- NanaBearI received a call from this number about half an hour ago. I allowed Google to screen the call. They messaged that they were from USAA Fraud Department - and there were questionable transactions that I needed to call them back at 800-272-9440. I called an actual number from USAA and they DO NOT use 800-272-9440. I think the call was from some group that steals your card numbers and purchases what they can as fast as they can. I had 10 charges in one day to places like Nordstrom, Game Stop and Pizza places in Indiana and Illinois. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK, call USAA directly or use the phone number on the back of your card.
- Caller: Wasn't USAA FRAUD Dept

- kimian111This number is in fact USAA Fraud Department. I read the report above that said it was not USAA, so I hung up and called them myself. I had the agent call this number (800) 272-9440, she put me on hold (and you can tell it's really USAA when they put you on hold because their intentionally obnoxious U-S-A-A song blares in your ears. That is another authentication measure taken by companies... their unmistakable hold music. Anyway, she came back on and said, YES, this is our automated fraud dept. number, and the notes here say that you answered this morning and hung up. This was exactly right. Confirmed and authenticated, this number is USAAFraudDept, which it should read on your smartphone when they call as the caller ID. This doesn't keep fraudsters from spoofing the number, but how likely are fraudsters to have access to your latest transactions?
- Caller: USAA Fraud Dept (verified)
- Call type: Valid
- klein297Saw missed call on phone. 800-272-9440 .Googled number and came to this site.
Called USAA number on card and they confirmed there was a fraud attempt on my card.
Number is legit.- Caller: USAA

- Charles MThis was a recording that stated it was from USAA fraud protection, and that I needed to call to verify some recent transactions.

- DJS Mesa AZUsAA fraud dept, even left a message. I don't have that charge card so new it was a scam

- BLUF| 1 replyLeft msg on husband's cell stating they were USAA fraud department. Instead of calling that number, I called USAA directly and discussed charges. The USAA person thought the number was legit. However, if you call 800-272-9440, they ask for your phone number and the last 4 digits on your account. This is not how USAA asks for identification; and they could not provide any other way of providing proof of their legitimacy. It is either a scam, or the USAA fraud prevention has bad practices.
- Caller: Probably not USAA fraud prevention
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- BLUF replies to BLUFI have written confirmation from USAA through the USAA website/app that this is the USAA Fraud Prevention number. The number does seem like phishing because the automated message asks your telephone number and the last four of your Credit card. The responder encouraged me to call USAA directly, which I already had.
- WBarkey· We have accounts with USAA, but no debit card. I called USAA via their standard number, confirmed no questionable activity on our other accounts, and asked them to verify whether 800-272-9440 was a legitimate USAA number. Their answer: no, it is not. Be careful!

- chuckValid fraud alert.
- Caller: USAA
- Call type: Valid
- AlCalled USAA and spoke to the fraud prevention department and they had no record of the two calls I received and did not recognize the number. The automated call asks for your zip code, which you should NEVER disclose to a random caller, or your PIN, or the last 4 digits of your card. Call USAA.

- KateUSAAFRAUDDEPT......800-272-9440. Looked suspicious to me so I did not answer. They left no message. I called USAA using the number on the back of the credit card. There was no problem with my account and no one had tried contacting me. I gave them the number and their fraud dept. was going to check on it.

- Hot Dog replies to Annoyed as well| 1 replyYep, on a Sunday night...nobody works on Sunday night and for that matter, the woke don't get decent employment. Tomorrow....
- BigA replies to Hot DogReally? So the Police, Fire Department, Paramedics, Hospitals/Doctors/Nurses, FBI, The various branches of the Military, and numerous other agencies, Federal, State, Local, plus places like McDonald's, Dunkin Doughnuts, Convenience stores all close up Sunday night? Obviously you are not "woke" because that would require you to be intelligent and I would be willing to bet that no one has ever accused you of that and told the truth. Take your political stupidity somewhere else. You know that site that is about to go out of business because once again your "God" has not paid his bills.
- csDon't respond to this - way too suspect. Call USAA Directly at 18005318722 - they want you to verify a pin on your phone which gives them access to your account - DON'T DO IT - it looks like a legit call and they ask some of the right questions...I've been with USAA for 30 plus years - nope, not giving up a code and not responding to unsolicited b.s. ALWAYS HANG UP AND YOU INITIATE THE CALL TO USAA AT A NUMBER YOU KNOW.
