Got a call march 9th and let it go to voicemail. It was an automated system that said they had an important message for me and wasn't a telemarketer call. All I had to do was press 1.

Weird thing is, their system knew my name.

It is USAA Fraud Prevention Dept. It is an automated system/number. It will call back if it doesn't reach the person for whom it is looking. The automated calls are generated because some predetermined "trigger" alerts the system to possible fraud. We received a call today because my husband had an usually high charge (for his spending activity) come through from a School in the US, followed shortly thereafter by a charge from a Shopping Center in Canada. (These actually were his charges). I think the unusually high charge at the School in the US followed shortly thereafter by the "Out-of-Country" charge in Canada, triggered the alert.

Yes, I just got off the phone with them. It's legit. If you don't trust calling the number back, then call the number on the back of your USAA credit card and have them transfer you to the fraud prevention unit. It will get you to the same group.

The Number comes from people posing as USAA Fraud Prevention. It's part of a phishing scam.  Just happened to my in-laws today. They were going to ask for the 3 digits on the back of their credit card to verify a purchase made.  My father in law called USAA and they immediately told him that Fraud Prevention NEVER uses automated calling systems...in other words, you'll be talking to an actual person.  If this happens to you, do not provide the requested information or you're going to regret it.  Good luck.

Got a call from this number today, right after making some out of state charges. I logged in to my USAA account and it gave me another number to call and confirm my account activity.

It is an automated call from USAA Fraud Detection. They ask about purchases and press 1 if you did make the purchase.  If you did not press 2, etc.  I did have to call another number and speak to a Rep because after looking at my computer listing it appeared a store had billed twice.  After talking to the Rep who said it was stiill pending and too soon to be posted she suggested I call the store.  The store said the one of the billings should be cancelled before actual posting (it was still pending on the computer screen at my home), if not call back.

I received this call as well. A recorded message said the call was from the USAA Fraud Prevention Department, and it asked me to confirm my name, which I did, and then asked for my zip code, at which point I hung up. I called USAA with their usual number and the credit card department confirmed that they use autmated messages, and the computer showed I had been called and the call had been disconnected. So, all is good.

It's not a phishing scam, it is really USAA Fraud Prevention, so DON'T IGNORE IT.  However, I called USAA twice on two different numbers and got two different answers:  When I called the number for USAA  MasterCard (first card I grabbed), they said the call wasn't theirs; however, when I called USAA Visa they confirmed some suspicious charges (in Aruba!) on my Visa and had already canceled the card.  If you get a call and don't trust the caller ID number, call the number on the back of the card that the recording specifies.

It is USAA Fraud Unit. I purchase gas twice, once for my car and the other one for my boat at the same gas station. Next time I used the card I was embarrased by the sale being declined in front of some of my friends. Since I was out of town I didn't heard the message they left at my home.phone. I called the number in the back of my card and they asked me to verify the purchases, which I did. Not very happy with USAA right now.

Listen, if someone steals your credit card number and uses it you are only responsible for the first $50.00 at most. USAA is embarrasing its costumer to protect themselves. The total purchases I made for gas were less than 150.00 I'm not happy with USAA just declining a sale. USAA could have asked the merchant to talk to me just that rather a declination. I am glad you are happy with USAA. I'm not at all.

It's USAA Fraud Dept.  They called to let us know my husband's card was being used 8 hours away. Some one was on a spending spree with our money. Glad USAA stopped it!

We, too, received an automated call saying it was from USAA regarding recent activity on our debit card and requesting we call them at 800-272-9440.  We have accounts with USAA, but no debit card.  I called USAA via their standard number, confirmed no questionable activity on our other accounts, and asked them to verify whether 800-272-9440 was a legitimate USAA number.  Their answer: no, it is not.  Be careful!

I got a call from this number on my cell phone.  I did not answer due to unknown caller and no message was left.  Upon looking it up here and seeing that it may be USAA's Fraud Dept, I logged into our USAA account to check it.  Sure enough, there was a notice to call their security department and there were 2 unauthorized charges on the account - turns out, there were also 3 additional declined charges, as the credit card number was being keyed in, not swiped.  If you do receive a call from this number and hold a USAA account of any type, CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT IMMEDIATELY.

Just got a call from this number, called USAA directly, sure enough my identity has been hacked, and they've got this credit card number.  If you get a call from this number, the best thing to do is to call USAA directly.  The point of the automated call is to get the USAA members to call them back.  3 charges on my account, 1 at a casino in MA and 2 more charges at a Target in CA.
