- RingtailI am so tired of these calls that I finally called the IRS myself using numbers from their website. I am in "full pay" status so the IRS is not looking for me. The agent said that the 716 number is an IRS collections number but again, the IRS is not looking for me. She advised against my returning these calls. I don't intend to.
- Caller: fake IRS
- Call type: Debt collector
- Grammie replies to TLI have gotten calls for the last 2 weeks. I finally did the 411 reverse number lookup and saw that it was a scam. I knew I had no business with them. Ridiculous! Hope they get caught and punished for making a false call from/Posing as IRS!
- DeborahGet a call from these people every few days.....do not call them. SCAM!!!!

- AlI am receiving calls from this number at very odd times. Caller claim to be from the IRS. When I tried to call back, the number is said to be disconnected.
- JimBeen receiving calls 2-5 times a day for several weeks from 716-206-3218 insisting I call 1-800-829-7650 with a case number provided by end of business 'today.' Caller ID says IRS. I know this is a scam but know of no way to block them.
- Caller: IRS
- DanielI have received a call from this number several times recently. Finally decided to look up a number on the IRS website and talk to an actual representative.
She told me that this sounds like a scam, and that if they did correspondence over the phone, it would be a live employee with a live employee ID number given. She also said that is a rarity, as almost everything is handled in the mail or even email.
It took me about 45 minutes to get that answer, but I feel a bit more at ease now. I took down her information so that I could refer to it if need be. I wish I could block this number but AT&T won't allow it without a fee.- Caller: IRS
- Christina CollerCalled and never left message, when I tried to call back the message stated number disconnected.

- LAW ENFORCEMENTThis is a total scam...the IRS does not make these calls. This is a payday loan scam, illegal operation, making false threats to collect debt. They spoof the caller ID to appear to come from NY...can't call back the number. Do not pay them anything or give them any information. Report it to the FTC or your state attorney general's office. Do not pay them....they can't do anything to you

- TaxExpertI too have received these calls from 716-206-3218, and am getting them almost daily now. They are not from the Internal Revenue Service. My number is on the national do not call registry, so I don't get too many of these types of calls, which only makes the ones I do get even more aggravating. I have filed a complaint with the do not call registry (which will get to the FTC) & suggest you do the same. If they don't stop soon, I will be contacting the NY State Attorney General's office.
- Robert| 1 replyThis is NOT a scam: 716-206-3218 is an automated dialer setup by the IRS for collections, and will tell you to contact the IRS (via an recorded message) to contact the IRS Federal Payment Levy Program at 800-829-7650 -- the collections arm of the IRS for unpaid individual taxes. See http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Federal-Payment-Levy-Program. Failure to contact the IRS with regard to collection matters can result in wage garnishments, additional penalties, etc. If you feel you have been contact incorrectlty by the IRS, or need verification, you should contact the IRS directly at their main number 800-829-1040 and have them verify that they contacted you.

- LindaHave received 3 of the same "IRS" calls from 716-206-3218 - totally automated. I am almost tempted to call the 800 number to see if I can get this person or persons to stop calling. I too was told this was not a working number - if that is correct, how is it being used?
- Liinda replies to RobertRobert - If this is NOT a scam, why are people with no taxes or penalties owed being called?
- max replies to TL| 14 repliesthis is not a scam. believe nothing or no one else. i was call from the 716 number, then called the 800

- KyleThe phone number (716)206-3218 has been calling me a few times a day for months. I even changed my phone number & before I gave my number out to anyone they called AGAIN on my new phone number!! They would call & it would be a recorded message saying it was the IRS asking me to call them back at 1(800) 829-7650 with case number 9155944144. I would call back & get a recorded voice saying it was the IRS asking for my SS # or operator extension. I would put in the case number 3 times then just keep hitting zero after being on hold for a few mins I got a hold of a gentleman who gave his last name & an ID # asking for my SS # when I asked who he was and where he was from he started to get flustered & threatened to call the police due to my "tax fraud". I then hung up.
I call the REAL IRS who told me it sounded like a scam & that while the IRS can contact you by phone they will always confirm their name, ID, & specific department. He did ask for my SS # so he could leave notes on my account but I told him in light of what was happening I didn't feel comfortable giving that to him. He said that was fine & placed me on hold while he gave me the # for the U.S Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration or TIGTA.
I decided to call the 1(800) 829-7650 number back while I was waiting for an answer from TIGTA. I was on hold w/the scam number for long enough for me to file a report w/TIGTA. When I finally answered I decided to record everything. She gave her last name & ID. I then told her I had gotten like 4 calls a day from this number & I wanted to know what it was regaurding & gave her the 9155944144 case number. She looked it up & asked me if my name was Shane (which it isn't. I know from text messages that Shane was the previous owner of my new phone number) I told her I didn't know anyone by that name & she asked for my phone number so she could take it off the list. I told her since she already had it if she could just take it off. She then read my phone number out to me & told me I should stop getting calls. I said thank you & asked for her name & department again. She told me her last name & said she was with the IRS. I said Okay, what department? She said IRS. I asked what department in the IRS & she said "It doesn't matter since you aren't the person we are calling for". I asked again for the department so I would know who to contact if I keep getting calls. Again she said IRS (at this point she was getting really annoyed & upset at me). I said okay I just want to know the department because I am recording the conversation & need to know what "department" I am reporting to the real IRS. She then hung up the phone.
I am trying to call back again & will give my old phone number that they had been calling prior to this one. I'll record it & see what they have to say.
This is a complete scam! If you need the real # to report these people it can be found on this page of the IRS.Gov website

- TDI received a call from this number today. After searching online for the number and finding this thread, I decided to call it back. I followed the instructions for the 800 number. I am not quite sure what number all of the doubters are calling, or if they are merely speculating the validity of the number, but THIS IS THE IRS. This is no joke. I had some overdue taxes owed and they wanted to talk to me in order to make payment arrangements. All I can say is this, they were extremeley helpful and did a great job in working with me on my situation. Yes, it's the IRS. Yes, you should take them seriously. But, given the chance, they will work with you. The people who ignore this number or ignore the IRS are the ones who should be worried. It is NOT a scam nor is the "scam" speculation true. We may not like the IRS, but you can't ignore them.
