Received a call from this number this morning. The call came about 10-15 minutes after I had purchased a t-shirt from the UK. (I live in America). So I assumed that the sudden European purchase is what triggered potential fraudulent charges on my card. However, this number was NOT a PNC number I was familiar with, so I decided to Google the number first and found this discussion on it.

It seems like the opinions are split as to whether or not it is a scam or not. Either way, I wasn't willing to risk it, so instead I just called PNC using the number on the back of my card and got transferred to their fraud department. The gentleman at PNC said he didn't see anything on my account that flagged suspicious activity, that he didn't recognize the number, and advised me to just ignore the call and keep an eye on my account.

So, scam or not, be safe and just check with your bank using the number on the back of your card.

Ignore everyone squawking scam. This is PNC Banks Credit Card Loss Prevention number. Same number called me twice while I was in meetings. I called back, heard the automated thing so I hung up and called PNC customer service myself. They verified both calls from this number and told me it was in regards to 2 transactions from web purchases on my card. Due to recent fraud across the country, they are monitoring all web charges from none everyday merchants.

This is most definitely PNC, they just called me from this number (which I didn't answer, yet called back their normal CS#) to verify 2 web purchases were legitimate. Its incredibly inappropriate to go online telling people something that's inaccurate. This number is for "Card Loss Prevention" aka their fraud department.

Got two of these robo-calls on my cell today. After they asked to confirm my address, I hung up. Called PNC Bank. They did not recognize the number. Checked my account and saw no reports of problems. Filed report with PNC fraud division.

I just called 1-888-PNC-BANK regarding a toll free number that has been trying to contact me all weekend. It was automated, but said it was regarding suspicious activity on my account.
PNC told me that nothing was flagged on my account and they will not contact me with an automated recording...only live! Don't trust 800-225-5671!

Okay, we received a voicemail from these guys. addressing my daughter by name (usually a sign they are legit, but it was recorded). I checked here first and didn't know if I should ignore it or tell my daughter, so I told her, since they asked specifically for her and identified themselves as PNC, where we all have accounts. My other daughter, intelligently said, to call PNC Corporate, instead of the call back number.  After a few very nice people she was put through to somebody who verified it was in fact them.  She realized she'd been doing some bizarre charging recently, it being spring and the freezing weather had disappeared, sunny and 65 degrees or so just screams gardening!  So, I would say they were pretty legitimate.

I don't really know what so say in response to 'Call Type', since I'd market it as security.

I received this call as well, but didn't answer.  After reading here I called 888-PNC-BANK and talked to a rep.  They told me there were no flags on my account for fraudulent activity and that the call was probably fraudulent.  Just another data point for everyone - if there was no fraudulent notes on my account, how could an automated fraud alert have reached out to me?

Received call from 800-225-4671 this afternoon. There is concern the call is a scam. We verified the call is legitimate. My son's account was flagged for unusual activity.
My suggestion is not to resond to the 800# but do immediately call the number on your statement or debit card. That number is automated too, but if you keep saying "Fraud Dept" the autobot will get you to live people at PNC 24/7.

I got a call from this number, saying they were the fraud service at PNC bank wanting to verify some charges on my account. Instead of calling this number back, I called the number on the back of my PNC card. They actually did verify they had tried to call me. There were some fraudulent charges on my account. I know several people said the number isn't accurate. When in doubt, call the customer service number on the back of your bank card. In this case, the number was legitimate. Still, I only call the number on my bank cards just to be on the safe side.

It was PNC's fraud division. I had to punch in my zip code and then they told me the last 3 purchases I had made on my account so I could verify.

Also verified with PNC through their official Customer Service number that my recent purchases had tripped their possible fraud algorithm.

I just left PNC bank to verify. I wanted it straight from them NOT over the phone or computer. This IS a LEGIT number regarding fraud on accts or at least questionable activity. If you bank with PNC I highly recommend you go to a branch if you don't trust the phone number

Good gawd people, do you really think a branch employee knows every number for a corporation?  This call is LEGIT. I got it and did the same thing any smart person does, hung up and called PNC directly. They were suspicious of a mall kiosk I made a purchase with. They confirmed the message they had sent me. Call your flipping bank before making stupid assumptions and filing fraud complaints.

PNC told me that this is a known scam number and to NOT answer when they call or to call them back and always return a call with the number on the back of the card.

Be wary if you see this number on the back of your phone and do NOT answer or give them any information about you at all!
