- USAA memberThis truly is the USAA fraud alert. It's not spam!
- Caller: USAA Fraud Alert
- USAA Texas Member800-272-9440 is USAA, I got online at the USAA website while I was talking to the USAA Rep and I verified the charges she had told me of. She then said that I was covered for the fruadulant charges made in Mexico and that she would cancel my card and have a new one issued in 7 to 10 days.
- Caller: USAA
- Pete MossI don't understand the comments about this number being a scam. It is a valid number for USAA credit card security alerts. USAA is issuing me a new credit card due to a bogus charge by some RV business in Arizona. I called them back on a different number (800-945-6759) just to be sure. Go to their web site if in doubt. Google USAA and select the first result. Use the USAA site search engine (upper right) and search on: "contact banking services". Then scroll down to the Automated Security Verification for credit cards and you will see the phone number in question listed.

- USAA MemberThis is an actual number from USAA. Go on their website, and click security center, scroll down, and this number is indeed there. Don't delay, someone had tried using my card across country. They then cancelled my card, and are issuing new ones.
- Caller: USAA
- Momo replies to Retired Air ForceYes, valid call. I never responded though. I called USAA directly. There was fraud and they are good at keeping me informed.
- USAA MemberYou can also have USAA send you a text asking if the charge is authorized and then text them back yes or no. As I do not answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, this makes it easier for me to respond timely to the fraud alert. Might want to call USAA or go online and set up preference for text.
- TawandaIt is the 855 numbers that you need to be aware of as scammers.
- Mo WeathersReceived call, missed it. Looked for voice mail; there was one but it contained nothing. Did computer reverse lookup on number that had called (800-272-9440) and finally found this website. Called USAA and found that our credit card had fraudulent charges. Looked at our USAA account on-line and found that we had 2 charges from Macy's #748, somewhere in Georgia (we live in the Pacific Northwest), both fraudulent. USAA cancelled our credit card and is issuing us a new one. Thanks to this website for steering me to USAA.

- USAA memberI got a call from this number and thought it might be a scam. But I called the number gor USAA that I am familiar with and they did confirm that their fraud department tried to get in touch with me. Had 2 charges against my credit card that I did not make. You definitely want to call them back or use the number on your credit card.
- Caller: USAA
- Curt ThielI got a text message purportedly from USAA, then a call from this number. Smelled fishy.
USAA says this is Fraud. This is not a USAA phone number.
The Fraud Dept does not use automatic dialers- Caller: Fake USAA
- Kristin USAA memberJust received a call to my cell phone but most of the message was cut off. I did hear USAA in the message so I called their phone number, not the one in the message. They confirmed the number was a valid automated call from USAA asking to confirm charges on my account. Simple fraud protection. Only asked for my phone number, the last four digits on my card, and zip code and verified a charge that I had made.
- Caller: USAA
- ScooterThe phone recording said USAA as mentioned by other postings. I DO NOT HAVE USAA ACCOUNTS - so a would suggest calling a different phone number back, to be safe......
- Caller: They said USAA but ???
- It's BOTH - Real number AND a scamHundreds of posts on this and none aggregate all the info or read other posts. There are TWO issues here.
1 - The number 800-272-9440 is a REAL NUMBER on the USAA website.
2 - There are also SCAMS calling and texting from that same real phone number. Crooks have software to decoy the number they are calling from, to trick you and your caller ID. - http://liteonline.com/the-newest-scam-to-get-your-info/
Most calls could be real, but could also be scams. You have to be cautious about what you reveal and what they are asking. If it's suspicious, hang up and call the bank yourself. Below is a great short article on types of scams and simple ways to stay safe.

- Scam AlertScam Alert -- Fake Fraud Department is After Your Credit Card Code
Scammers Pose as Credit Card Fraud Department
http://www.bbb.org/council/news-events/bbb-sc ... edit-card-code/
A fraudulent fraud department? It may sound too wacky to be true, but scammers are now pretending to be from credit card companies' fraud departments. It's a trick to get you to reveal your card's security code.
How the Scam Works:
You answer the phone, and the caller says he/she is from your credit card's security department. This "fraud specialist" tells you that there's suspicious activity on your card. He makes up a bogus transaction and asks if you authorized it. When you reply that you never made the purchase, the "fraud specialist" offers to open an investigation into charge. The scammer may even give you a fake case number for reference.
Everything seems normal until the scammer asks one last question. Under the guise of verifying that the credit card is in your procession, he requests the security code on the back of your card. Don't give it to him; it's a scam!
In this particular con, identity thieves already have your information. They know your name, credit card number, phone number and address. Now, all they need is the security code on the back of your card. If you share it, you give the con artist the information he needs to wrack up charges in your name.
What To Do if a Fraudulent Fraud Department Calls:
•Don't give the caller any information about your account - even if he already knows some of the details.
•Pick up the phone. Call the customer service number on the back of your credit card. Talk to the fraud or security department and ask about the unauthorized charges the caller told you about.
•Phone numbers can deceive. Some con artists use Internet technology to disguise their area code in Caller ID systems. Although it may look like they're calling from your credit card company, they could be calling from anywhere in the world.

- DuaneI received a call this morning. Caller ID only said "Toll Free." I received an e-mail from USAA fraud alert, also, informing me to call this very number. I had made a purchase with my card and they were questioning if I had done this. It's an automated system.
- Caller: USAA
- KirkI believe it really is USAA fraud department. I got a call and my wife's phone also got a call, then I got an email. I called the number on the back of the card and they told me about an attempted use of my card in another state. They had already declined it.
- Caller: USAA Fraud Prevention
- EsquireI had attempted to make a charge on my USAA credit card and was turned down. This call was to ask me about the activity and to verify it. This was a WANTED call and I appreciate USAA's diligence. I made the charge on another credit card but will continue to use USAA, too.
