- Fraud Squad| 1 replyPart of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-800-5234- Caller: Bogus USAA Phishing Fraud
- A member of USAAIt really is the USAA Fraud Prevention. I called back, they verified it was really me, and asked about a couple of recent transactions, both of which were real. One was made to a software company overseas, followed by a local grocery store, so it probably triggered on the disparity. Glad they asked.
- Caller: USAA Fraud Prevention
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- A member of USAA replies to Fraud SquadNot bogus, not phishing, it really is USAA Fraud Prevention, at least in this case. No doubt about a lot of phishing out there, and good to be very careful, but this number is legit.
- Another USAA memberI never respond to unsolicited/unknown numbers. I called USAA direct. In my case it was, in fact, a call alerting me of a charge that was faudulent and already declined. I looked at my account online before I called them and did not see anything unusual. But I called anyway. So the above advice is good.
1. Don't fall for phishing scams
2. Call USAA directly
Glad I did.- Caller: USAA
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- USAA Member LarryThe call is legitimate, so don't believe those posts that say it's a phishing scam. To verify it, just go to your USAA account online. In your credit card account, you will see a warning, in red letters, telling you their is a security issue with your account with a phone number to call. In my case there was an unauthorized overseas charge. Thanks to all of you who posted and convinced me to check my account. I was discounting it as a scam when i saw TOLL FREE ACCOUNT.
- Caller: USAA Fraud Department

- usaa user replies to StaceyW| 4 replies1-800-272-9440 is NOT A USAA number and the above message and many of the other entries below are from liars who are scheming to defraud people. call the number on your usaa credit card if you have questions about your account.
- DONT_TRUST_ME replies to usaa userDon't trust me. Don't trust anyone on this board. Check for yourself!
Call USAA directly!!!
I did and found that it was indeed initiated by USAA Fraud Prevention. But DON'T TRUST ME with advice about YOUR financial security. CHECK FOR YOURSELF. It takes 2 minutes to call them directly. - DON'T TRUST ME replies to StaceyWDON'T TRUST ME with advice about your financial security. Don't trust anyone on these boards for that matter!
Call USAA directly! It takes 2 minutes to flip over your credit card and call the bank.
There are people swearing that it's a scam and there are people swearing that it's legitimate - and it's not helpful. This is a serious issue, take the time to call your bank.
I did and found out it was indeed a legitimate call from USAA - but again, don't trust me. Just call them directly! - USAA Member AudreaReceived three calls from this number, called the number on my account and was transferred to their Credit Fraud section, there was also a urgent message posted on my online account to contact them. They were questining two purchases on my account from the same company, in the same amount. They froze my account. I acknowledged making one purchase in the questionable amount. They denied the second charge and unfroze my account.
Thank you USAA for looking out for me and my money.- Caller: USAA Fraud Department
- MSUSAA indeed - thanks.

- ykk replies to usaa userI got two calls from this number, called USAA directly, then call this number, then I suspected that this is not the fraud dept number, checked here, call USAA again, they could not verify this number but checked my conversation records with their representives, so it seems like this is a fraud dept number.
HOWEVER, with all the advance tecniques out there, any one could prerecord the auto voice system messages to fool others to get their identity information (watch how they do it -- http://www.wimp.com/goodsamaritan/) , so don't trust any one and call USAA directly, they could transfer you to the fraud dept!! - MBThis is USAA's fraud department.
- USAA Member KenGot this automated 800-number call 8-30-2012 identifying itself as USAA and was alerting me about suspicious activity. Ignored it and listened to voicemail. Double-checked my USAA card inquiry phone number posted on rear and number did not match. Logged on to my account on internet and saw no suspicious activity. Is it phishing? I don't know but this is the 1st time USAA has ever used an automated call. Every other experience has been a real person. I won't return call using this 800 number as anyone can say they're someone or business they're not.
- Caller: said USAA
- JamesThe 800 number for USAA is (800) 531-8722. Also USAA doesn't ask for your credit card number, they ask for your USAA number.
If you're worried, call USAA directly at the number above. Don't tell these scumbags anything.
USAA has several ways to confirm your identity without asking for the security code on your credit card.- Caller: Phishing Scam
- ABBAIt is USAA's Fraud Department. Call them back by using the 1-800 number on the back of your credit card.
- Caller: USAA
- USAA MemberI never call numbers in emails - call the USAA phone number direct from their website (www.usaa.com) or the back of your credit card - be smart, be safe.
- Caller: USAA
- Mary CohenRecording of USAA credit card department wanting to verify use of my USAA credit card. This occurred on the same day I received a flagrantly fraudulent email from a false USAA with bad attachment saying my account had been deactivated. Disturbing that my name and type of credit card and phone number are available to this person.
- Caller: Fake USAA
- HHUNI received a call on my cell phone from this number and ignored it as I didn't know who it was. When I got home I had 6 calls from this same number on my home phone. So I decided to look up the number online. I was directed to this site where I saw it was USAA fraud dept. People on here are saying it's a scam. I tell you IT IS NOT!!!! I was skeptical at first after seeing people claim it might be a scam. Since USAA notifies its members of scams on their website's main page, I decided to log onto my USAA account online and I didn't see any warnings of scam callers. However, I clicked on my credit card account and I had a notice to call USAA immediately regarding the security of my account. I also received an email from them. So I called a different fraud number (800-9456795) that was listed on my account online. Apparently, I had made a purchase that day that was suspect and triggered a red flag and they wanted to confirm if the purchase was mine. It was not a fraudulant purchase, but if it had been USAA was on top of it. DON'T IGNORE THIS CALL!! They are calling you for a reason!
