I just got this call, I let it go to voicemail. Had a message to call the IRS with their 800 number. Instead, I called the 716-206-3218 number...And I got "the number you have reached is not in service"  The 1800 829 7650 number is an IRS number so that was a little creepy...

You may wanna rethink that it's a scam...  Here's the phone numbers that you guys are stating the voice mail is stating call back...  This seems like the real IRS to me...

Only call the numbers mentioned on their website. The numbers on their website belong to the IRS. The rest are fakes. Just cause you get a voice mail claiming it is the IRS don't mean its the real IRS.

Received a voice mail from 716-206-3218 on my cell phone.  The message was not complete.  A case number was stated, which I did not relate to but there was no return call number. I hit the call back on my cell number and the message stated the telephone number was not in service.  What's up. Jasper.

Just got a call from 716-206-3218.  As soon as I picked up the phone the message stated they could not complete the call.  I'm just going to block the number.  But I know that the IRS will send you a letter prior to calling you. They're just phishing.

Caller ID said "IRS".  Message played "due to circumstances beyond our control we cannot complete this call.  We will contact you later".

I expect to hear from these folks again.

Just got called from this number twice in a 15 minute period but did not pick up. Glad to find out that it looks like some sort of scam.

They called me (on my unlisted cell) and hung up when I answered.
So I called them back and gave them a ton of bogus info (made up SS#, birth date of an 82 yr old and bogus name). Said I was really worried and wanted to pay my taxes ASAP.
Bet they waste a whole day being all excited their going to scam some poor old guy.

Message from irs to call back end of business day

Got the call today, 01/25/2013 about 15 minutes before 5:00 EST. So it's still active.

Just got a call from this same number for the 3rd time in a week.  Same thing.  Due to circumstances beyond our control we cannot complete this call.  Crazy.

We just called and reported the number to our local police dept.  Maybe they can do something about it.  They call three or four times a day.

when I did a reverse ID number, it said said the phone is in Lancaster, NY.  What if we call the Lancaster police dept

This is a real IRS number. not a scam. I talked to my attorney. The number they left me to call back is a call center. It is legit. You better contact them or a lawyer if you decied not to call back. The IRS does call you. They don't always send a letter especially if they already sent you one even if it was lon time ago. ( like in my case)

This is actually not a scam but a mistake by the IRS in their programming of the Caller ID call back number. IRS does make outgoing calls on some collection cases and leave a case reference # because they cannot legally leave the Social Security # on an unsecured voicemail.
