- JRVI got a call from this number, but the message left on my answering machine only asked (in Spanish) to "press 2 for Spanish" and that was all, so I was inclined to ignore the call and block the number. But I read here that the number was from CitiBank, so I logged-in to my on-line account to verify.
This is a legit call from CitiBank Fraud Prevention Department.
I logged-in to my on-line account and had a warning message requesting that I call their Fraud Prevention Department right away. I called the number on the back of my card.
The gentleman who took my call verified that this number IS for their Fraud Prevention Department
- They caught TWO fraudulent charges on my credit card.
I had them dispute both charges and canceled that credit card number. I will get a new card next week.
Not all "TOLL FREE CALLS" are scam callers.- Caller: CitiBank Fraud Department
- donnathis number has been calling multiple times a day for days now......hangs up, even when i have answered....on two occasions i have spoken to someone who claims to be calling me on behalf of citicards for children's place (I have neither a citicard nor a childrens place card........i do not even know where there is a children's place)...then they ask me what number i am at (even thought THEY called ME), and want info....this goes agaisnst everything we are told about giving info over the phone.......they claim i am deliquent on my childrens place acct (which id o not have) and it will go on my credit report if i do not help them out (ie, give them info)....gave no info, a piece of my mind, and accessed my annual free credit report to be sure, anbd lo and behold, my credit report shows no account with childrens place linked to me, so i truly believe this is a scam....i will not be giving them info, but really want these callls to stop
- DavidThis is a real phone number for Citi Cards as of today June 29, 2011. The number was on my cell and did NOT ask me to return their call. Instead, they asked that I call the phone number provided on the sticker attached to a replacement credit card they had sent me (had gotten on Friday and ignored it until now).
The phones call increase with frequency because I had recurring charges still going on my old account and had to activate the new card and switch them over.
The callers at this number did not want any information from me. They kindly asked me call the number on my new card.- Caller: Citi Cards
- scotty| 1 replyPEOPLE THIS IS LEGIT! i didnt answer the phone or get a meggase, but as soon as i called the nuber on the back of my citi card- sure enough there were some charges I didnt make being done on online - they had not allowed those charges to go thru and the account was closd and new card comming express mail:)
- Caller: citi early fraud dept
- CaileyIt's definitely Citibank fraud detection. If you don't believe it, contact them and they will talk to you without you sharing the card number. Give your name and they will confirm by calling you back and relating all the charges on your card by date to see if you really have the card in your possession. Ignore them and your card will be canceled.
- TonyI doubt it's legit. I bought a cell phone a few months ago and only used the number, for maybe 5 Craigs List job applications. And then I changed the number I was using. I have noticed when applying for jobs on that site. Mostly they are "'Info gathering Scams" Including I suspect thats also how a collection agency got my cell number.... This company either got my number from C.L. or someone used a false number/they have old info.

- Nancy Ullman| 1 replyGot a call from this number. I couldn't understand what the automated voice was saying, so I called the Citibank number on the back of my card. Citibank check both of my cards and said there was no unusual activity on my credit card and no calls were made on their behalf. The agent I spoke with believed it was a scam.
- Caller: Citibank Fraud Dept
- Frank replies to Nancy UllmanThis is a total scam 100% fraud. I called Citi and there were no charges of any kind on my card since my last payment, and they told me it was a scam. Then filed a complaint with my state's attorney general, and then on the FBI's fraud web site. Got a call today (a few days after filling my complaint) from the FBI, and they wanting more info. These people are thieves nothing but scummy worthless trash.
- Smart Consumer replies to Sam| 23 repliesIt is NOT Citibank, it is a phishing scamm. If you actually call the number on the back of your credit card they'll verify that fact.
This number is NOT registered to Citibank. You can find a list of the many scams using this number on the following site:
http://800-386-6624.phonemoz.com/ - SluggoYou are all incorrect. I returned the call and was offered the opportunity to buy Barbra Streisand records.

