SSI (Supplemental Security Income) doesn't do anything since it is not alive.  Now if you are referring to the telephone survey company Survey Sampling International then they do call and do not send out "mail letters".

Man looking to "resolve" an issue with  my Medicare benefits. Asked for partial d.o.b. I informed that I don't give information out to people I don't know. He said he would send me a letter. Called Medicare and they affirmed that they would never call and ask for that type of info and that my benefits are just fine.

I got a phone call around 11:00 am today, it went to vm bc I do not answer numbers anymore of fear of it being a scammer. So I read voicemail and it said it was from a women named Yolanda that works for SSA, and she has a very important matter to discuss with me about money. Actually I’ll just copy n paste the message.

“Good morning this message is for _____ ______ my name is Amanda calling from the ____ security administration headquarters in payment center in Baltimore Maryland my phone number is 410-966-5705 and I need you to call me um in regards to an important issue with your claim again my name is Yolanda calling from Social Security administration according to payment center in Baltimore Maryland __ number is 410-966-5705 the time now is 11:22 AM on Friday, 23 August _________…”

Now I called back bc I am on disability but what is strange is that when I called, I didn’t get “Yolanda” I got a lady that is saying she doesn’t know if she can talk to me, to give her the last five digits of my social security number, I was hesitant but to be honest at this point anyone trying to steal my info to make accounts would be useless bc I have horrible credit from when I was hit and out of work for a very long time so they won’t get to much from me. I said what is this, is it SS? She said umm yes it is, I said why are you hesitant about saying this? She said bc I have to talk to my employer to see if I can talk to you, I said who is your employer, if you work for SSA 😳 right? Shouldn’t that be the government as their employer. Very weird I hung up and called the number that the message states and got Yolanda’s voicemail, it’s a very strange situation and I am about to get to the bottom will update once I actually talk to Yolanda or after I find out what it really is concerning.

Caller ID said "US Government", which is why I picked up. I had just applied for SS benefits online, and the application stated that someone may be calling to follow up on that. So "Mr. McCall" said the call was in regard to my recent application, and I believed that. How would he know otherwise? He never asked for my social. Then he asked me if my husband, who he knew was eligible for benefits, was going to apply, and I said "not yet", and he told me he was eligible to collect an amount of half my benefits. Free money! Well, he wasn't home, so he asked me to have him call back. I came here to check it out and found many different viewpoints. I am normally very skeptical, but this really seemed valid. I am confused. And we did not call him back.

Go to the official Social Security Administration website, find the number you need to contact them and do so. Do not call this number.

Not true. When I applied for benefits, they made a point of telling me they would call if they had questions about my application. It's the IRS who says they don't call.

I’ve always been told the that the Social Security office doesn’t call people they send letters. I get calls from them to and they never leave a msg. They even call on Sat. What government office works on Saturday.

Called at 10:20 this morning, Saturday. May have left a voicemail, but I haven;t done voicemail in years. I had been googling some stuff about social security and taxes so I assume that's where they got the number. I don't believe it's legitimately the SSA because they don't call, they snail mail everything, and it's a Saturday when the SSA is only answering questions (maybe, depending on staffing) not calling people. Plonk!

Sorry that is not anywhere close to being believable.  First, no normal person would look up a phone number when they know who called and why.  When SS calls you back they have a recording of you saying your name so that you know it is them.  There is a lot that they can do with the last 4.  Now for the big one that is giving you away.  Today is Saturday.  SS does not work on the weekends.  They barely work 8 hours a day during the week.  This proves that you are one of the scummy scammers.  As a side note, when you posted here you agreed to the TOS which pretty much states that if you lie your post gets removed.  Guess what is going to happen shortly?

Received a call that claimed it was Social Security Administration and that my SSN / Benefits would be canceled if I didn't respond immediately... I pressed number 1 to deliver my strongest statements of displeasure at this attempted fraud scheme.  The call disconnected.  The number, when dialed answers as Social Security.  Someone has cloned their number and info for this scam.

"Spoofed" not "cloned". Definitely a scam, though, since the Social Security Administration doesn't initiate contact by phone but by US mail.
