This is a scam, I called the number back 10 times, got the same guy claiming to be a IRS officer. He was also the same guy on the recording. After I question him, he hung up! I called him again and this time, I gave him a few choice "Old English" words, the little coward then hung up again. I have family that works for the IRS and if you get a call from a IRS line it's going to come from a secured line, either NO number or all "0000000!" so don't be alarmed, give' Em a few choice words!!!!! Have heard from the lil' coward since!

I received a call from 716-206-3218.  They left a recorded message saying they were the IRS and left a call back number of 800-829-7650.  The recording gave a case number to refer to.

It turns out this was a legit call from the IRS.

The 716 number is a number from which IRS automatic calls are generated.  The 800 number is the IRS.  If you feel uncomfortable calling back the 716-206-7650 number, you can call back 800-829-1040, which is the main IRS number  I called back, gave them the reference number, which they acknowledged was real and they discussed a legit issue with me. The IRS person who handled my call also had an ID number.

The IRS does call people - usually with a recorded message and case number.  Just be careful, because there ARE  DEFINITELY scammers out there.

I got a call from 716-206-3218, robo call gave the 800-829-7650 number with a case number.  It was a legit call from the IRS.  Turns out, I had recently moved, and there were documents that were sent to the old address that I have never seen, and all that is true.

When I mentioned that I was leery of this being a scam, he said I could simply take the case number into any IRS office and they would explain things.

I also received a call from this number on my CELL PHONE. After reading the various posts on this site, I am "totally" confused!!  I don't know why they would call my Cell phone when they have my home "land-line" number available to them. But I don't know who to believe after reading the opposing views of so many!  I "DO" owe the IRS, so as a result of that, I am concerned. I don't feel it is in my best interest to call the IRS though, to find out if, indeed, they are trying try to get a hold of me, because past experience, with not only them, but ANY debt collector, has taught me that it throws up a "red flag", so to speak, and re-energizes their attempts at collecting on any past debt.
So I will, at this time, ignore this number and "block" it on my phone so they can no longer get through!
And as noted on other posts on this site, I am very aware that the IRS will ALWAYS send out letters or "notices" of any concerns before making telephone calls, as long as they have your current address on file. And since I am positive they have mine, I will not react to this number, or any other number that I may receive that may "appear" to be from the
    IRS 😄👍

I also received several phone calls from the same 716 # most are referring to first time I missed it they left a number stating to call them back by end of business day and a case No.: Today I answered and kept saying hello and there was no one on the other end of the line.. I am also very confused by the various answers from people who say they have spoke to the IRS and say this is a scam and others who say that it is a totally legit .. I have not received any mail notices, They have called my cell phone which is unlisted and I have no idea how the IRS would've obtained it as it is not in my name, but the message did state my first name but not my last, it was not a pre-recorded message either.. Regardless I am not calling back I will answer the call but will not give any information over the phone due to the mass responses stating this is a scam, the IRS really should put something on their site if this 716 # is an actual legit IRS calling collection agent or not!

Hi, Jess - I think your "posting" in reference to this number is the BEST way to handle anyone calling from this number. As stated earlier, I don't know whom or what to believe - because of the different views presented here on this site! Some actually seem to know what they are talking about and in their opinion, those that ignore the call should be concerned.
But my opinion hasn't changed!! If the IRS actually uses that type of system to contact certain individuals, they are, for the most part, wasting theirs and others time because with the technology that exist in today's world, with all the "blocking" techniques available and the reverse number "look-ups". If the IRS is really interested in contacting someone regarding a legitimate claim, I will "guaran-damn-tee" you they will use the US Postal System first, then "maybe" follow that up with a "personal" call from an 800 number - not some damn "so called not in service number!!
I am absolutely positive that anyone from this number will "NEVER" be able to actually converse with me!!!  GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