- itsfridayJust got a text with the message to call the number. I called Citi and they said its legit...someone stole my card number and already charged ~$200. Have a new card on the way. It sounds like someone is using the number to scam people but this time it was legit.
- Caller: Citi
- dumasEverybody is correct!
It's possible for people to spoof the 800- number, call you, and tell you that they are from the Citi Card Fraud Department.
However, if *you* dial the 800- number, you will reach the Citi Card Fraud Department.
The automated message on my machine left a Case Number to enter after reaching the 800-number. I did that, spoke to somebody who detailed two illegitimate charges, and had them cancel the card.
I then logged into my Citicards account and verified that my account was closed.- Caller: Citi Card Fraud Department
- Josh replies to SamIts really citi bank. i called the number on the back of my card this afternoon. its citi bank fraud protection. someone got ahold of my cc # and tried making 3 online purchases totaling 930 dollars. Thank you citi bank for calling me!
- EricI received a text message from Citi telling me to call this number. I had recently used my card at three different places and they wanted to verify that I had my card and authorized the charges, which their computer read off to me. This is a legit call or text in my case. But just because it shows up on caller ID, doesn't mean it is legit. People have ways to make caller ID info show up the way they want, so regardless of what Caller ID says, you still should initiate the call before giving anything personal to someone.
- Caller: Citi
- Call type: Text message
- AmyThis IS legit. I've been ignoring these calls for weeks because I did get a text that was a scam shortly before the calls started. A former employer contacted me and said the fraud calls were being made to them as well so I called the official number on the back of my CitiBank card. I was connected to their fraud department who verified that unauthorized purchases had been made on my account. My account has been closed and a new card is in the mail.
I agree with the others here - Always call the official number on the reverse of your card if you're concerned. The credit card company can verify from there whether the messages are legit. I'm so glad I called.- Caller: CitiBank

Got a call from them, don't have a citi account, never did. They got my name right in the voicemail though and my phone number too.
Visit your local branch and talk to a teller about your card. You could call the back of your card too of course.
By the way it's very possible that the vast majority of these "legit" posters are the scammers themselves, even the ones telling you to check the back of your card if you're not sure. It's a strategy to build legitamacy in their words to lull you into not bothering to check at all.
Please, just visit your branch. Face time trumps internet anyday, especially when money is on the line.- Caller: Citicard Fraud Dept
- jkkhIT IS a Citi Bank number... There was a fraudulant charge made on my card in question and I just got off the phone with them. I was suspicious and started by calling the number on the back of my credit card...NOT the number left on my answering machine. I confirmed the information with the representative and YES it IS THEIR Fraud DEPT... They refused a suspicious charge on one of my cards an I immediately agreed to cancel the card. The charge was made across the country for over a $100.00
Thank you, Citi Bank- Caller: 800-386-6624
- AmesDude| 1 replyI got a similar message as the other posters. To check the situation I called the number on the back of my citi credit card (I recommend to use this number and no other number you are getting via electronic media, because this number is your official confirmed contact number). And, there was realy fraudulent activity on my account.
Fazit: respond on the text message but through confirmed paths. - JimI just called the number on my card, which was correctly referenced in the message that was left. It was Citi Bank checking on some charges my wife did make today. I did not call this number due to the mixed reviews I found here and elsewhere, but at least this time it was real and correct.

- Terry Macklin| 1 replyYes, this caller ID *DOES* match with a genuine Citibank Fraud Early-Warning department. HOWEVER, be aware that this automated system will either do one of two things
(1) assuming you DO pick-up the phone before it goes to voicemail, you will *ONLY* be asked to furnish your 5-digit billing zip code...again, you will *NOT* be required to furnish your credit card number, name, date of birth, social security number, or any other compromising information; once you enter your zip-code, you will be presented with 3 suspicious transactions whereby you'll be asked if they are or are not valid...that's it. Alternatively,
(2) if the call does go to voicemail, the message will furnish you with a numeric "access number" as well as a call-back number of (800) 386-6624; once you call-in, you simply enter the "Access Number" left in the message as well as your billing zip-code (again, that is the ONLY personal info required...no account number, social security number, etc.). Just like the first option above, you'll be prompted to verify the last three suspicious charges.
---
If anything other than the above takes place, I'd highly suggest you hang-up the phone and call the main customer service number on the back of your card and ask to speak to the fraud department about a suspicious phone call you received. Please remember that just because a caller ID displays a given number does NOT necessarily mean it is in fact originating from that number (i.e., Caller ID spoofing is not that challenging a feat).- Caller: Citibank Fraud Early Warning Department
