Fraud Squad posted on 19 Feb 2012, so why would you care if the number was not legitimate for them?

Keep in mind, just because a number is legit, doesn't mean the caller is!

Scammers spoof legitimate numbers to trick people into a false sense of security to answer their calls and attempt to get money or personal information from you.
This is why no one will encourage others to report of legitimate numbers, as they only confuse people into believing it is a legit call when a scammer has called them and they come here to find out about the call.

If it is a legitimate call, then anyone receiving a call would know WHY they got a call from this number, right?
So what would be a reason to come and post about it to a site designed to share information about UNKNOWN callers, such as Telemarketers, Scammers and Debt Collectors?

If your call was legit,  telling about it won't  be any comfort to those who may get a spoofed call from some scammer!

This ABSOLUTELY a fraudulent number phishing for your USAA information.   I just spoke with USAA by calling the number on my card, and the fraud department confirmed that 1-800-272-9440 is NOT one of their numbers.  I even called this number to see what it asked, and it is very suspiciously done.   Do NOT give them any information, but rather call the number on your USAA card if you get a call.

When I was called and submitted my zip code, a man came on the line and asked for my account number.  He stuttered a bit as he did so.  I hung up and called USAA.  They have no record of a fraud alert or of having called me with one.  This number is NOT LEGIT.  USAA will never ask you for your account number.  They have it already (duh).  I did find several fraudulent charges on my card, but USAA hadn't called me about them.  The same scammer who called me is probably the one running up those charges.  Once again, NOT LEGIT.

This is a LEGIT number.  It's USAA Fraud Prevention Dept.  I wasn't sure so I called the number on the back of my USAA card, and they looked up the information.  Miscellaneous unauthorized charges on my credit card for over $2,000.00

800 272 9440 is not a number associated with USAA.  When i called USAA They verified it has nothing to do with them and canceled my card.

Total scam. I called USAA and spoke at length with them. SCAM Do not respond. SCAM SCAM

Legit call from USAA fraud dept. Turns out I had some fraudulent charges on my account after using my card at a gas station. Email confirmation received after conversation.

Spoofed number.  Never answer pick up the call.  Just call USAA directly to see if the call was real or not.  Can either be a scam or not, but do not pick up.
