- terreyHave been getting these calls to when I answer the phone I get an automated message with a bogus case number when you call the real irs they don't have that care number on file go to your local irs office Anna just ask
- Caller: irs
- sccalled twice, but I did not answer. Caller ID shows IRS - but it is a scam. Called the "real" IRS and they said they do not call but rather send mail. Also called Attorney General's Office who said they have had many calls about this. Do not answer phone if ID shows IRS - it is a scam and report it to the "real" IRS and Attorney General.
- Caller: bogus IRS
- DanYou may not want to assume this is a scam. I got a call but instead of calling the number they left on the voicemail I called the main number for the IRS (1-800-829-1040) and went through their system to talk to a person. They do ask for ALOT of personal information but IT WAS THE IRS, they were knew all my prior years transactions. They did wanted to talk to me and ignoring the call would have been costly for me. So call the main number at the IRS and see if they wanted to talk to you.

- Shane ChaseI received a scam call from 716-206-3218, advising this was the IRS with a case number. The number is disconnected when I call back. After a Google search, this appears to be a scam.
- andy reddeni did not call it back
- Caller: irs
- krisreceivedving calls from this number the only thing i hear on the messages is the hours of operation and a referencs number when i call back never who it is or else
- MichelleStill happening in 2013. Same wording as reported here, same phone number. Obvious scam but thanks to this board anyway!
- jesusWell, the number that comesup could thegeneric # for the department.. I have friends who for dept of Hunan services, if they were to cal from their deskl the same generic would for each of them... So maybe that's why we can't call the ID #..
- AlI received a call from this number. The caller stated that she from the IRS, left an 800 number to call with acse number2493987738.
- Cali Girl| 1 replyJust got the call now, could not answer because I was busy. They left a voicemail to call back @ the 800 number.
My case # 781/5919538 sounded fishy since I've never used my cell phone number for offical IRS paperwork. I'm still not understanding how this scam works? Is there a live person if you do answer the call?- Caller: IRS (allegedly)
- Elspeth replies to Cali GirlIt would be safer for you to actually go to the IRS webpage - http://www.irs.gov/ - and call your local office. That way, you will KNOW that you're calling and talking to the REAL IRS.
- Moose replies to JillI saw this post and decided to call the number you got after our business got a call from this weird "IRS" 716 ph#. Called it and a man answered and said "Intake". I explained about the call, saying we'd gotten a call from this number (I actually called the other 800 number listed and it sounds like the legit IRS, but being nosey, called this one, too); I asked him: "Are you a hospital?" And he said, Yes, that he is at a Pyschiatric Hospital across from (LA) County SC (medical center) in the intake ward! Well, I couldn't help it and I burst out laughing, and so did he; I thanked him, apologized for bothering him, and that was that!
- Miriam Febleskeep calling me like 10 times a day at work.
- Kirstin Gardner, CPAThis number is the IRS office in Buffalo. The number they ask you to call back is 800-829-7650.
This is a legitimate department at the IRS see http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Federal-Payment-Levy-Program. It's actually the department that will Levy your assets if you are behind on your taxes.
The call may be for you or someone else who had your phone number in the past. Before they send out a notice to these people they are calling all numbers they had on file for the account with the message to return the call.
I just spoke with the IRS and they confirmed that the call was legitimate, but the case number did not match my client's SSN. They deleted my client's phone number from the other account so they would stop receiving phone calls related to the collection.
I hope this helps someone else. I would definitely call to confirm the case number is not related to you and/or to remove your number from the account.- Caller: IRS
- Call type: Debt collector
- PaulThe people on here saying that this is a scam are wrong. Google the 1-800 number that the recording asks you to call with the case number. It is all over the IRS web site. It is the beginning of the IRS collection process. I know because I owe them more money than I will ever be able to pay.
Maybe they need to get hold of someone else, but your number ended up in that person's file. Who knows. But this is the IRS. Not a scam. You may want to call them back.- Caller: IRS

- NameIf you owe back taxes, call IRS main number (800-829-1040) and talk to an agent about your account

- kansasWe got this call today and like the other posters knew I had not received any notice from the IRS. Seems like they have been working this scam for several years.
- Caller: IRS
- Darien HillReceived a call and when answered said it was from the IRS and to call 800-829-7650 and provide case ref #; but when called it said to enter Social Security #. I didn't and stayed on hold to be transferred to an agent. While on hold, decided to google and see if there was anything on here and it seems to be a scam. Please remove my # from this as unwanted calls.
