Caller ID stated: 11/17/18, 11:36 AM, US Government, 410-965-1234. I picked up the phone and no one was there. I checked the number on the internet and it says it is for the Social Security Admin. How can one tell if it is a spoofed number or the real deal. The scammers have taken all the trust out of what used to be a simple phone conversation. Sad state our country is in.

Yes, Alfonso was probably a shill. That was a post from 2008, and this thread has a good many shill posts. Some is protecting a good sized scam.

I received a call over voice relay because the person on the other end said the call was coming from Social Security and the caller was hearing impaired. The person asked me how much in wages I expected to earn this year. I said nothing and they terminated the call. I think this is also a scam and since I live close by the Social Security office, I will be going in later today to let them know about this. Maybe they can investigate the number.

White pages says this number belongs to Yolanda A Bruce, Bing.com says this number belongs to Federal Protection Service.  Other people report this number belongs to the Social Security Administration's Baltimore office. They called me today and did not leave a message.  Will not be calling back.

I answered, it was a very very very heavy accented fella named "tom". He told me he was with the IRS and I owed big monies. Wanted the first 5 of my social, which is odd, who wants first 5 vs last 4? So,  I immediately gave him random made up numbers to see where this was going because I was bored.  After I gave him my fake social,  Mr Indian Tom informed me that not only did I owe money, I had to pay it right then. The requested total was 3 thousand dollars, lol.  I told Mr Tom,  that there was absolutely no way i could do that at the time. I'll mention again, i was very bored.  So, after 25 minutes of negotiations, i got Mr Tom from 3k allllll the way down to a whopping 1 time payment agreement of 15 bucks.  15 dollars. All he needed now was my checking and routing numbers. This is where i let the cat out of the bag on Mr Tom.  He was not happy when i told him i was in fact scamming him at the same time he was scamming me. He became very unprofessional, to the point he actually told me that he'd had intercourse with my wife multiple times and that he was going to call my place of employment and tell them I don't pay my bills.  (I don't care what my work thinks of me, he never did this by the way)  It was on speaker with my wife in the room, we laughed uncontrollably. Tom is a character.  My advice,  have fun with these people. They called over 50 times until I finally decided to answer,  once I did,  I played their stupid game,  they never called me again. Threats won't stop them, but non compliance will. They'll move on when they realize that you're not a fool. Good luck people!

Same number started calling last week and called on Saturday and Sunday. I know SSA isn’t open on the weekends. They can claim all day they are the SSA but I don’t live in Maryland and never have. I’m reporting this umber to my SS office to see what is going on.

I have gotten this call twice today. Mind you, it’s Sat. SS is closed on weekends. Once at around 6 AM when they’re not even opened yet, once again at 6:15 PAm. I didn’t take either call, as I do with every call  whose number I don’t recognize. Plus, SS has an 800 number, Number three, social security claims it does NOT call anyone. Use common sense folks, if they’re calling you, they’d only need your name, they already have all your info!  This is so obviously a scam!!

Well "B", it seems that some of the callers from this number ask for "just" the last 4 digits of your SS#. Other callers from this Phone # ask for "just" the FIRST 5 digits of your SS#. Put those together and, SURPRISE, they have your SS#.
They told ME to call them and give them my son's SS#>
    Sounds like scammers to me!
