There was no message.

Dont forget that the Bad Guys can spoof a phone number. I doubt that PayPal would act like some of these posters have described, so it might be someone spoofing PayPal to try and show some legitimacy.

I received a phone call from this phone number, asking me to enter a pin number, also I have received two text messages with a same pin number earlier.  BUT, I have not use my PayPal account for years. A scam or someone was trying to use my PayPal account illegally?

One might also report it to the Attorney General in one's  State.

I, too, have found a charge on a credit card statement that is not mine, also referencing this phone number.  It Does mention Paypal, with whom I Do Not have an account, and have used them only once in my life, when other options were not available.  It references a charge for legal services.  Funny, I don't recall ever paying legal fees.  I believe this to be a result of a fraudulent call for a magazine subscription renewal that occurred about the same time.  This is the only odd charge on my bill, and was in about the same time frame.  The Real magazine has just been in touch regarding the renewal.  Odd that they would reference completely different subjects, but it's another layer of mystery.
I can't help wondering if this is a Christmas gift from Equifax.
I will be reporting this to the Attorney General of the State of California, and would suggest that those of you who have been wronged will report it to the AG in your respective States.

DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER.  This is not in any  way associated with paypal and/or ebay.  Just before getting this call I received a fake email from someone claiming to be paypal that was investigating a purchase.  Once again,,, this is a fake phone number trying to get your paypal info.!!!!

Found 3 charges on my credit card thst I have no idea way.

Odd charge notice sent to me by scamer saying that I had paid for Google play whatever that is.  Called the real paypal number.  Very helpful, but based on another compromised card, I asked that the Paypal account be closed, which it was.

I called Paypal to ask about a transaction and was told there was over an hour wait and they could call me back.   This is the number that called me back but, when I answered, an automated voice said something about high call volume and hung up.   I called Paypal back and the recording said I was still in the queue to receive a call and they'd put me thru right away.  (15 min on hold... still waiting)     Anyway, this is a Paypal number.  I've been a customer of theirs since Elon Musk thought up the idea (or thereabout) and have never had a problem.  I have had disputes and they have always been handled.  I just think this number is used so often and people don't know what it is so they just block it or report it as spam.

Me, too.  3 fraudulent charges on a unused credit card--all different vendors through PayPal with this same phone number.  Why hasn't this been shut down after 11 years?????

This IS a legitimate PayPal phone #!  My post above turned out to be not receiving my credit card bill that I thought was paid off for 2 months for unknown reasons--USPS??  When getting a call back from PayPal investigating the charges in question, this was the LEGITIMATE number that called back.

I also noticed an unexpected charge on my Costco CITIcard statement for 02/05 PAYPAL *ENUMBER INC   402-935-7733 NJ   $16.08
I haven't knowingly used PAYPAL for months. Looking back at my e-mail, I found I had made an eBay credit card purchase of an amplified UHF TV antenna for that amount.  (It has arrived, but I haven't put it together yet.)  So it was a valid charge (unless I see it again on a different charge card.)
So, my recommendation to others questioning this number is, rather than wasting time and money on a call to this number, look back at your e-mail around the date and see if you made any eBay purchases (they send out confirmations of sales) or any charges for same amount.
