Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

** IRS-Impersonation Telephone Scam**
Note that the IRS will never: 1) call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill; 2) demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe; 3) require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card; 4) ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone; or 5) threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.- Caller: IRS ??
- langeMan claiming to be with the IRS. Returned call to the IRS and they had not called us. Be careful,,,, scam
- Caller: IRS?
- MN-NICE| 1 replyTHIS IS NOT A SCAM!! 100% LEGIT!!!! DON'T BE A FOOL!!!! If you are concerned about your safety/security (like I was) call the 800 from IRS.GOV website -- that's what I did!! There was no way I was calling that number back!!
After verifying ALL my information w/ the IRS Rep (and 25 minutes of holding... ARGH!!), I told them about the odd # and automated vmail and Mr. Kilzec (sic) at IRS was able to READ me the ref # provided on my voicemail (I never told him the ref # -- he told me... again, after verifying all my identifying info) and assured me the call was not a scam. You're a fool if you believe this call is a scam and don't call back. The "716" number is a caller-id name and is NOT an actual IRS # so calling back the 716 # will get you nowhere. Either call the number given on your voicemail OR call the 800-829-1040 (see IRS.GOV). The IRS DOES call you. Not often but they do. Please be smart. I almost didn't call back because so many people were saying it's a scam - so glad I did.- Caller: IRS
- Call type: Debt collector
- MN-NICE replies to David CaseIt's not a scam! I would strongly recommend you at least call the 800# on the IRS website and provide them your reference #.
- Badge714 replies to MN-NICENO! NO! NO! NEVER give out personal/financial information out on an incoming call. If YOU did not make the call, did not look it up, did not verify the number, say nothing. Take the information without giving any out. Because of caller ID spoofing (faking) you can be talking to anyone anywhere in the world. Due diligence. Do not be fooled by a 'this number is legit' post on 800 notes, YOU have to look it up. Scammers & trolls often post on this site.
- evReceived call from this claiming to be the IRS stated I needed to call back today left a case number and phone number. Read other comments and didn't call back
- LibbyI got this number on my cell phone twice telling me to call 877-968-3413 and that they are the IRS. I figured it was a scam cause IRS say they don't call they will send out a letter. Just hang up and don't call back or the other number! IT IS A SCAM!!!
- Pash replies to Nancy DrewIRS will NOT initiate a call. They do everything through snail mail
- JoatIs it true that if you answer the call , they basically know it is a working number and will be on a list to sell to other scammer? If this is true, thanks goodness for caller ID !!
- Caller: Tracfone
- Donna replies to truthFine job, Sir. My brother in-law works for IRS. I know it's bulls**t
- DjJust got a call from the same number and left message saying.g I need to call by the end of the day. The IRS will send out a letter if you owe them anything. What a scam.

- davidzd replies to MaryAnnei just got one today may 2nd /2016. called back its not in service, i think they have our tel# somehow then they ask us
to go to irs website (which they are spying on laptop traffice) and put our personal information that way they can get .it.
never go to log in just scan ur computer one more time. - Reply to scammer| 2 repliesThe IRS reminds people that they can know pretty easily when a supposed IRS caller is a fake. Here are five things the scammers often do but the IRS will not do. Any one of these five things is a tell-tale sign of a scam. The IRS will never:
Call to demand immediate payment, nor will we call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill..
Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.
Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.- Caller: IRS scam
